I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. I called to go in for a medical exam and shocking what they told me on the phone didn’t match what they told me in person. They completely wasted my time and tried to rip me off. I was told that they took my vision insurance but when I got there i was told that was only true for routine eye exams just so happened to be I was up for my routine exam. I was told that if a medical issue was found I wouldn’t be given a prescription because I didn’t pay for a medical exam which wasn’t covered by insurance and would have cost 75 – 150 dollars. This place does not have the best interest of their customers in mind, it’s all about money here.

This was my second purchase, but I am heated. They are a bunch of rude scam artists and tricked me to buy features that I didn’t need. I paid 100% cash. And 2 months later got a bill from my insurance for $ 800. I couldn’t wear the damn glasses because they are hurting my eyes, giving me headaches. Refused to fix the problems. Went to another store, problem solved in 2 second, eyes were not centered and aligned with the frame. Keep it up Carl.

The optometrist here is excellent. He gave a thorough exam, explained all of the tests he performed, and an easy to understand explanation of the results. It is one of the best refractions I have had.
The optician showed me different styles and price options for frames. They were upfront with pricing. I was lucky, and they were able to make my glasses on the spot.
Everyone was friendly, helpful, clearly like what they do, and working with each other. I highly recommend this Cohen’s Optical!

I’ve tried several other places for eye wear, but this is my old reliable and dependable choice. It helps that the staff is about as nice and helpful as can be. They go out of their way to accommodate anything I have a need for, including repairing glasses that I couldn’t believe they could repair.

I used Cohen’s Optical in Forest Hills worst service ever they got the perception wrong these are the most incompetent group of people.

The owner is a great guy. Selection is ok. The old lady that works there is full of bs. Never gave me a case for my prescription glasses thats cost me $ 600.

Been coming here since I was in middle school and have seen many people come and go. However, David has by far been the most helpful and engaging member of the staff!!! Definitely give this place a 5 star because of David!!!

I’m sorry, but I have to give them one star. On June 14^th I ordered my contact lenses — Carl took the order. Today is June 25^th and I STILL do not have my lenses. This is not the first time this has happened. I called yesterday only to be told by Fran that «they were delivered to the wrong place…» and that «everyone is calling…» What the hell is that??? I’m tired of this place and their excuses, they clearly have people there who have no idea what they’re doing. I will see what happens Saturday when I stop in for yet another loaner pair, but this is the last time.

I was given glasses that were extremely dirty and covered in messy finger print marks. When I addressed the Cohen’s sells associate about the issue, he responded that the technician had just finished adjusting them… which was completely unprofessional. Then, when I asked for my receipt, they told me that I’m fine and simply don’t need it. However, what really concerned me was when I asked for the original case that usually comes with any pair of designer glasses, to which the sales people answered that it has been ordered… first of all I would think that every pair of glasses has its own case, and for all I know they could’ve ordered another knockoff from a third party website… again UNACCEPTABLE.
After 2 days of trying to adjust to my new glasses I asked for a vision re– check, because I honestly thought that the prescription was wrong. (For my note that I don’t see difference between distance vision and close up, but they told me the first time at the store that it will take a few days to get used to them…) When I came back to the Cohen’s store, and the technician re-​checked my glasses before rechecking my eyesight, he realized that they are not progressive but single vision… which is NOT was my prescription was for in the first place. When I realized I have no invoice/​pink slip to show what glasses and coatings has been ordered, I asked for one. In response the store told me that the sells associated that assisted me is not present and nobody else can help me… again, SKETCHY and unacceptable. When I started to call other stores to see different pricing, I found that three stores (actually MOST stores. anywhere) around my area if you order designer frames (mine were 499 $) it comes with the original case and cleaning cloth… completely ripped off

Carl offers up world-​class customer service and I have been a client for over three years. Eye exams are quite quick and accurate. The selection of frames are middle-​to-​high end. As such the prices are just a bit inflated. The savvy shopper will negotiate a great price.

I had recently broken my glasses and was in he neighborhood when I saw this place on the corner. I walked in and received friendly customer service immediately. I asked about the $ 99 frame collection and was led there and helped with trying them on. There was no pressure to purchase expensive designer frames, which is what majority of the store is composed of. They asked if I wanted an eye exam at that moment, I said yes, and after waiting about 5 – 10 minutes I was seen. The Doctor was very very friendly, fast and knowledgeable. My exam took a total of 10 – 15 minutes, and I was told my glasses would be ready in about 30 minutes.
Overall, I had a very positive experience here and I would certainly recommend it to a friend.

I’m quite surprised about all the bad reviews. I purchased a living social deal because it was time I upgraded after a few years and this happened to be close to my home. It was my first time here and I had a very pleasant experience. The doctor who completed my exam was friendly and informative. The staff allowed me to take my time in choosing glasses even after the store was closed. They offered several different options for me, which is great because I can be indecisive. If you’re complaining about the prices of glasses, then you will complain everywhere that you decide to go. Overall, they were helpful and offered wonderful assistance to me. In the end, I was happy with my purchase and look forward to picking up my new set of frames.

Corporate follow-​up helps quite a bit and Cohens did just that. My concerns were addressed genuinely and comprehensively. Thank you.

Always have great service when I go. we bring the whole family my husband and son also have glasses and this is our place… thanks u guys love my new glasses.

This was my first time going there so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I went for a routine eye exam and it felt rushed. I kept trying to explain to the doctor that I feel like my current prescription isn’t right for me. He gave me a very brief and vague checkup and told me I don’t need glasses! How can someone who’s been wearing glasses for nearly 15 years not need them anymore? He told me I need reading glasses instead but I kept trying to explain to him the symptoms I feel everyday even without glasses. He kept cutting me off and told me otherwise. There were about 5 more people waiting to be seen by him so I figured that’s why he rushed me.

I did not compare their prices with others, but in terms of customer service this place is excellent. I had complaints about my transition lenses, they made me new ones for free. Every time my frames get little loose, I go in, and John fixes it. When I tell him to teach me how so i don’t bother them over and over, he says, it’s part of their job to provide the service. Yesterday I went in because my frame had some issue, and Carl fixed it in a minute. So, overall, I am happy I chose that store to get my glasses.

It was the most unpleasant experience ever!
I bought a new pair of Tiffany eye glasses on a Tuesday which they said they would have ready the day of and however I ran before closing on Wednesday night before closing. I had to wait about 20 minutes for my glasses. Carl, who was helping me gave me my glasses but did not have my Tiffany eye glass case and promised to have it tomorrow. I went to pick up the case on Saturday which is 4 days later, now everyone knows parking in Austin street is ridiculous so I had my friend run in to get it for me. 15 minutes later… my friend comes back with no case and says that their excuse was «some guy came and took our inventory.» I ran in there and couldn’t believe that they still didn’t have something I paid for! There was NO APOLOGY OR EMPATHY. But yet they keep saying «tomorrow I promise.» So my friend finally picks up my case on Tuesday (one week later) and a young gentleman calls me OBNOXIOUS! I couldn’t believe Cohen’s Optical, a franchise store would condone this behavior!
In all the years of being in the service industry, not once was I ever been treated or have treated anyone in this way.
Not only does this store not value my time, the worst was that I called customer relations who didn’t really do anything except apologize. They said they would address the issue but i seriously doubt that they did.
Thank you guys for ruining my experience.

Over four years after my complaint, I went to the store to check how things were, hoping things would have improved. Nyeeeet. Still filled with rip-​off scam artists. Checked for contact lens price. Gave me the most expensive price in New York City!!! Even Lens Crafters, not exactly known for discount prices, had price that’s 33% less than Cohen.
Stay away from Cohen. Seriously, this is like Kennedy Fried Chicken trying to charge Smith & Wollensky price. Absolute nightmare! If you’re in Forest Hills area, I highly recommend American Vision Care — just around the corner. Friendly staff and optometrist. They’re really accommodating and will work with your budget — a totally different experience from when you visit that creepy store Cohen.

I found a Groupon for $ 25 that entitled me for a vision check AND $ 200 off glasses. Sounds like a great deal, right?
After I got my Groupon, I made my appointment for 6:30 pm. I didn’t see the doctor until 7:30 or so, but he was nice enough. Unfortunately, he was also answering phone calls during the appointment (2 during a 10 minute visit to be exact).
The real fun started after I saw the doctor. I was looking at frames and the gentleman helping me informed me that I needed to purchase the glasses immediately if I wanted to take advantage of the Groupon. He then, he told me that if I wanted to take my prescription without getting a pair of glasses, it would cost me an additional $ 50. He then smugly told me it was part of the fine print on the Groupon. Fortunately my eyesight, although labored enough to warrant a visit to an optometrist, still allows for effective reading. There was no fine print that said anything close to this and I called him on his lie. Not believing me, he decided to read it himself to double check. He was lost when he realized he was wrong.
The owner then came by and informed the salesperson to give me my prescription. That’s probably a good thing as an optometrist is required, by law, to release prescriptions after a refraction test.
If anybody gets a Groupon here, know your rights before you let some jerk take you for a ride.

I hate when people try to rip me off, and unfortunately, the sales person in Cohen’s is what he tried doing. I went shopping in various places for new eyeglasses. I became attracted to titanium glasses because they are so light weight. I found a pair of brown Konishi titanium glasses that looked great on me! I asked the salesperson how much would it cost with high index and anti glare. He told me it would cost $ 380 with my DC 37 voucher. As he was telling me the cost, instead of him checking high index, he checked polycarbonate. Wow, he must think I’m really stupid. He had this sheet of paper right in front of me and it’s not like I’m stupid and not know what polycarbonate is. He wanted to charge me for high index when I would only get polycarbonate if I bought glasses from him.
I was also interested in these metal thin brown frame glasses (not titanium) that my union would cover. I was aware high index and anti glare would cost extra money. He said I can have those glasses for $ 205. Are you kidding me? High index and anti glare for $ 205 is overpriced.
To prove how much of a rip off this store is, I told him his prices are really expensive and told him I went to Lens Lab Express for titanium glasses and charged $ 180 for both high index and anti glare. He gave me this look, lied to me and told me that it’s impossible to get titanium glasses for that cheap. Of course, I walked away.
I also went to Mandarin Optical in Elmhurst and I also found Konishi titanium eye glasses! The sales person in that store, Michael, charged me about the same price as Lens Lab Express (he no longer accepts the DC 37 voucher, but he still offered a good price).
Stay away! You are better off going to other places for eyeglasses.
