Queens Botanical Garden

Much smaller than the Botanical Garden in the Bronx. However, it is still a beautiful and relaxing place to walk around with a good variety of flowers to look at. I also noticed that they have a garden that they rent out for events like weddings. This is not really a place one should go out of their way to visit — it’s basically just a nice park with greater of plants.
Pretty easy to get to — It took me less than 10 minutes to walk here from the Main Street 7 train stop.

this place is beautiful! my parents got married here. the flowers and trees are great for picture taking. there is an entrance fee though, so make sure you bring your student ID for a discount

Small and pretty, but not worth a special trip just to visit. They also seem to have a problem with bumblebees in the gazebo garden, so be aware of that if you have allergies/​are afraid.

Beautiful hidden spot in Queens! Not much to do during the cold months: however, the tour and holiday events are nice for the kids. Nice time. One annoyance, our tour lady was so boring ! Lol

Not giving it five stars because it’s the biggest and best botanical garden in the city, but because I support any effort in Queens to bring some countryside wisdom into the bowels of urban asphalt and concrete. Yes, it’s a tranquil and beautiful place and they have a nice, new parking lot. But for me, as a local, it’s really about what it represents. Nature is a key part of any future city plan and we need places like this to be thought leaders and to inspire us. Grab the kids, grab the girlfriend, grab grandma, whatever. Just go there. Do it!

I am so glad that I have attended today’s Harvest Fest & Pumpkin Patch event. Boy it was a ridiculously long line to enter the garden. After you paid the admission, the staff or maybe volunteers were giving out maps but I went in my own route. I stumbled at this little garden with windows displayed with the plants. It was pretty cool and tried to take a picture of my reflection but a bit difficult with the light constantly appearing in my pictures. I love the beautiful and different colors of roses which a big section was dedicated to the Rose Garden.

Right now the QBG is quite unimpressive, and really awkward to enter on foot given that it’s part of but not truly integral to FMCP. This will help

I would not really call it a Botanical Garden, coz this is small like really small. Just the size of a park and compared to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, this appeared to be a pea sized. But on the upside, the park is beautiful and has various segregated sub gardens like the Children’s garden, wedding garden and the herb garden etc. There was also a play being staged just outside the visitors information centre.

This place would be good enough if it was free but at the current admission price of $ 4/​adult, $ 3/​child it’s a bit of a rip-​off for what you’re getting (not all that serene, not all that pretty, flowers in a sad state most of the time, not much to see, fishes don’t last long in the pond, this past year there was major construction closing off most of the park for an extended period of time– wtf, etc).
But having an annual membership cuts down on costs so I have one and come here as often as I can to be near trees, sit on a bench to catch some rays and have a stroll around the park. Also, one thing good about having to pay (Wednesdays past 3 pm and Sundays past 4pm are free as are the months from Nov thru Mar), is that it makes this place relatively safe which is a good thing because the walking course towards the back of the park can be quite desolate at times with security at a minimum.
FYI, their first year of charging admission (prior to 2010, this place was free) was their best year. Things were really, truly beautiful and well kept back then with lots to see but over the years, it’s been steadily going down in quality with every year becoming increasingly not worth the charge of admission.

Beautiful and serene, the Queens Botanical garden is a great spot to check out on a nice summer day. We initially came to check out the Taiwanese Orchid festival and ended up walking around the rest of the park.
The orchid festival was nice, they had live entertainment in front of the Administration building where it was being held (a girls expressive dance group) with crowd participation, hilarious! We walked into a room consumed with beautiful orchids. They had floral arrangements setup that could be used in the most extravagant weddings and a large array of colorful, naturally designed orchids. From yellow and purple to red striped and purple spotted, we were in awe at their beauty.
We saw a ton of photoshoots going on too; wedding, pregnancy photos it was cool to be nosey and watch them do their thang.
I will definitely return.

Beer Fest — not!
There are only a few vendors and the tables are manned by inexperienced beer knowledge. Not worth it !!!
There needs to be legit food trucks with killer food — not curly fries !!!

Definitely not worth the $ 4 admission fee on a Saturday afternoon in July. (Credit cards accepted for $ 12 min. spend.)
I didn’t bother taking pictures because there was hardly anything worth photographing. What few flora were in bloom were mostly wilted from the heat or just plain unremarkable. The only highlights from my 15-​minute walk through the entire garden were a wedding taking place in the tiny Wedding Garden and the Colombian flower wheels on display by the visitor center.
More disappointing still, all the grounds north of the Bee Garden (which by the way is just two beehives in a hidden enclosure) were poorly manicured, clearly in need of mowing and weeding. To add insult to injury, ugly chain-​link fences line area north of the arboretum. I’ve seen public parks that were better designed and maintained than this. I had high hopes before visiting, but Queens Botanical Garden needs to get its ducks in a row.

Beautiful little garden but it has potential to be so much better. Areas of the park badly needed weeding. I was expecting the grass to be well manicured, by it needed improvement. Free admission to the public on Sundays 4pm-​6pm so cant be mad. Great place for a stroll or to sit around and enjoy the scenery.

Do you want to enjoy the cherry blossoms when they’re in bloom but don’t want your view ruined by weeabos? Is that one reason why you find yourself no longer wanting to attend Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden? Then QBG is the place for you! Granted it’s much smaller, it’s fairly nice and quiet, admission is only $ 2 with a student ID or $ 5 for an adult (unlike the ~$ 20 you need to get into Sakura Matsuri)!
You can just walk around, sit down, enjoy the blossoms and take photos to your heart’s content. They also have wonderful flowers at other times of the year, and you even might see some cute wild rabbits or lizards running around (legend has it the lizards escaped from the science building at Queens College), in addition to the expected squirrels, sparrows and robins.

I hadn’t been here since high school and had forgotten how beautiful the grounds were. I came with my parents since they were having a exhibit on Colombian flowers. It was nice to come and see some great work done by my people and they even had a stage with some Colombian performers.
I got to talk around and enjoy how peaceful this place was.

Decided to spontaneously go to botanical gardens located in flushing, The last time Ive been there I was a child. Luckily I went on a Sunday during their free admission time 4−6pm. It was nice and beautiful in there with all the flowers blooming. Theres a lot of people and families taking pictures or just hanging out. Its a nice clean atmosphere but I don’t think id go unless its was a Sunday or Wednesday during their free admission time.

Too bad the flowers didnt bloom yet during my visit, but I will be back soon.
–During my visit there was a train show, minature displays how cute! Free to look if you already paid for park admission. There was a few kid activites like ring toss and bean bag toss. We got to plant a few seeds to bring home, how nice for my boys.
The park sits right in flushing, so lunch? No problem!
–Parking is free if you can find one on the street in this busy neighborhood, if not their parking lot is $ 10 per day.
–Summer camp available 2 days a week
–If the flowers were bloomed we can hang around for about a few hours here.

I’m 30 years old. I was born in Brooklyn, but I spent most of the past 25 years of my life in Queens. I feel like Queens is the forgotten borough. Queens is the largest borough in total area and the second largest in population, as well as the most diverse county in the United States, yet most tourists ignore Queens. People may pass by Queens to get to Long Island or to access the airports, but how many people actually visit Queens? Every borough is famous for something. Manhattan has Times Square, Chinatown, the Met Museum, etc. Brooklyn has Coney Island and Junior’s Restaurant. The Bronx has the greatest franchise in professional sports. Even Staten Island has the ferry. Queens has… the Mets.
I heard that Queens Botanical Garden had a model train exhibit during the Memorial Day weekend. I came to the garden solely to check out the exhibit. I’m not into gardening, though I do like cherry blossoms. The New York Botanical Garden also has a model train exhibit, but it’s during the Christmas holiday and it’s A LOT more expensive than this one. I took the Q20 bus to the garden (the garden is about a 15 minute walk to the 7 train and LIRR). It was only $ 4 to enter.
I wasn’t that impressed with the garden. It seemed more like a large park than a botanical garden. It’s smaller than its counterparts in Brooklyn and the Bronx (I guess the price is commensurate to the size of the respective gardens). Like many people said, parts of it were under construction. There was a section of the garden were they have weddings, but given my track record with women, I don’t have to worry about that any time soon.
The model train exhibit was towards the back of the garden. It wasn’t quite as impressive as the one at the New York Botanical Garden, but it was pretty good. It was worth the money I paid. They also had a miniature train ride for kids, as well as a concession stand that sold burgers, chicken tenders, philly cheesesteaks, etc.
I give the garden a 1 and the train exhibit a 4. I’ll be generous and average it out to a 3. Unless you’re planning a wedding or like model trains, there’s no point in going all the way to Queens to visit the Queens Botanical Garden. You can basically see the same flowers for free at Riverside Park.

If you love tulips now is the time to visit! They are in season and they have so many different types and colors. There’s also cherry blossoms, lily of the valley and more.
There seems to be some construction. I didn’t see any fish in the pond this time around and the fountain was also turned off. Towards the back a lot of the area’s were closed off for renovations but there is still much of the park that can be enjoyed. If you want to save some cash there’s free admission after 3pm on Wednesdays and Sundays but the garden closes promptly at 6pm everyday and is not open on Mondays. They will announce when the park is closing on the loud speakers a few minutes before 6.
We ventured around for an hour of so and took some cute family photos. We will be back later this summer when other flowers are in bloom and hopefully some progress will be made on the construction by then.

It can be packed at times especially when the weather is much warmer.
My wife and I came here to explore the possibility having our wedding ceremony here. The rose garden that they had was very nice and I would accommodate approximately 100 people. I felt that for the price for renting this area was worth it. But my wife and I asked what if it rains? Will there be a big tent? Or would it be held indoors? I’m not sure if people ask this normally, but if you are looking for a outdoor ceremony or outdoor anything, that’s a question you should always ask.
The backup location in the event that it rained during our big day was a basement with windows close to the ceiling. Decorations for this backup area would our responsibility which I thought was fair, after all, this place is a garden, not a wedding decoration place. At the end, we choice not to use this place for our wedding ceremony because we just didn’t like the basement as a backup. And lucky for us for not booking this place, it did rain in the morning of our wedding day and it extra windy.
The service, patience of the staff, and the upkeep of the garden makes this place one of the best gardens to visit.
