Mike was referred to me by a neighbor when my heater went out. He came out to look at the old heater and recommended replacing it, which I agreed was necessary. Mike provided an fair estimate and was able to do the job within a few days. The installation went smooth and my new heater was up and running the next day. Mike spent additional time explaining the set up to me and trouble shooting unrelated issues.
I highly recommend this local family owned business that values customer service.

I bought a new house and decided we to get solar heat for the pool. We checked with two other companies, one told us our filter was too small the other told us that our pump was too small. Both were going to charge us a lot more then we exprcted for just the solar portion.
When we contacted Mike, who agreed that needed both a new filter and a pump to make the solar work. His estimate was much lower for the solar and he was able to finish the project in the amout of time it took the other companies to just come out and give an estimate.
Mike is a hardworking guy who takes amazing pride in his work and has an great attitude. He is in demand so his very busy, but he commicates very well and responds in a reasonable time frame.
After fixing up our house it has come to light how many businesses do half-​fast jobs and generally don’t stand by their work. We have been trying to amass as many high quality professionals as possible and Mike is the kind of guy you want on that kind of list.

Wouldn’t give an estimate for pool installation unless he received a service call fee. I ended up hiring pool time, because they came out and gave an estimate and it seemed good to me. I understand that your time is valuable, but I hope that you’re making enough money to pass on a full pool equipment installation because you’re too stingy to give a free estimate. We spent 5500 on all new equipment. It seems like a few «free» estimates would pay for themselves.

Honest guy who is very thorough with his work, carries quality parts/​equipment, and stood behind his work after the job was done. I am typically a DIY type person but had a fairly complex set-​up and glad I hired Mike to replace my pump. Will definitely call again should I need help.

We had a rust spot on the bottom of our pool, which was caused by rebar coming out from underneath. We had a similar spot before that someone else had already patched up, but it did not take.
While we just had the work done, we have full confidence that this time the fix will actually hold. The quality of the work was noticeably better than the last person we used, and Mike was very professional, fast, and had reasonable prices to boot. We are very pleased with his work, and gladly recommend him.

As a new pool owner I called Mike, thinking alright, all I wanted was quick tutorial on how to use my equipment, check the chemical balance of my water, give me some advice on any repairs and I’ll do the rest myself… That never happened — Mike’s been servicing my pool ever since. I called Mike because my 19 ½ yr old pool heater was having some issues and with a recent re-​location of the pool equiptment, Mike was not able to access the heater for repairs. Within 1 wk of contacting Mike, my new pool heater has been installed and I am able to use my spa.
Mike is an incredibly nice guy who is very knowledgeable on all aspects of pools.

I’m more than annoyed that he installed the wrong sized pump (way too small) on my pool. Then he still charged me a $ 75 service call fee to come back the very next week and tell me he had no idea why my pool wasn’t getting clean. Will not recommend nor use his services again.

I called him for a quote and he talks like a bad used car salesmen and is super cocky. Hides the fact he charges $ 75 just to give you a quote for what would amount to a $ 5−8k job.

I have been a customer for a about a year. Mike and his team are awesome. They are always on time, professional, and honest. His prices are very reasonable and our pool always looks great. Anytime I have a question or concern, Mike is always quick to reply by phone and email.

Based on the good reviews on Unilocal,I hired Mike when my pool pump failed. Mike gave me a call ahead, showed up on time, quickly identified the pump failure and gave me a few options to choose from with pros and cons. I chose to go with an energy efficient variable speed pump. Mike had it installed with 48 hours. I’m very happy with Mike’s quality of work and attention to details.
The great thing about Mike is that he’s very honest with the problem. Never tried to up sell me anything. He even recommended against spending extra to install controller to link solar sensor with the pump speed because of the low return on investment. He also never try to inflate pump cost to make extra profit. I couldn’t find online store to beat the pump cost he quoted me.
Overall I’m very impressed with Mike. I’d recommended him for anybody needs pool sevices.
BTW he’s also a fun Guy to chat with. Gave me lots of good pool maintenance tips while working on the pump.

I manage a large hotel for Marriott in Sacramento. I was called Mike on the recommendation of AquaStar Pool Products to help us with a drain issue we were having. Mike returned my inquiry immediately and set up an appointment to see me the next afternoon. He was very professional and I with in the first few minutes of talking with him about our issue I felt confident that I was working with the right person. He was very honest, up front about the cost of the repair, explained the scope of the work, and completed everything sooner than expected. On top of all that Mike then went above and beyond to show me some pool tips to help us keep our pool cleaner and clearer. Mike is easy to work with and his rates are excellent. I highly recommend Mike the Pool Man and will continue to use him when ever any of my hotels have the need.

We are a new customer of Mike the Poolman. He was recommended by the previous company that provided our weekly pool service. We had a bottom drain cover that had a cracked off piece that concerned us from a safety perspective with 2 small kids. I contacted Mike and he was very responsive in getting back to me almost immediately with some questions to help him ID the type of drain cover we had. He explained the available options, and was at our house within 2 days and had all three if our drain covers replaced with new VGB compliant covers. It was a pleasure to work with such a knowledgeable individual who was so responsive to our needs. We will definitely call Mike for any future pool service needs.

Mike has been my «go-​to» pool guy for the past 3 years based on a recommendation from another pool specialist.
In March of 2011, we were in the market to get a solar pool heater. I got quotes from Aztec Solar and Sierra Pacific. The salesmen were both nice from those companies and had identical bids (less than $ 100 difference) — but wanted to have a 3^rd bid. I’m glad that Mike was that 3^rd bid. Mike was several hundred dollars less than those other two companies. However, the BIG DIFFERENCE was that Mike installed much higher quality components and equipment. When you factor that into the equation, the spread difference between him and the other guys, Mike was about $ 1000+ cheaper. He knows what stuff works and what stuff breaks because he constantly fixes this stuff. Think about it… would you rather get car buying advice from a mechanic or a car salesman? The salesman from Aztec Solar, his name is Floyd, knows that he can’t compete with Mike on price and quality. I’m guessing that Aztec Solar and Sierra Pacific just hope Mike does not expand his business and marketing in the Solar Business.
I have an 18 yr old pool that was built with really crappy components and everything was causing problems. Mike did a great job in explaining what was causing my pool problems and laid out some solutions. He offered some solutions and his suggestions fixed my pool problems.
Mike is easy to contact via phone and very dependable. He shows up when he says he will. I highly recommend Mike for any mechanical work on your pool!

Mike truly cares about his customers. He is proactive on pool maintenance, thoroughly screens his employees, and is just a nice guy. We don’t worry about our pool being ready for swimming when we are!
