Do Not Use This Mechanic Shop
I found a coupon on Craigslist for their engine replacement. I contacted them and set up the appointment. We selected and engine and I left the vehicle.
I was told the car was finished and «running like a dream», but they had to «do some more work» than just the engine because the their was a whole in the exhaust system, etc. When I went up there to look at the car and discuss it, the guy had already done all the work, before me okaying it, telling me, that’s what we had to do to get it running.
He (Steve) replaced the exhaust shield, the thermostat, exhaust manifold, intake gasket, and other parts to total and extra $ 628.82… He didn’t charge the coupon price and also charged $ 50 more for the used engine than was quoted.
I was not happy as I wouldn’t have put a new engine in for that price; I would have scrapped it. He told me I’d have to take it up the manager, Ali. Ali was no where to be found and apparently couldn’t return voice mails either.
I took the car home and by the time I got home it was bone dry on oil. I filled it up and took it back to talk to Ali… and again, Ali wasn’t there and it was bone dry on oil. Another tech told me to leave it overnight and he’d take a look at the leak. I came back 24 hours later and the car had not been looked at — I was told they purchase cars and replace the engines and put them on their sale lot… and that was his first priority, so I might need to leave it another day or two! Again, no calls from Ali and when I went back up there two days later, the tech looked over it with a flashlight while there and said he couldn’t find a leak… and he wasn’t authorized to do any work on it without payment or Ali’s approval.
Again, cannot find Ali… I finally took off work and started randomly appearing through the days and finally found Ali. The tech saw me coming and warned Ali, pointing at me… and Ali tried to avoid me as if I couldn’t figure out what the tech just did…
I confronted Ali on the added costs as well as the leak… Ali told me there was nothing he can do b/​c it was the initial tech’s fault and that he had been fired because he had so many complaints about overcharging. I stood bewildered for a moment and said, so you are aware he was overcharging and doing work without authorization? He said, «yes, he was fired.» And I said, so how are we going to fix this? And he said he wouldn’t because he fired the guy and that was all he was responsible for and I could go hunt that guy down and make him fix it since he lied/didn’t fix it right. He refused to have his other guys fix the car and left me with a bill of $ 2078.82 when I was quoted $ 1450 ($ 600 labor; $ 850 engine)…and a car with a high pressure oil leak that loses all it’s oil after about 30 minutes on the highway.
