I encourage patients to focus toward the ultimate awareness that emotional/mental health is a process of accepting that we are, «no more or no less, a product of our own behavior and the subsequent reflection of that behavior in the „mirrors of life,“ both literally and metaphorically and whether we like or dislike that reflection.» This awareness leads to accountability and «boundary skills.» These boundary skills vastly improve ones own mental health and the ability to recognize and respect the boundaries of others.
To understand that «we cannot give to others that which we do not possess and feel toward ourselves» is the foundation of developing healthy relationships and the focal point of the «therapeutic process. Conversely, this processing also reveals those areas that are developing pathologies toward individual mental and emotional health.
