A tiny town but a great restaurant. Eclectic menu with multiple great salads, sandwiches, and homemade desserts. Definitely exceeded my expectations.

The Tasters visited R’z Café & Catering on Weds, September 23, 2015 for a very memorable tasting event. Owner Candy Yancey is young, energetic and dedicated to offering her cliental an inspired culinary experience in a laid back style. Ms Yancey has transformed this once industrial warehouse into an American food restaurant and catering company. The top floor of the building which was at one time a printing company is now decorated in a charming and eclectic, yet industrial style that makes for a comfortable atmosphere for her family focused café. The Tasters were offered a special menu for our event which hi-lighted many of the regular R’z menu items but also offered some unique menu items.
The Starters Menu had eight items to indulge in including Butternut Squash Soup and the popular Seafood Chowder… which was creamy and filled with large chunks of seafood. The salads were all large, fresh and beautiful! They were served with housed made dressings. We were a large group of 40 people so all the entrees on the Tasters menu were ordered… and all very good. The favorites were the Gaucho Steak with Chimichurri sauce served with smashed potatoes and grilled squash. All the meats at R’z Café are from Dewig Meats of Haubstadt and awesome. The Chimichurri sauce is a green herb sauce made with vinegar and olive oil with lots of chopped fresh parsley, thyme, cilantro, basil and more. It adds a lovely freshness and zing to grilled meats. Luck for you the Chicken Florentine Stack is on the regular menu because it is wonderful(one Taster orders it every time he is there.) This stack of deliciousness starts with a sautéed chicken breast, garlic, spinach and tomatoes all deglazed in white wine and served over whipped potatoes. The 14 oz Smoked Grilled Pork Chop is also on the regular menu. The chop is juice and the right balance of sweet and savory with a bourbon glaze. You must have the Low County Shrimp and Grits because no matter where you are from this is going to feel like comfort food. The grits are creamy and the shrimp was spicy and cooked perfectly with a nice crunch to the bite. R’z Café and Catering offers a full service bar so finding the perfect libation to match you meal is easy. Sweet Endings… the dessert menu, once again one of each was ordered. Peanut Butter Pie, Lemoncello Cake, Italian Cream Cake(it looked eight inches high) Key Lime Pie, Bread Pudding(the best in the world, ok we might need more research on that claim) Death by Chocolate, and Caramel Apple Cheesecake. These are all made in house and worthy of the drive to Fort Branch alone. It is clear that Candy Yancey and the staff at R’z Café and Catering love what they do. Go soon and feel the love!!! The Tasters have their own rating system, we rate on atmosphere, food, drinks, service, and over all experience. We gave R’z Café and Catering a 24.5 out of 25 possible points. Just got back from lunch after hearing Mom talk about this place for the past year and how much work went into opening the business. We went towards the end of their serving time for lunch so the service was as expected, and the ambiance was very welcoming, but I have to say I was not impressed with the meal speaking of the pork tenderloin sandwich, as was suggested by the waitress. I’ve been visiting for the past week and have to admit I’ve ordered the pork tenderloin four times since pork is not as good as in California, where I live now. It is offered both breaded and grilled and I chose grilled and it came very dry since it was such a thinly cut piece and way over cooked. I did enjoy the sweet potato fries that was cooked perfectly. When the waitress came to ask if everything was ok she didn’t give me time to respond before she asked if we needed more ice tea. I have to say out of the four orders of pork tenderloin I’ve ordered in the past week: Dick Clarks, Hornets Nest, R’z, Amity’s in Fort Branch got an A and the R’z received a C– between all the places!
