A great spot for some good food, and of course the music! Is it a little touristy? Yes. Overpriced? It actually is pretty good for the food I got(BBQ platter offered on weekends). Overall, it’s a must see if you are visiting town! And then go hike the nearby trails!

It’s the real-deal here at at the FCS – great food, cakes, coffee and pastries AND some of the most amazing music you will find in the world. Tasty soups and sandwiches. Can also purchase music, clothes, and just about anything else you’ll need. Read the other reviews and you’ll see that the FCS is the place you’ll want to visit when in Floyd(uh, really, that’s one of the main reasons we visit Floyd – to go to the FCS). We were here on a cold MLK, Jr. Holiday weekend and was happy to find it not very crowded. We’re fans and will remain fans of Floyd and the FCS.

My 200th review! Woohoo! And Woohoo for the Floyd Country Store! This is SO much more than a country store. Try if at all possible to get there on a Friday night, or a Saturday day — when there’s sure to be some bluegrass/Appalachian/country music happening on the stage at the back of the store. A jamboree for all! Wowzer. Shall I say that again? Oh my gosh! The shelves of t-shirts and souvenirs get pushed to the sides of the store, and folding chairs aplenty are arranged in front of the stage, leaving room of course, for the dance floor — where Virginia old-timers jump out during the first few bars of music and show the rest of us what«flatfooting» is all about. There’s a small restaurant — the white bean & kale soup was hot and yummy, and the vegie chili was nicely spiced. The cornbread was not my favorite though — I’m fond of moist, and this was on the dry side. There are unusual items and the expected, among the souvenirs for sale. Local soaps, t-shirts, Carhartt overalls, taps for your shoes(necessary for clogging and flatfooting), kazoos, and more. Floyd sits smack in the middle of Virginia’s Crooked Road — renowned for great music-makers. Find yourself nearby? Go, do not stop, and prepare for some good country fun.

Any trip to Floyd is incomplete if you don’t stop in at the Floyd Country Store. We visited Floyd a couple of times before going in and I honestly felt terrible after we discovered it because we hadn’t taken my mom in there when she came to visit. We didn’t know! Floyd Country Store is like a bluegrass jam spot and they have regular live performances. They’ve got a little deli and pastry bar and tables set up to be able to enjoy your food and the band at the same time. They’ve also got souvenir t-shirts and a small section of clothing. The clothing tends to be somewhat western/utilitarian and, even in the summer, seems to be rugged/durable clothes good for cool weather. They also have old-fashioned candy and some odds and ends like kitchen what-nots and locally produced soaps and goat milk lotion.

Visiting from out of town and stopped at the country store for some dessert. I had their black raspberry in a dish and it hit the spot. Lots of ice cream flavors and sundae/shake options. My finance had their peanut butter pie and I wish I could have stole more than one bite! They had tons of pie options as well. Next time visiting I think we’ll go with a bigger appetite because all of their café sandwiches and quiches smelled and looked delicious. If you’re going through Floyd definitely stop in, you’ll have fun looking at all of their merchandise as well.

In addition to selling handy items like knives, t-shirts, and gifts, FCS has a superb café. Unfortunately for us, we only get to enjoy it 6 or 7 times a year as we’re on route to visit family and friends in Roanoke. But you can’t go wrong with excellent sandwiches, delicious soups, and just some of the best quiches I’ve ever had Desserts are very good as well with freshly made cookies, pies, and cakes, etc. All at a very reasonable price. Place your order at the counter and have a seat at the center of the store where you can envision the next concert or dance at the back of the store on weekend nights. We’ve heard tales of wonderful evenings here, with groups like the Carolina Chocolate Drops kicking out the jams and the audience kicking off their shoes and dancing barefoot.

Cultural icon. If you want to understand blue grass, go here. Hard to imagine a better spot for it. Watching what seemed to be everyone from the whole town out on the dance floor living it up was so awesome! Just check it out. You have to. Also, a pretty solid store if you truly hate blue grass.

A true treasure and step back in time. We love the Friday night jamborees when the whole town comes together to hangout and enjoy some live Appalachian music. Its also nice to grab some ice cream or pie and play checkers or just rock on the front porch and people watch. The store also has some very cool items for sale.

I stopped by this place in a roadtrip and it was awesome! Being from the Northeast, something like this is akin to going to another planet. We went to the Friday Night Jamboree which features live bluegrass music and clog dancing. I thought my friend and I would stand out(and to be honest as two brown peeps in a small Appalachian town we were a little concerned) but everyone was so friendly and nice I felt silly for ever thinking such a thing. Another couple introduced themselves and insisted we get out on the dance floor. There’s also food and drink(no booze) served and you can still shop while the music is playing. Overall I had a great time and even picked up a cute pair of pink horse socks on my way out.

«Loitering Allowed» sign says! From the Looks of it(with Chairs filling every space along the Street-side storefront) I would say loitering IS Encouraged! I Did! This place is cool and worth seeing, if you are in Floyd! Store, Café and Event Center! I did not feel like bringing a little Eisbrecher, though they have plenty of Kitchen stuff, candy and«country» Jared Foods!

Cute place that seems to be the big draw in town. We had just missed a performance so I was sorry not to experience that. We had already had lunch elsewhere so we passed on the food, which did smell really good! We just stopped in to check out of rest of the store. Lots of cute chotchkies that you’d expect in a general store, a nice music section with books and CD’s, and even a few supplies for musicians. Very friendly employees, bright and inviting atmosphere. Go check it out if you’re in town!

Wonderful atmosphere, mostly delicious Southern food & desserts, adorably kitschy candy and tchotchke assortment, welcoming dance floor and company. The macaroni and cheese was gooey and flavorful, the kale quiche was rich and interesting, the pickles were crisp and enormous, etc. Some dishes were not spectacular, but we were impressed overall. The pecan pie was decadent, as we the other bars and cookies we sampled. Visiting the Country Store gives one a nice opportunity to step away from contemporary activities and to enjoy a simpler, yet nonetheless captivating dance party. =) Wonderful for all ages, there were 20-something hipsters dancing cheerfully alongside both 8– and 80-year-olds. I look forward to visiting again once the weather warms up!

Nice store and we spent a few bucks on souvenirs and had a pretty good BBQ sandwich. Good place to look around and perhaps catch some local talent. We missed the Friday night show but I heard it’s fun!

Such a great place. You feel like you are stepping back in time the moment you walk in the doors. From the old«penny candy» to the stage full of old time music, you are reminded of simpler times. The cute older men that sit in rocking chairs outside add even more charm to ths precious place! If going on a Friday or Saturday night, I would guest getting here early. This place gets packed!

We took my wife’s parents to the Floyd Country Store for the Jamboree Friday night April 5th. A great time! That Friday evening started out with an hour of Gospel by Janet Turner and friends singing old favorites. She was followed by County Connection for some music to dance to. A fun time!

I go to the Floyd Country Store every time I visit to eat some ice cream and buy a cool kitchen gadget, but this time I went to check out the Friday Night Jamboree. The festivities start at 6:30pm and feature three bands throughout the evening. Cost is only $ 5, but you should get there early if you want to secure a seat. The Friday Night Jamboree is a lot of fun. The musicians are excellent performers and the dancing is lively; many people are out on the dance floor, clogging and square dancing. Most of the attendees at the Friday Night Jamboree are locals, but it is becoming increasingly popular with the tourists. As for the store itself, it is, well, a country store, but worth checking out. It carries kitchen gadgets, music, books, cookbooks, outdoor gear, children’s toys, candy, and an assortment of prepared foods such as jams and apple butter. There is also a small bakery and lunch counter, with limited seating.

The Floyd Country Store is one of the best stops along the Crooked Road, Virginia’s Musical Heritage Trail. While the store, like the town itself, plays on a rather contrived«offbeat and old fashioned» vibe, the musical events at the store certainly live up the the hype. The popular Friday Night Jamboree attracts local and professional talent, highlighting the rich musical culture of the Appalachians. Keep in mind the Jamborees are held in the back of the store, so it will be crowded and a bit warm, but the talents of the musicians — and some of the dancers — render the minor quibbles non-issues. The admission price of $ 5 is well worth it, but be sure to wear your admittance sticker in plain view, lest a bellowing harpy will come after you, demanding another $ 5. The free Sunday afternoon«Jam Sessions» feature local amateur talent, and are quite good, though not as «polished» as the Friday night shows. If you are visiting Floyd or any nearby area, you must check out a musical event at the Floyd Country Store!
