Best damn(reasonably priced) Sushi I have experienced. Not a fancy place by any stretch but clean and tidy with a pleasant staff. I have been back many times and picked up take out. Easily 5 stars for the sushi foodie. Def give it a try.

Confused at poor ratings, wondering if those people know good sushi… Great joint, fresh fish, tasty unique rolls. My favorite is the Fruit Ninja Roll: Mango, papaya, kiwi, tuna, salmon and special sauce on top.(See picture). Took my friend and he got chefs choice, 13 pieces and he really liked all of them, especial the uni. You can really go wrong with rank uni but it was bright orange, and very fresh. Very small place though, not much seating, nothing special on the inside. Kind of dive’ish. Takes a little while for rolls to come out if it’s busy, only two guys making them and they take their time for great presentation. A little expensive, dinner for two came to $ 102.

I’ve only ever gotten take-out from Sushi Akio, and so far so good! I live about 3 blocks away so delivery time never exceeded 20 minutes. The sushi has always been consistently fresh and flavorful.

This place really deserves one star, but I will throw in the second one for good service. First of, I love sushi, therefore, this is not my first rodeo. I’ve been around, have tasted plenty of great sushi. Unfortunately, Sushi Akio is NOT one of them. Mind you, I live close to this restaurant, and I’ve tried them a total of three times in a period of two years and is always been bad. Me being me and wanting to be optimistic has led me in here twice after the first and second horrid experiences. Their sushi is tasteless and tiny, so is their miso soup, and don’t even get me started on the crappiest shumai I’ve ever eaten. The only kind of reasonable tasting thing is the gyoza, and they are tiny as well. Save yourself from disappointment and even don’t bother trying this place out, is just not worth it. On my last visit, I couldn’t even finish the sushi from how awful it was. I felt horrible declining the waitress when she asked if I would like to carry the rest to go.(In my mind) Like hell to the no girl! Bottom line is that the only thing Sushi Aiko has, is nice employees, otherwise, the food sucks, BIGTIME.

Went back 2÷20÷16, original chef and waitress quit, horrible experience, worst sushi in NYC. Will not come back. Great while it lasted, a good streak, quality sushi done right at an affordable price… no more.

This place was praised to me as the best sushi in the area, but it was really kind of lackluster. The wasabi and tomiko were very fresh and tasty, but the rolls were sloppily constructed and the restaurant seemed run down. The rolls, overall, were just ok. Considering how much the food costs, they should really try harder. They also tacked on an extra charge to the bill for no reason, since we ordered take-out from within the restaurant and walked out with it ourselves, without service from a waitress or a delivery person.

It’s more«an apology post to the delivery guy» than«a bad review». I ordered some miso soup, garden salad, 3 simple rolls(cheapest) and 2 special rolls. Cost $ 58. Delivery from this sushi place took 1,5 hours considering that I live 7 minutes away. I called twice to check the order. On my second call the girl apologized and said that delivery guy had some problems with his bike. However, when the food eventually arrived, soups were still very hot(thanks at least for that). So I assumed that it was the place that took so long to prepare food, not a delivery man. But could be both. I overreacted and didn’t leave any tip to the guy. Really sorry for that. Most likely it wasn’t his fault. Overall price, quality and delivery time were disappointing. Nevertheless, the girl on the phone was patient. I guess she had enough experience talking to hungry=angry people.

I take that the average rating given to Sushi Akio reflects evaluation by average vast Americans who have not experienced standard sushi or Japanese food. The best food at this restaurant was only sub par. This restaurant has a Japanese name«Akio» but I found that no Japanese was involved. I imagine that the chef might have worked at a Japanese-run sushi restaurant for a short time, but the chef didn’t understand the essence of Japanese(or globally-accepted good) taste. Altered, perhaps Americanized, food served here didn’t quite match up average restaurant quality. I ordered Omakase for $ 40 or perhaps $ 35. — Appetizer, seemingly called Tuna Gaga, was not my taste. It was diced tuna, blended with mayo-based source, on a crisp taco chip. Mayo was too much and killed the taste of tuna. — Raw scallop sushi was served with dark sweet source that would be normally used for boiled Anago(eel-like fish) by Japanese restaurants. It was a total disappointment. The source did not match the subtle taste of raw scallop that had natural sweetness. — Temaki(hand-wrapped) sushi with spicy salmon served in the last also had too much mayo. And the salmon that was blended in the mayo source was obviously not from a good cut. It was as if any part of salmon could be used because the customer couldn’t see it after it was put in mayo. These uses of the dark source and mayo are typical to sushi restaurants that were opened without good experience in sushi and other Japanese food. I had a slight heartburn after the dinner and regretted that I tried Sushi Akio. Lastly, this restaurant did not have beer. You could choose only sodas and a low-grade sake. No oshibori(wet hand towel) was provided. Nonetheless, the chef handed me over a Temaki sushi served in the last. I knew that my hands were not clean but had to grab it — reluctantly with my two fingers. The episode speaks by itself as to the restaurant’s sanitary standards.

Perfect local sushi spot with quality and taste. The location of the shop is a bit out of the way from any local train stations but there is a bus near by. The shop is small and can take as many as 15 people. The sushi taste really fresh and the quality is great considering it is a small and private shop. You can watch the sushi be made and even see the quality of the fish that is being used. The store is a great place to go when you some peace and quiet. The price is a little high as mentioned in other posts from before. Price wise the food is worth it especially since it is out of the way.

Horrible service! I ordered a delivery and when the guy showed up, nothing I ordered was in the bag, plus the bill was $ 10 higher than I expected. He called the restaurant, and the man on th ephone told me that when I said«spring roll» he heard«rainbow roll». Don’t really know how. The man barely spoke or understood English. I declined the order and will never order anything from these people again!

This is probably my number 1 favorite sushi place. The rolls are delicious and fresh. Only complaint is that it’s a bit pricey. $ 15 for a roll at a dingy place isnt the best…

After trying to go to 2 other nearby sushi restaurants for dinner to find out they were closed for Labor Day, I ended up here. The hostess/waitress was very inviting even with the humongous amount of orders coming in. She warned us about the wait. Both the waitress and sushi chef were very apologetic about the long wait. Honestly, the food was a lot better than we expected. We basically just pointed at different items on the menu and they all exceeded our expectations.

If you are in the Forest Hills neighborhood you must go to Sushi Aiko! Seats are always filled and the phone is always ringing. The staff must be doing something right if they are constantly busy. My boyfriend and I try to stop by at least once a month and every time we try something new. I think we have gotten through most of the specialty rolls by now. For an appetizer you have to get the Tuna Gaga(mango, tuna and avocado mixed with spicy mayo on top of a bbq chip). My favorite is the Forest Hills roll and my next try is the Spider roll. The prices are extremely fair for the area, and they have the normal rolls in case you want to play it safe. To drink, I would recommend getting the house saki(room temperature). I like to get the omakase when I am very hungry. You can even choose from 3 different prices points — $ 30, $ 40, $ 50 — and all will be delicious!

All their sushi is made fresh and delectable. I enjoy their specialty rolls as well as their traditional spicy tuna crunch rolls etc. Prices are not too bad but little on the pricey side

Had a craving for some tuna sashimi and tried this place for the first time. The sashimi was extremely fresh and tasted great, and the avocado roll was also delicious(could have been a little bigger, but it was fine). I got the rice paper because I don’t like nori. Great little spot on Yellowstone and closer than the sushi spots on Austin! Definitely recommend!

I am by no means a sushi expert, but, having dined in two of the more high end places sushi places in Manhattan, I think I can help out here. I’ve lived in Forest Hills for close to 50 years, and know the place like the back of my hand, and this is one of the best little finds I found in a while. Located on Yellowstone Blvd, it is in what I would call a «dead zone» of the neighborhood. Not a bad thing, just away from the hustle and bustle of Austin Street, where I reside. I have went to Sushi Akio a number of times the last few weeks and have not been disappointed. It was fresh, cut with care, and a good bargain. I stuck with the standard rolls of spicy tuna and a spicy salmon. Both were great. One thing that topped it all was the super fresh avocado salad and ginger. Over the top tasty, with tons of avocados slices, almost paper thin, and a big portion for an app. If your in Forest Hills shopping or seeing a movie, wander down here from Austin. About a mile or so from Continental and Austin. Don’t drive. This is Forest Hills, where parking is impossible and everyone tries for the same spot!

I love this place. The owner and the waitress is super friendly and the food is exceptionally delicious. We drive all the way from LI to Forest hills just to satisfy our cravings. All the ingredients used are so fresh. The main chef also customize my rolls bc of a certain food restriction and it was just as good. I wish they opened up a location near us.

This neighborhood restaurant does a great job on my favorite – smoked BBQ eel. Their steam dumplings were also wonderful. Be prepared to pay a little more for this entre but it was well worth it. As a famous American once said: I’ll be Back!!!”

I love sushi. And I eat a lot of it. This was a disappointing delivery experience so maybe it is better there. Ordered : Japanese spring roll app(came with 3) it was ehh. Nothing special but will hit the spot if you need something deep fried. Spicy salmon with required addition(odd that you’re required in the ordering process to add something with an extra charge) I chose avocado and brown rice. It was the ugliest sushi I have ever seen. I guess an intern made it. The spicy salmon was somewhat on top in some parts then in it in other. Wrapped and cut so unevenly. Tasted pretty decent actually. But aesthetics with sushi are important. Was a piece of clear plastic in my spring roll too. Not what you want or expect. Only saving grace was that they give you a little dish for soy sauce. Only place I’ve ever seen who does that for delivery!

There aren’t enough good things to say about Sushi Akio. My one and only experience was not a good one… it was a great one. Came here with the gf because we were hungry and didn’t feel like doing the usual pizza. The first thing I noticed was that they had omakase. It was surprising since the place is exceptionally small and not really located in the commercial heart of forest hills(Austin Street.) What was even better is that they list the price for the omakase and there are three you can choose from, $ 30, $ 40, $ 50. The omakase that I was served was the absolute best value for money. I got the $ 30 one and I felt like it was worth at least $ 80. The sushi was delicious and creative. At one point I was served a sushi on a pringles bbq chip. This might not sound appetizing at first, but the flavors were awesome. The creativity and sheer volume of sushi I was served was impressive. If you find yourself in forest hills, don’t deprive yourself of the omakase at Sushi Akio. You’ll be glad you stopped in.
