Since the year 1981, attorney Shields began the litigation career. The Law Offices of Liu & Shields is a dynamic, full service law firm combining its partners’ American and Chinese legal experience into a firm that cares for the personal and business needs of the Chinese and American community. We handle immigration law, civil and criminal litigation in state and federal courts, trademark, patent and copyright matters, business transactions, and real estate. At present we are litigating a wide range of cases, including cases involving personal injury and wrongful death, medical malpractice, construction defects, trademark infringement, international trade, business and contract disputes, immigration, and criminal defense in federal and state courts. We have obtained multimillion-​dollar results for our clients, and have special expertise in complex mass disaster tort cases involving significant damage claims.

Business Owner

Carolyn Shields is an American with ~40 years of experience practicing law. Her interest in Chinese language and culture dates from her college studies. As a law student at the Univ. of Connecticut, she was Editor-​in-​Chief of the University of Connecticut Law. Carolyn is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States and in the state and federal courts of New York and California, and has ~40 years of litigation experience in the courts of New York, California, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and Montana, with some of her noteworthy cases appearing in the legal literature. She has published articles in the law reviews, and has written a casebook, Cases and Materials on Admiralty and Maritime Law, which she used in teaching at Loyola University.
