Cliff House of Fort Bragg

Fantastic! Triple filet mignon was delicious, and we had the mushroom ravioli (yum) and ginger sea bass. Service was great (Eric), food worth every penny. Would come back again. Must be new chef compared to past reviews.

I like this place especially the New York steak early bird dinner.
It appears to be out of business, Dagnabit.
One of the better places to eat in Fort Bragg :-(. It’s not Delmonicos but what do you want for 15 bucks which includes wine?

We were here on vacation and saw this place from our hotel and decided to give it a shot. We checked in and got the trio of filet appetizer for free. This was the start of a very delicious meal. My boyfriend got clam chowder which had amazing fresh clams in it. He ordered the salmon oscar and I ordered the ribeye, they were both totally amazing. The salmon was fresh and perfectly cooked. My ribeye was cooked to the right temperature and had a good crust with amazing sauce. We both had mash potatoes and asparagus in a garlic butter sauce. Amazing! We ate it all so quickly we didn’t take pictures.
Sad thing is this weekend was the last open as they are closing, with the hopes of re-​opening soon. I hope they do because we will be back if they are.

We were visiting Fort Bragg on 12÷28÷14 and saw this place as we drove back from the Skunk Train to our hotel. It has a great location, right on a cliff overlooking the ocean! Our dinners were both very tasty! We started off with the clam chowder and I had the cod dinner and my husband had the prime rib. We would definitely eat here again!

Food is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! At least the chef we had last night prepared our dishes beyond perfect. 11 stars. I had the linguine and prawns my man wanted stuffed chicken breast but they were out so he tried Salmon Oscar that too impeccable ! Wait staff on the ball, greeter lady not too friendly but did her job. She seemed sad or spaced out could have been on her 10^th hour either way but was not rude by any means. Every person who worked here seemed friendly and concerned if you were satisfied. Our server Will did a fantastic job. Thank you! Ambience here is nice, they had little white lights everywhere which I’m guessing were for Christmas but they really should leave them up all year as the restaurant is clearly very old and has outdated style so the lights would add pizazz ! Ha ha. The main lights around the room are SO VERY BRIGHT they are like stadium spot lights. It may behoove them to replace with a low light to enhance the ambiance and not highlight the old green appearance and perhaps add tiny lights down the sides of the few stair cases. Just a thought to make it even greater! We had a great experience here overall and was very pleased to say the least! Oh lastly, we checked in on Unilocal and to our surprise an offer was granted for their filet mignon trio FREE! A MUST try regardless if free or not, was prepared to perfection and enjoyed thoroughly! Thank you to the entire staff who made our visit so enjoyable, including the English couple with 2 hilarious kids seated besides us!

BEST steak ever! Seriously the cook needs a blue ribbon! Came here two nights in a row for the Toast the Coast! And the service SPECTACULAR! If I was here another night I think I’d come back for a third night! Yes it’s that good!!!

This place is open for lunch. we went on a sunday. The menu also provides breakfast if ordered before 2 pm. Good menu selection. We ordered portobello sandwich, chicken sandwich (served with side salad), and fish and chips (large portion), fries were crispy and thin. We would definitely go back again. service was excellent. During the holiday, table setting included cute nutcrackers.

Unbelievable some of the bad reviews I’ve read on here! You have to be some kinda hard to please butthole if you were TOTALLY unpleased here! Everything was wonderful for us! Food, atmosphere, and staff! We started with HOT bread and the 3 meat trio which was FREE if u check-​in from Unilocal.It was very delicious! Also had fried shrimp, king crab legs, and a FREE desert because we were celebrating our anniversary. You can also receive a free appetizer if you stay at the North Cliff hotel which I HIGHLY recommend if your looking for a nice place to stay.
Only thing I can say bad is for $ 15 they only give you one crab cake (passed on that), and they also could probably update the décor.

The service was awful and the food that we had it was not fresh and not seasoned at all… I would never come back here again.

First off. .. great view of the harbor. Really is a pretty sight.
I had this salmon and crab dish, and when it FINALLY got to me, I couldn’t taste the crab at all, was very bland. The fish was good.
The service was extremely slow, with no one checking in to refill drinks, and I waited too long to get the darn check. Going back is not likely.

We went there, and we were in the mood to eat burgers, so the server took us to the side where it have a view and there was nobody except 1 table and the hall restaurant was empty.
So we sit there and they brought us water, and then we ordered Burgers, the server took our order and left, then there is another guy came and told us: We are sorry we don’t serve burger eaters in this side of the restaurant, you should go to the bar !!
Actually we were shocked ! whats wrong with burgers eaters ?! and why can’t you just bring us our plates here to our table here? you can’t tell the customer to sit in a specific place to have your burgers !!
No !! we are sorry burger eaters in the bar should sit .
I don’t know why they have this kind of rule but its stupid as fuck !!

The King Salmon dish was very good and the server, Jorge was very professional.
French apple tart was delicious. Also vine prices are decent. I recomend this restaurant.

It’s a fairly calm Wednesday early evening, two hours before sunset. By all definitions not a critically busy time. Yet everything takes forever: taking the order. Refilling water happens only after numerous pokes. It’s half an hour later, I have written this text so far, asked for more water three times, and still no trace of our food.
Eventually the food arrived. The filet mignion did taste like beef albeit not quite the right type. Wife’s halibut allegedly didn’t taste like halibut at all, and she knows her fish. All was a bit on the oily side.
All in all, a pretty bad deal for the price.

This place has delicious food and we had the best waiter. Alfonso was superb and Jesus was very helpful too. Every course of the meal was great. We had the crab cake, salmon and halibut and ended the meal with the Cliff House triple layer chocolate dessert and coffee. Definitely recommend everything!

While on vacation, I took my wife here for her Birthday Dinner. She had a tough time deciding what to get, but finally choose the Halibut. She was very happy with her choice and enjoyed it. I went with the Rib-​Eye. It was nice and tender. The gorgonzola topping was a bit strong, but that could just be my taste buds. Scrape off a little and all was good.
We went in on a Saturday night without any reservations, and was seated promptly. Nice view of the river and ocean, and as the sun dropped, sun shades were lowered to keep everyone from squinting. Soon as was time, the shades were raised again for a beautiful view.
Lots of staff visited us, filling our glasses and bread basket. Never intrusive, but just right.
We did not order any extras (drinks, dessert, appetizers, etc.), so our bill was very reasonable for a very nice dinner.

The Cliff House or Fort Bragg California is a great find for the traveler.
While taking a break from the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens about ½ mile south or so from Fort Bragg on the California ocean road we found the Cliff House on a cliff near the middle of town, at the inlet into the Fort Bragg harbor. Marvelous views of the inlet and Pacific ocean from many of the tables. The restaurant is slightly upscale for Fort Bragg but in no way discourages the tourist and casual crowd. We liked lunch so much we came back for dinner the next day and that too was great!
Definitely check the photo attached of the most tasty salad of our 3 month vacation in 2013. I believe the ingredients were tomato, spinach, bacon bits, cheese, hard boiled egg and special house bacon salad dressing. Holy cow was this an eating experience from the Gods of kitchen goodies! The next day when we came back for dinner I immediately ordered this salad for my side of the table. Über Yum!
So the restaurant is certainly able to host a lot of folks for lunch and dinner, much or most of the main dinning room is like a theater stepped seating for watching the beautiful Pacific ocean. Fully stocked bar for any drinking concoction, including of course wines and beers. Excellent service and serving staff, all over their customers. When your enjoying a long road vacation running into a restaurant of this caliber is like hitting an oasis inside an oasis. Also the menu doesn’t overdo the whole California foodie talking points as so many other California places seem to have to convey.
I had the seaside catch de jure with rice and squash veggies etc. a bowl of chowder and a few tastes of the wife’s super spinach salad. (again see attached salad picture) Also had some local ’ blue star ’ brew. She had a glass of wine, that salad, french dip and a side of fries. Well that was lunch. Came back the next evening for that salad again, steaks and similar sides and yes, another beer for me and bottled water for her. Fantastic.
Do treat yourself to a travel break here in Fort Bragg. A taste of Nirvana on the California sea coast. (We hit the Botanical gardens at the height of Azalea blooms and what a spectacular nature presentation plus the beauty of other parts in the gardens here on the Pacific ocean.)

Despite the poor Unilocal rating we went here for dinner anyway because it was so close to our hotel. Glad we gave it a chance because it was actually pretty good! I’m a harsh judge too but despite minor flaws of slightly under and over cooking, the flavors were there and the service was great.
We were able to get the filet mignon trio from the Unilocal check in and what a nice freebie. Our server was so nice about it too because it’s always a little awkward showing your phone for free food. One piece of the trio was undercooked but we ate that piece of raw meat anyway. I had the potato crusted halibut and it was a huge portion. It was seasoned well and had a really delicious crispy crust. The fish was a tad overcooked though. The bf got the lobster risotto which was very creamy and decadent but again, the lobster pieces were overcooked. We would’ve been happy paying the same price for half the portion size if everything was cooked with care.
Overall we left happy and full.

Okay, it’s a restaraunt with a view over Noyo River and the ocean, and that’s nice. Linen tablecloths — covered with white paper which tends to curl up, which completely annoyed my Aspberger’s uncle (he’s 86, and an extremely conservative Fox News Republican)… but other than that, totally on-​point for expected service and tastes. Kinda expensive. Kinda busy on Saturday evenings.
We had a «Get Your Appetizer For Free If You Stay At This Motel’ deal, but our server forgot and charged us for it. In his defense, he was slammed while we were in there. and we were in a hurry and didn’t check the bill until after we got home. On the plus side, the bookkeeper was completely amenable and immediately gave us a credit card credit when I called in the next week. Once that actually HITS my credit card, I’ll bump this up to 4 stars [four days and waiting, remember, bookkeeper, Table of 4, Saturday night…].
We paid $ 110 for the four of us for the meal, and that was basically expected, so no surprises here. I would have enjoyed it MORE if I wasn’t with my Aspberger’s uncle — but that is not the fault of the restaraunt. The salmon and crab tasted great and was cooked right, and my sister’s shrimp pasta plate was awesome (I personally love garlic), and, Yes, I got tastes all around. (It’s good to be the one with the salad…)
This restaraunt is best enjoyed if you’ve got a lot of time, sit down where you can see the ocean on the ‘bottom’ row of tables, and are with someone who provides good conversation. Otherwise, there is better food elsewhere for a lower price elsewhere, minus linen tablecloths.

The view is nice. It’s a huge restaurant with about 4 «terraced» levels. We were there for lunch on the weekend and it wasn’t crowded.
I checked in on Unilocal and was surprised to find the restaurant had a special appetizer offer free with our meal. Unfortunately the only offer was beef and they wouldn’t substitute when I told them I was a vegetarian. I did entertain the idea of getting it and giving it to some other beef-​eating family but I don’t really want to promote meat consumption. The irony is a vegetable side dish would most likely be less expensive for them than beef unless it’s really cheap meat. Which I suspect it is.
How this restaurant gets the highest ratings in Fort Bragg/Mendocino…I don’t know! It wasn’t cheap. Lunch here was more expensive than lunch at Café Beaujolais but I suspect the type of people frequenting the Cliff House are too intimidated to go to Café Beaujolais — a true gem.
