Russell Sage Junior High School

Previously attending the junior high school there were plenty incidents and actions committed by students alongside teachers that were not informed to parents neither being taken care of. During my time at this junior high school there was a large amount of negative aspects that a school should not have. First of all there were plenty students smoking outside and indoors during school hours. Students would smoke in the bathroom as well as the backyard and the security guards apparently would not see none of these actions. As a student now attending high school about to enter college i see how many violations this school has that were never taken care of. Security is not watching students at all time. Students would also pee in the backyard In a corner in front of students and no actions would be enforced. During my time here I also had a selective amount of great teachers. Select teachers in this school care about their students success and future while the rest just want to pass them and intimidate young adolescents since they are recognized as an authoritative figure. Teachers and deans should immediately call a students parents and try to fix the problem instead of screaming at them until they reach the point of bursting into tears. One individual that is responsible for these actions is Mr. Hamilton and Mrs.Ticas. These two would intimidate students until the point they would be scared of them in order to get their point across. Besides the intimidation at this school students were not also place according to there grades. Plenty of students had 95 averages and were not placed in honors classes. During my time at the school I was just placed in regular classes but now that I’m in high school i am taking all honors and ap classes which suit my level. Overall I do not recommend parents sending their students here because there a more options than just this school that contains many negative actions. Also to leave parents with a lasting though. If you are going to send your a child here ask the principal Mrs. Grant about the past incidents that have occurred in this school like Mr. Hamilton the assistant principal of 6^th grade beating up a student on a lunch table as a form of punishment.

How do you give a school that educated all my brothers and I a bad rating. Obviously lots has changed in over the years since I went here till now, but no complaints from my mother. School is in a safe neighborhood and across the street from the 112^th police precinct. Teachers are caring and strict. A highly diverse group of children attend here on their road to high school and furthermore, college. I’d send my kids here if I say in the neighborhood. Well done.
Keep those young people in check!

I went to this junior high school several years ago and it was lackluster, to put it mildly. Most of the teachers I encountered were fairly or very indifferent about their jobs and seemed jaded about actually educating us (and I was in an honors class).
One of the overweight science teachers especially, was a jerk who notably played favorites (always blonde females) not only in terms of behavior, but also with grading. There was blatant cheating going on in one of my science classes, but as long as the cheater was attractive to that teacher, suddenly he became blind. Totally unfair and he was totally obnoxious about it.
Another English literature I had would always ask me, «What are you smiling about?» in a tense and anxious way. I can’t believe a 30+ year old woman could sound so unnerved by an adolescent smirking or looking happy while thinking about something else.
In terms of safety, there were a few knife fights and lots of kids with nasty attitudes and behavioral problems while I was there. Those kids are probably working at McDonalds now and taking instagram photos of the $ 100+ sneakers they had to work a whole day or so to buy.
Sad school, bad education.
