We provide quality English language instruction by professional, native English-​speaking teachers who have master’s degrees in teaching English. Our accredited school offers an Intensive Academic English Program which prepares students for study in undergraduate and graduate programs or for advancement in their careers. We offer full-​time and part-​time classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. We are authorized to issue I-​20s for student visas and will help you with all the steps to transferring schools, obtaining a student visa from abroad or changing your status to F-​1.

Since its opening, Global ESL Academy has taught students from over 85 different countries. As a small private ESL school, we are able to combine the best qualities of both large university-​based ESL programs and other private ESL schools. The advantage of our small school setting is that we can provide more personal attention and support to our students.

History

Established in 2009.

Global ESL Academy was founded and is run by ESL professionals with a great deal of experience in both English as a Second Language teaching and administration. We are passionate educators and are dedicated to helping students from all over the world improve their English skills in order to further their education and advance their careers.

Our teachers are the top professionals in their field and have master’s degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). They also have experience teaching both in the United States and abroad. This combination of education and experience enables us to provide the highest quality academic preparation in English.

The school is certified by the New York State Department of Education. We are authorized under Federal Law to issue I-​20s for non-​immigrant students on F-​1 (student) visas and we are accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.

Meet the Business Owner

Shira S.

Business Owner

Shira Seaman, Academic Director, and Angela Choi, Director of Student Services, worked together for many years at Hunter College, CUNY. They decided to open their own school so that they could do what they loved to do, which is working with students from around the world and providing them with excellent classes taught by professional teachers.

Shira has had a long career in the ESL world with over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oberlin College and a Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Hunter College. She has also taught at Baruch College, at Fordham University and in the Master’s in TESOL Program at Hunter College. She speaks Spanish and German.

Angela is a native Korean speaker who learned English as a Second Language herself. After completing her Master’s Degree in TESOL at Hunter College, she taught ESL at Hunter College and Medgar Evers College before co-​founding this school.
