Nails by Design

I have always gone to the same nail place but because how busy they were I stopped by this place today after getting a pedicure here a couple weeks ago with a friend the pedicure was absolutely amazing the jewels they glued on totally stayed and today I was once again impressed by the way they did my nails and actually listen to me exactly how I wanted them it did cost $ 10 extra for the painted on tips and the glitter I had put in the center, so my fill cost $ 25 instead of 15 I guess it would’ve been about the same if I had gone with glitter acrylic. I left very happy and I think I’ll be changing my nail salon permanently

I will never go here again! I do not recommend them because their unsanitized tools gave my toe fungus.
Nails by design was the last nail salon I went to for a simple toe painting only. I never get pedicures, just toe paintings. As soon as I sat down, without asking my permission, the lady started digging in my big toes to get out my «in-​grown nails» that I didn’t even complain about or ask to get out. It hurt tremendously when she did it and my toes were both bleeding a lot for a while even after I left the salon and it hurt for a week after. Once I took the polish off 3 weeks later, I noticed that my left toe looked cloudy white on top in two different places. I got it confirmed from my doctor that it is indeed fungus, which I feared because it is likely that it will never go away. I called the Salon and talked to Anna, the owner, to let her know what happened so that they will not do this to other future customers. I am very displeased with their service and failure to completely sanitize their foot tools and that they can’t even take responsibility for their mistake.

I’ll start with the finished product. As you can tell by the photo I uploaded, the paint is pretty far out from my cuticles. Pet peeve. The glitter lines are messed up in several places. Oh, did I mention that the design was not what I asked for?
My two friends got pedicures while I had my nails painted. There were several signs on the window advertising specials, such as a full set of acrylic nails for $ 19.99, or gel for $ 14.99. I asked how much pink and white with glitter was, and they said $ 40. I asked how much it would be to just have my nails painted with tips, and they said $ 10. So I didn’t fall into any of the special categories, but that’s life.
I told the technician that I wanted my nails to be red with black tips (obviously I had picked out the specific colors). First she told me it would be $ 10, but then after we sat down and she had buffed my nails, she told me that it would actually be $ 15, because for her to put tips over a color would be a lot more work than for her to put tips over clear. I thought that made enough sense, so I said, «That’s fine.»
During the entire time that she was helping me, she was also talking to two girls who had come in behind me, and trying to help them make decisions, even though there was another clerk available who ultimately ended up doing their nails. I felt like she wasn’t paying attention to me at all. She was either talking to those two girls, or talking to her coworkers in another language.
So she puts on the primer coat, then paints all my nails red (although I honestly would have done a better job myself), and then paints on black tips that take up a good thirty percent of my nails. Since she had talked about how much work she was going to have to do, I assumed that she was going to scrape some of the black off, the way they normally do when they put tips on.
Instead, all she did was just quickly paint on all these black tips, and then tried to say, «Okay, all done.» I kind of just glared at her. My nails looked like Minnie Mouse, which isn’t what I was going for. I didn’t move, because I was trying to decide whether or not to tell her that I wanted a refund (she had asked me to pay before doing the work so that my nails wouldn’t get messed up taking my wallet out of my purse).
At this point, she took out a bottle of silver nail polish, and so I just thought, «Hm, let’s see where this goes.» She painted silver lines in between the black and red (I uploaded a photo) and that made it look kind of pretty. My friends were done, and it looked okay, so I just decided to accept my nails the way they were.
The problem is that the finished product really does not look that good, she did not put any top coat on, the design is not what I asked for, and she basically over-​charged me under the guise of extra work that she ultimately did not even do. I would definitely not come back here.

Love this place! Staff is super friendly, awesome prices, great work! Wish I knew all their names but the man does great pedicures, one lady does great designs. I basically take in pics of what I want & she creates it to look even better. Love this place.

The staff at this salon really need to take some classes on how to treat customers. I was at the salon on Sunday for a nail fill and pedicure. I gave the technician $ 25.00 in cash and asked her to charge my debit card $ 15.00. They overcharged my debit card and then refused to credit my account back once I advised them of the error. The technician I gave the cash too for a nail fill and pedicure basically called me a liar saying I never gave her cash and the male owner yelled at me for not coming back sooner. Again, I was there on Sunday and discovered the error on Tuesday. Forgive me for working full time and not checking my account everyday. It’s not about the money but the way they treated a customer. It’s a shame that they lost a customer, their pedicures were decent. Watch your charges ladies. I will never go to this nail salon again.

Very good mani and pedi. Very relaxing and affordable. The only reason they do not get a 5 star rating its for the lack of ambiance, outdated salon and, I personally do not like when they speak their language in front of customers, specially after someone asked for something. it feels like they are complaining or mocking the customer. Other than that, good service

Brought my mother in law in for a pedicure. No wait on a Sat. afternoon. Loved the ladies that helped us: polite, friendly, and did a great job. Only $ 20 for a pedicure with a message.

I came here because of their prices. I needed a full set of acrylic, which came out to only $ 20. I should have known better. The place itself is clean, but my set of nails were not what I expected at all. First of all, he cut me using his drill on two of my fingers! Never said sorry, even after you could clearly see that my finger was cut on the side. As he was shaping my nails, he asked if I wanted them square, but I said I wanted them more rounded. By the end of my visit, my nails were NOT rounded and ended up being almost triangle-​shaped. So as they grew, they looked very weird.
Also, he did not file them down on the top very well. My pinky fingers looked like I had pasted a rock on my nails.
I am not coming back here ever again. I have not used any of their other services but do NOT come here for acrylic nails.
Also, they say they accept CC’s but only up to $ 20.

I have been coming here for 3 years for fills and pedicures and they always do a great job. The massage chairs are comfortable and I love the paraffin wax you get for your feet during your pedicure. Anna, the owner is very sweet and funny!

Yes, they are the best. I have been to so many nail shops in Folsom and EDH and this is by far the best. I have been going here for 2 years and they do give the best leg/​foot massage with a pedicure. Take cash, they only will allow a CC if it’s $ 20 or less.
