The Folsom Dog Resort & Training Center is an award winning facility that is a home-​away-​from-​home for dogs. We are a full service pet care center specializing in dog boarding, dog training, doggie daycare, and bathing services. We also welcome cats for overnight boarding. Our facility has over 10,000 square feet of safe, secure grassy outdoor play yard space and the area’s only doggie water park, complete with a beach entry pool with fountains and misters.

Overnight lodging accommodations include private, temperature-​controlled indoor rooms, exceptional cleaning systems, and 24-​hour surveillance and monitoring systems. We offer multiple activity options for play and exercise that include the chance for dogs to run free and pack play with other dogs in our expansive play yard.

History

Established in 2008.

Recognizing the need for top quality pet care services in the Folsom area, we built the business to include training services (led by Co-​Owner, Jason Davis, aka The Dog Guy®), overnight lodging, doggie daycare and grooming.

In 2014, we expanded to accommodate the growing demand for our services and moved to a renovated state of the art facility.

Since opening, we have received numerous awards, including KCRA 3’s A-​List award for Best Pet Lodging and Best Doggie Daycare, The Folsom Telegraph’s Best of the Best for Pet Lodging, and Style magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards for Best in Lodging and Dog Training. In 2015, we were also named as a Sacramento Area Sustainable Business for having a «green» facility.

Our proven training system has helped thousands of dog owners in the Sacramento area. We have an amazing success rate on addressing common behavioral challenges.

A healthy dog is a happy dog so we provide a great balance of exercise and play, socialization, stimulation, and rest.

Business Owner

The Folsom Dog Resort & Training Center is the brainchild of our two families. We are the Davis’ and the Romero’s. Our families are longtime friends, Folsom residents, and active community members.

When we first dreamed of the resort, we envisioned an environment that would promote the health and happiness of each dog that stayed at the facility.

We’ve always dedicated ourselves to providing comfortable accommodations, a wide array of services that meet each dog’s needs, and to retaining caring, knowledgeable staff to make that happen.

I created a Unilocal account for the sole purpose of boosting business in the area in which I work/​shop/​live. My only goal was to share positive feedback.
I work in an industry in which I am often asked: how do you like Folsom — (we are considering moving here)? How do you like your neighborhood? Which restaurants do you like? What do you do for fun? Eventually, I/​we end up talking about/​showing pictures of our dogs because who doesn’t love dogs?
And so, I felt I had a responsibility to share my experience. Even after 1 ½ years. Because even after 1 ½ years I still feel awful for trusting your company with my puppy. Even after 1 ½ years I know that leaving him in your care was the worst decision I could have made for him. I wrote this review because I don’t want other people to have the same horrible experience I had.
No one from your company called/​tried to contact me to follow up with training. I missed my follow up appointment (it was part of the $ 2000 package) and no one bothered to call and ask why… Are you curious now? I missed it because my dog was too terrified to get out of the car. And he goes EVERYWHERE with me, ALL the time. No one cared to «follow up» until I wrote a review on Unilocal

Took my dog here a couple of months ago! And it will for sure be the last! Dropping her off was the first thing that was very hard I didn’t get to see where she was staying let alone walk her back as soon as I came in she was pretty much whisked away! Two days later when coming to pick her up she was not her normal self

I’m always shocked by the bill, but they have a nice facility and the dog always returns happy.
If you look at the boarding facilities at some of the chain stores, it’s pretty dismal. Small cages and concrete rooms to play in. This place is the exact opposite. You’ll feel fine leaving your pet with FDR, but try not to get sucked into the costly blueberry facials, etc. Unless you’re into that… in which case, this place is for you.

I am very pleased with my newly trained dog.
I tried going to a 6 week class at a pet store and we had some progress with my dog, but not enough to make me happy.
After Maddy’s 10 day stay at Folsom Dog Resort she is a brand new dog. I love how balanced and calm she is now. We can go on walks, she doesn’t jump on people anymore, she’s not barking like crazy, she doesn’t destroy the house anymore.
The only thing I would want more is if they had web cameras. I would have liked to see my dog play in the dog park they have. I called and asked for a photo, and it was sent to me the next day.
I will be recommending this place to all my friends.

My RESCUE dog stayed here for 7 days and we had no issue at home after she came home! She is 5 years old and when she was 2 I tried to board her, she was not only horrible but I don’t feel the staff understood her needs. Originally I had signed her up and was willing to pay for extra one on one time with a professional staff member. She did so well I her group setting they called me and told me I wouldn’t need to have to pay the extra amount! And during her stay when they had «group time» she didn’t play with the other dogs. She wanted to be with the staff which they had no issue with. Lilly is a «people dog» and u firmly believe they understand that and were willing to accompany her with out the extra charge! She readjusting to her real home quickly and was not mad at mommy and daddy for leaving! This had not happened before. Thank you so much for such great care! We will be back soon!

We had our 1 year old dog stay here during the 4th of July weekend and was pleased on how well he did. When we called they explained that the base package is just for boarding and you can add on different levels of activities and snacks. We decided on a package with outdoor water-​time play sessions since our dog loves water and it was summer time. It was a great feature because the water area was very large and offered something different than a normal caged area. They mentioned that when we pick him up he may be very tired because they play all day — it was true! He slept the whole way home. It was a little more expensive than other places, but we felt comfortable with the amenities and the staff for our dog. When we picked him up we also got a report card and they explained what things he did during his stay, how well he played with other dog, and his eating habits.

I made a reservation for my dogs for the xmas holiday a month in advance via their website. I explained in my email I wouldn’t be available via phone if they called as I had a busy holiday schedule but asked that they confirm my reservation and explained I could send over any vet records they needed.
They insisted to talk to me on the phone and I called 3 times and left messages explaining that I would be hard to get on the phone right now. I finally got someone on the phone and all that happened is they aggressively tried to upsell me on different packages. I was willing to spend $ 1000 on dog watching and explained to them that I couldn’t spend anymore than that. They then told me they were completely booked up for the holiday even though I asked and explained to them to confirm my reservation 3 weeks prior! It was apparent that they were trying to save the room for someone who was going to spend more money on the different packages. Now I have no where to keep my dogs even though I had the forethought to get a reservation in advance!
This is the 3rd time I have inquired about their services over the last few months and every time they aggressively upsell! You have a great facility, let it sell itself!

Five stars for customer service! I recently met James at the Folsom dog resort. We were seriously considering enrolling our dog, Mona, in their 10 Day boot camp. We were finally sold and decided to invest the $ 1600 on the program. They really do have a lot to offer! The training seems like a god send and the staff are incredibly friendly and professional. I loved that we got to see exactly where our dog would be sleeping during the camp and what her schedule would look like. All of the dogs we saw there looked cheerful and healthy. This place is the real deal.
For financial reasons, we decided to cancel our commitment to enroll our dog in training after we already committed. There was no issue what so ever in canceling. I talked to James and he was totally understanding, he refunded our money imminently and didn’t try to resell us. I really appreciated that. It goes to show you how much they believe in what they do as a company and what kind of people they are.
I will definitely be back to partake in the services they offer when it’s a better time. My advice to the people reading this review is to go for it if you can afford it! Yes, it is expensive but there are plenty of different programs and they will find the one that will work best for your dog and what you want to accomplish. Folsom Dog Resort is an honest and effective business that is equip with an excellent staff and a passion for what they do! I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family!

The facility was really nice and clean. Our dog stayed from Friday night to Sunday early afternoon. We requested the super pup package for extra play time on Saturday only because we were dropping our dog off late (6 pm) on Friday and wanted to pick him up early Sunday (they open at 12). During checkout they charged us for the package on Sat and Sunday stating that all packages are charged for everyday and cannot be requested for only one of the days of their stay. This was a billing issue in that the manager was slightly rude but ended up removing the Sunday charge. Heads up for the future, any seemingly day upgrades apply to every day. We also requested a bath for Sunday. I called at 12 when they opened to see when my dog would be ready for pickup. They checked and informed us that he had already been bathed and was ready to go however when we picked him up at 2 he was still wet. He is very short haired so I was pretty surprised he wasn’t completely dried. On the upside our dog wasn’t eating the first day and I was able to call and speak with Kathy who was very kind and said she warmed his food and even put cottage cheese in it to make sure he ate. I really appreciated that and was impressed with her willingness to go above and beyond.

I called to find boarding for my dog over the Thanksgiving holiday and at the beginning of the conversation there was room (although, «they were filling up fast»), but as soon as I said I didn’t want the «happy dog package» at an extra $ 32 a day, there was no longer room! When I asked her if that had really changed in the 5 minutes since she started her sales upgrade, she said it had. I had a friend call back using a different name and this time agreeing to the upgrade, and what do you know? There was room! Can you say dishones, unethical? No thank you, I will never bring my dog to this facility.

I checked my dog in healthy and checked her out with a limp. I had paid for. special care and it’s not cheap. I called and asked what had happened, the manager told me I should leave my dog at home if I wanted special care. I told her she charged me for this one on one service, instead of apologizing she got into a defensive mode. I wrote to the owner jake, but had no reply from him. So you want ok to so so service for your loved dog, then they are for you.

I’m on the fence with this one. It seems like a nice facility but I have some issues.
1. They constantly try to up sale and charge for every little thing when making a reservation.
2. My dog has stayed twice. The first time she came home with a massive case of diarrhea, the second time kennel cough and an eye infection.
3. When I picked her up, her dog bed was COVERED in white longer dog hair. My dog has a short solid black coat. This means either there was another dog sharing her kennel or they don’t clean very well between dogs.
I also don’t like that their tour is very vague and you have to look through distant windows trying to see the yards, or where your dog will stay. People pay good money. I’d like to see exactly where my dog will be inside and outside.
The staff seem friendly and my dog seems happy when I pick her up. The training room is nice and I’m sure they do a great job with that.

As puppy parents planning a week long vacay, we wanted to make sure that our Jameson was getting the very BEST boarding. After considering several other alternatives, I came across the Folsom Dog Resort. I came in for a tour of the facility and was instantly drawn to the location — it was clean, provided ample indoor and outdoor play areas, and the staff was VERY polite and helpful. The Folsom Dog Resort was offering a discounted rate for first timers and it was hard to pass up. I got the ‘super dog’ package, which provided 4 daily play dates. Being that this was our first time boarding our pup, we wanted to make sure that he’d be well exercised so that he’d sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! At the resort, they also perform a 3x daily health check to ensure that your fur baby is in good health :) We also purchased a grooming package to waive the 1pm pick up time, the day after our trip. When I arrived for pick-​up. Jameson was clean, happy, and healthy. The resort provides you with a report card prior to leaving, so you know how they behaved while you were away! Thankfully, Baby J was a good ‘kid’. We would not hesitate to bring our puppy back here on our next vacation!

We sent our 2-​year-​old lab, Bailey, for the 15 day training after Michael’s excellent presentation of what we could expect. After good experiences with «puppy» training, we were at a loss as to where to go next. We did not have the time or skills to really refine our dog experience.
Our «pick up» session with Tracy was great. We learned so much about dog behavior in general and Bailey specifically. She showed us the skills and commands Bailey had learned while in residence. We left thinking that we would have a lot of catching up to do when we got home: Bailey would be excited to have us around and the environment would not be as controlled.
Instead we took home a new dog. Bailey immediately adapted to his «place» as we had been shown. (We stopped at JoAnn’s for a large square of fleece on our way home.) He knew what we wanted, stopped some problem behaviors like jumping on the patio door and «marauding» in the kitchen and even stayed on «place» when the doorbell rang the first day home.
We are looking forward our next training session where we learn more skills.
This was a great investment for us… and Bailey.

Thank you so much. I was beside myself with worry. Our baby boy is a rather intimidating to look at. I think it’s his yellow eyes. Anyway, the awesome peeps at FDR recognized his fear and anxiety as such. They did not interpret aggression from our pit bull. Both our babies came home smelling great with no issues. They were both exhausted, I’m sure part of it was due to all the play time. Thank you so much for taking such great care of our babies.

I called the center and spoke to a woman about scheduling a play group session for our one year old rescue mix. I explained that she may have staffordshire terrier in her. The woman responded that staffordshire terriers are not allowed in play groups, but she could play individually with a staff member in a private area. I looked up this option on the website, and it is under the ‘Non Social Dog’ section. Our dog is very social. :(
More and more people are rescuing. Many of these rescue dogs have some bully breeds in them. And most of these dogs are just as fantastic as labs, retrievers, and all the other «approved» breeds.
As a dedicated shelter volunteer and dog lover, I encourage this center to evaluate individual dogs versus a broad ban based on their breed or how they look.

My 7 month old lab, Buddy, just completed a week long training camp here and I am thrilled with the training and obedience he learned. Going for a walk with Buddy now is really enjoyable and he is so much happier overall. The trainers and staff here are incredibly knowledgable and they I’ll give you the tools you need to discipline your own dog. This is the best investment you can make in your dog! The only negative I can say, is your dog won’t want to leave… it’s definitely like Disneyland for dogs, haha! So glad I found Folsom Pet Resort and Training!
