History

Established in 1948.

Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is a living museum, presenting horticultural collections, education and research initiatives, and public programs that demonstrate environmental stewardship, promote sustainability, and celebrate the rich cultural connections between plants and people.

Located at the NE corner of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, QBG evolved from the 5-acre «Gardens on Parade» exhibit showcased at the 1939 – 1940 World’s Fair. Officially opening as Queens Botanical Garden in 1948 after local residents saved and grew the original exhibit, today QBG is a 39-acre urban oasis in one of the city’s most bustling and diverse neighborhoods.
