Petco

Came here today to buy a couple of things. I walked in the door and there was a cashier and two employees standing around talking at the register. Not one person acknowledged me when I walked in, or asked if I needed any help. I passed another employee same thing not a word. I grabbed a large bag of cat food, small bag of bunny food, and a small 8 pack case of wet food. I did not get a bag for any of my items and had to carry each one. Why he didn’t put the bunny food and the wet food in a bag is beyond me. Horrible customer service they are too busy chatting to care about who comes in the store.

I took our beloved pug here to be groomed for many years. They always did such a fantastic job and made me feel at ease leaving her there. After leaving her at Beckys one time (never again) I would recommend this place for everybody looking to get their pet groomed. The entire staff was very friendly as well although Kendra was definitely my favorite.

I bring my lab to get him groomed about once a month there and I’ve never been disappointed with their customer service or had any concerns about my dog being treated well. Today my dog got a bath, nails and teeth done and when I went to pick him up, the lady who was bringing him out for me was struggling with getting his gentle leader on. I apologized because I thought he was misbehaving. As soon as he got out to the parking lot, he started peeing on the nearest wall. Then I realized that he had been holding his pee since I dropped him off there. He had played at the dog park (before I brought him for his bath) and he had drank a ton of water after playing there. It made me feel upset and sad that my dog was whimpering to be let out to go potty and the sales rep. Did not have the common Curtsey to take him out. I am disappointed. I’m giving them 4 stars because my dog is clean and manicured well but I treat my pets like family and I can’t imagine someone who works at a pet store to do anything less. The lady Lisa seemed nice (who was there when I dropped my dog off), but the other employee needs to rethink her career if she’s not going to treat the animals with kindness. I will def. rethink where I take my baby for his next bath. Disappointed!

I have been taking my two Chihuahua dogs here for two years for nail clipping with no incidents, but today I got an inexperienced employee that clipped one of my dogs nails to short and made her bleed. I stopped her from clipping the rest of the nails and walked out of the grooming shop with my two dogs to talk to a manager. I told the manager my dog was bleeding and that Petco needed to train her employee’s on how to clip dog’s nails. The manager didn’t do anything but stated they could put some powder to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile, the inexperienced employee came to the register and stated they would not charge me for the service. I will not be returning to this store again.

Been taking our small dog here for grooming for YEARS with no incident. On our last visit (and after I tipped the groomer), she informed me they «would no longer be taking our dog because she was too old, and she had to ask another person to help her hold our small dog’s hind legs up when she was in the bathtub». That was cold. Grooming costs $ 65 (no major hair cutting involved, just a bath, ‘sani’ cut, and then they stick her in the drying box) not including the tip. Why don’t they just have an upcharge because an old small dog needs the assistance of a second groomer for ten minutes? Well, it worked out. We were referred by a friend to the Pampered Pooch in Folsom and have been absolutely delighted with the very caring couple who own and operate it.

Had been taking my shih Tzu there for grooming. She had a cough every time I picked her up. After last trip very bad cough which she still has months later. Vet thinks they crushed her trachea but they will not accept any blame. I live on Soc Sec and cannot afford treatments she needs and Petco does not want to pay for it

I went here 6 weeks ago to buy my son his 1^st goldfish and was promptly talked out of that and into buying a minnow feeder fish due to the regular fish bowl I was buying with it. Fine, no goldfish– my son didn’t care either way. Well, flash forward to now and I killed the fish. I didn’t clean the water correctly and I’m sure I accidentally put the thing in shock. Well, my sons and I go to buy a replacement and at my statement of wanting to buy a minnow, I get a response of, what are you using it for? How big is your tank? Do you have a filter? How long did your other one live? If you don’t have a filter– that’s why it died… Well, call me an animal abuser, fine– you’re not getting my FIFTEEN CENTS for a replacement minnow OR any further of my business for the large Labrador that our family also has! My sons broke out in tears in the parking lot because the lady wouldn’t sell is a new fish. Get some perspective, Petco!

This store has always been nothing but a great experience. As a pet owner and animal lover I come here a lot. I get a ton of great coupons through the pet pals reward. And I mean big discounts. The staff has always been super helpful with any questions or needs and any time I have needed to return or exchange anything it has been no problem at all. There are two petsmarts in the area and they are more expensive and less helpful I personally feel, And they did a horrible job with grooming. I highly suggest this petco on east Bidwell! :)

I love my pets and spend lots of money on them treats, haircuts , toys but this petco in folsom on bidwell st is a mess I found this to be messy and very un professional couldn’t get the help I needed employees in isles were having conversations with customers or friends of there’s like they were at home or on street my Pomeranian couldn’t get a hair cut because they said he was being difficult (really) he’s a puppy and already has had a few haircuts with no problem looked more like they double booked and didn’t want to do job there attitude About it is what made me feel that Way, yea then I bought some treats since I was already there I didn’t complain about grooming part of my experience but the cashier was talking crap to another employee About the groomer right in front of us about her being rude to them, I’m not a big complainer but I felt I needed to write about my about it .ill just go somewhere else

It’s got what a pet needs.
Large store with everything I am looking for.
Service is good. they usually only have one register going and it can back up a bit, but they have always opened up another line if it get too bad.
They rotate the bulk treats for holidays and other times, which is pretty cool. Not sure my dog cares but i like giving him different looking treats.
They have clean up supplies readily available for the pet accidents in the store.

I have always preferred PetsMart over Pet Co, but chose to go to PetCo this week. I was looking in a section with reptile supplies and had some questions. The lady was new so she tried to help, but was clueless, she went to find someone else who just looked at labels to try and help me. I expected someone to know more than what I could on my own by reading labels. Prices were decent. The store was clean and shelves looked well stocked.

I came here with my boyfriend to pick up some supplies for his new snake. He did find what he was looking for, but what happened before and after was interesting… On our way to the reptile section we noticed three full grown snakes crammed in a tank about the size of a small cat carrier– they did not look pleased. This was true of the other reptiles also– small tanks, WAY too many reptiles in there to for them to be comfortable. We went to see the cute birds and noticed that there was a bird that had escaped from the cage. We informed an employee of this and she told us that the bird had been out for three days and they couldn’t get it to come back. Three days is a little concerning… especially since it seems that the bird had been hanging out in the same aisle the bird cages were located. After we had bought our stuff, I had to stop by the hamsters/​guinea pigs and see them. Not only were the hamsters fighting, but one also kept trying to escape to the top of its cage by shimmying its way up the side between the water bottle, and, once upon the bottle, was pawing the top. We saw a chinchilla in a seperate enclosure near the hamsters doing the very same thing. Seeing an escaped bird, other animals trying to escape, reptiles crammed in very small spaces together, etc., makes me wonder just how well the employees care for the animals here– or if they even care at all. Overall, one star for the animal welfare, another star for the employee that we informed of the escaped bird showing us where to get the snake supplies and being generally helpful. I probably won’t be back again, and if I do come back, it’ll probably be to see how the animals are doing.

I consider Petco to be a good place to stop by to find super cheap clearance from time to time. For example, I was in today, and noticed that they had several bird foods and cat toys for 90% off. It really doesn’t get much cheaper than that, even if it was over-​priced to begin with. When I had mice, I found a super-​pimped out cage on clearance for $ 12 that came with all kinds of toys and accessories, and also found a few extra accessory packs on clearance for $ 2. I couldn’t even find comparable prices online, so their clearance definitely rocks.
The customer service is okay. I’ve heard from employees that this is a tough place to work, so maybe that is why. Today I was looking at a cat that I was very interested in adopting, but the clerk didn’t seem to be very interested in helping me. She did take the cat out of the cage for me, but maybe since I had a small child with me, she assumed I was just there for a zoo show and not really serious, or something. She ended up telling me that I could find more information on the cat on the fatkitty website, which was unfortunately not true. I will probably end up going elsewhere for a cat since, according to what she told me, they charge $ 85 for a cat that is ready to go, and I know of a few shelters that adopt out cats with shots and chips and spays for $ 25 or less.
The major drawback to this store is that they are really dirty. About a month ago, my daughter and I were walking through the fish section, and one of the tanks actually spurted out water all over her. This has since been fixed, but I can’t believe anyone would let it happen in the first place– it was clearly an ongoing issue at the time because the floor in the surrounding areas was all wet. They also have a major cockroach issue, which I was told that they can’t really fix because of having to have «humane» traps since they carry crickets and stuff. That’s understandable, but still gross. I don’t want to take home a box from a store that has cockroaches, and it seems to be an issue with all of the surrounding businesses.

Thanks to Brie at petco, our 8 month old pup is on his way to being well trained. We underwent a 6 week training from her and it could not have gone better. She was so informative and personable with the dogs and people.
Petco has always given us great care with our other pets and pet needs as well.

There are lots of pet places in the greater Sac area. While this place is okay it just doesn’t do anything in a stand out way to separate it from the crowd. The staff are reasonably helpful but just so. I’d shop here again but wouldn’t seek it out above the others.

I have gone here many times, the groomers have been kind with my dog and listened to what I want. I appreciate the flexible schedule. Don’t forget to tip your groomers, they work really hard.

My experience with petco… no so good. My duaghter love small animals so I decided to get her a mouse for her birthday. One of the workers there told me I should get at least two or three becuase they are creatures who love to have someone else around so I decided what could go wrong by getting three mice. Of course I spoke to soon and before you know it one of them had babies. I know what your thinkg, anyne should notice if its a boy or girl by sneeking a peek under but I had a friend who was a vet (not anymore ue to a back injury) and said that one looked like a boy from down there. So i went back to petco and asked to make sure that, as I ordered all three of the mice were girls and they said, «not to worry their all girls.» SO I took their word for it but like I said before I ended up having babies because 2 out of the 3 «girls» were boys. So eventually those babies had babies and three of those babies had babies and so far two have died one was adopted and we set three free. I called petco and petsmart but neither of them except donations. :-/​As of now i have about 20 mice but I’ve had like 30 in all. My suggestion. NEVER BY MORE THAT ONE SMALL ANIMAL FROM PETCO!!! My ratings fo petco is an ultimate and mega THUMBS DOWN!!! :-/

Ok, I’ve had some bad experiences with Petco’s before. I understand it might not be the funnest job in the world, but for the most part their employees are far from friendly and helpful, and their prices are ungodly.
I’m happy to report, however, that my experience at this petco today was far from that.
I caught a tree frog in my backyard and wanted to keep him, but I had no idea what sort of stuff I needed so that he wouldn’t… ya know, die.
I wish I could remember her name, but there was a blonde girl there that was more then happy to help me pick out a nice home, food, and «furnishings», she explained EVERYTHING to me about frog care and she was actually excited to share her knowledge with me. They didn’t have the right top for the cheaper terrarium I was looking to buy, so she gave me the bigger and more expensive one at the same price, Awesome!
My little frog dude (I named him Alberto) will be happy for a long time to come! (hopefully)
