History

Established in 1932.

Fort Collins Nursery began in 1932 as Kinghorn Nursery, owned and operated by Glen Kinghorn. The name was changed to Fort Collins Nursery in 1940, when Clayton Watkins, first president of the Colorado Nurseryman’s Association, purchased the nursery. Al Ekblad purchased Fort Collins Nursery in 1946 and retained ownership, along with his partner Marvin Wood, until 1976. Two employees of the nursery, Gary Eastman and Gary Epstein bought the nursery at that time. Fort Collins Nursery has been at its present location on Mulberry since 1955, with the wholesale division opening at its North Shields location in 1987. Retail and wholesale divided into two separate companies in 2005. The retail half of this division continues under the name, Fort Collins Nursery. Gary Eastman retired in 2010, passing the nursery to his son, Jesse Eastman.
