Cafeteria/​DFAC Review
Although I never utilize any mess hall my second unit has runners every morning for soldiers
who man the gate as part of Staff Duty to run and grab food for these soldiers that must either utilize it or pay out of pocket as I do.
I dropped by after discovering most mess hall’s were closed for the weekend and even some aren’t open for dinner certain days which is a shock coming from a place that’s always open and should maintain normal operating hours for those who do utilize it.
The experience of simply going there to grab food for hungry soldiers reminded me again why I never use one and confirmed my reasoning on the basis of not only personal but political reasons.
I ran over there quickly with the last bit instructions being that we wore Staff Duty shoulder patches we could simply walk in and out with the food needed. In fact we actually need SSN’s which we did not have so it was a mess going back and forth explaining the purpose of what I was there for and why it seemed like they never had other soldiers do this additional duty or more likely they were aggravated I was there in the first place as it was obvious the entire time. The server wasn’t up to serving and I made myself clear to fix it however they wanted but kept repeating the question over and over. The food ironically still looks the same, grotesque.
From the start I knew they were upset I ran in almost last minute. If I’d known it would have been the same service as usual from a few years ago when I was once a PFC I would have immediately paid out of pocket for these soldiers to have decent food. The one thing that didn’t
make sense was the fact that the half the food was considered cafeteria and the other half was mess hall. Meaning if you grabbed certain items being a meal card holder you could be charged but the food was all the same as any other ‘DFAC.’ I believe this is to attract people all the way just because its convenient to pay for ‘DFAC’ food when your holdover in the hospital.
I strongly encourage meal card holders to budget. It will save you much trouble if you can build a tracker and be able to depict where your money goes. Narrow down how much you eat and where outside the mess hall to determine how much it costs you. This is also helpful when it comes to paying your usual bills and knowing more likely what you have left over to put into a savings account every month.
This will also go far for your health because the food is not well processed and most of it is unhealthy to begin with. Save your gas and your time, utilize the fridge and microwave given to you or stove if your fortunate to have any of these items within your barracks. Believe me it’s worth it. You can gather greater responsibility of your self and help to manage solutions when in a situation or something arises. If any just use the mess hall as a backup if you really cant avoid going broke every month or something other.
Next time I receive this duty I will definitely pay out of pocket to get soldiers something on post that’s decent and more likely every time because they deserve better than that.

Here are the names of two incompetent quacks: WAMCs former «Chief of Oncology/​Hematology,» Thomas J. Richard (he pronounces it Rish-​ard), and his sarcastic second-​in-​charge flunky, Pranav D. Patel. It would seem these two guys should know something about cancer, right? My (late) husband’s condition was plain enough to smack you both in your stupid faces. Yet you dismissed him! You dismissed him. He could have lived had he gotten timely, adequate care or a referral to a «real» oncologist. My husband was a beautiful person and a true hero. But you two, you are just ignorant, negligent failures. People need to know this.

Hah the fact that there are alot of people that visit the pharmacy, I left this place an hour after arriving while in uniform. Come back 2 hours later and see some of the same people that were here when I left says alot. Not to mention the line for pick is another half hour to 45 mins of waiting.

It’s a shame that this place has such bad reviews. I delivered my daughter at this hospital visited the ER twice within the week for myself and my daughter and both experiences were above average. Maybe I see things differently being a veteran but the doctors — medics all have been excellent. I wish i could personally shout you guys out but thank you so much for helping me and my family. You get a perfect rating.

I haven’t been here yet. I’m new to military life and their hospital system, tried to make an appointment but picked wrong number on phone directory. Instead of a redirection or «you have wrong number» this lady chewed me out, like big time, for a good 5 – 10 minutes. Wow. I would of taken a rude «wrong number comment», but I think she wasted her and my time so she can s*it talk me on the phone. When she hung up on me, I was taken aback… «Wait… Aren’t I the patient?» Haha. Still haven’t made an appointment cause this hospital’s system is weird. Been a week.

I finally saw a dr LITERALLY 6 hrs after being there. Did ct scan, ultrasound, and xray and the ER dr determined it was my gallbladder and it had to be removed so I was admitted. But before they could operate on me the OB drs came to the rescue. NOTHING was wrong with my gallbladder… my problems came from an undetected issue during my pregnancy (which ended a few days before this ER trip).
The fact that they were willing and ready to take out a perfectly good organ baffles me. They didnt see anything on the scans to say it was the real issue but bc I had pain in that area they ASSUMED it was my gallbladder. –_​_​_​–
Anywho after a week stay I was able to go home. The staff in the Mother/​baby unit were cool, but the ER… smh.

Early last week we took our 2 year old son to the ER at Womack because he had a fever that spiked at 102.5. Let me enlighten you on my experience, the waiting room was chaos. There was a baby throwing up all over his mother, they were getting no help or attention from a nurse or anyone else. There were people in wheel chairs litterally everywhere, it wold probably be considered a fire hazard. There was not a single seat open in the er waiting room. There were numerous people standing and yet, no one seemed to be getting called back. After we waited for 5 hours we finally got called back so he could see the doctor. The doctor came in and rushed us out, basically. He looked in my son’s ears, nose, and throat and says he’s got an upper respiratory infection and he would send in meds. Well, all he «sent in» for was motrin. He didn’t take blood to get his white count to see if he actually has an infection or virus. The doctor just guessed as to what was wrong so he could rush us out of there. So, here it is a week later and my son is now sicker. I’m having to take him back to the doctor again to hopefully get some antibiotics assuming that’s what he should have had a week ago. I’ve never had such a bad experience in any er, ever. I will never be returning to the Womack ER.

Womack is an efficiently run hospital.
All of the professionals that I received care from here were excellent.
The OB/​GYN clinic surprised me the most. Despite what I had heard, the clerks, nurses and midwives/​doctors have been nothing but professional, excellent and caring. They are patient and answer all my questions without being condescending. Totally not what I expected.
If you’re expecting to get personalized care during a pregnancy then you’re in for a rude awakening. Be prepared to see a different doctor or midwife every time you come in for an appointment. The hospital does offer a program called centering which groups a cohort of pregnant women together and in this program you can see the same care provider. I opted out. The thought of meeting with a handful of pregnant women periodically did not sound like a good time to me.
The lab is pretty good. The waiting times are minimal and the technicians are very good.
The parking situation is usually not the best but it’s not so terrible. Pretty standard for a military hospital and comparable to the one at Tripler in Hawaii.
I’m looking forward to having a positive experience when I have my baby girl here in May. :)

The appointments so far are good with time, my doctor is very compassionate and she even calls me if she has and news or questions, never have I ever had the doctor call! Usually the nurse calls with all the other doctors I’ve seen. It’s a little tricky to make appointments if you’re new to tricare prime and mtf care. I’m so happy I switched to prime! Dr Roberts at Family Medicine really cares for her patients. Thank you Womack for hiring the best.

This hospital is a joke… Expect to wait at least 6 hours even when it is not crowded. The doctors, nurses and everybody else working there are not nice at all very disrespectful towards the patients. It is unbelievable…

They are always busy but they try to provide good service given the volume of people coming in.
