Wright’s Pit Barbecue

This is a carryout only place with, according to a sign there, a 42 year history. It appears to be a great place for locals to get take home dinners because they have several ‘packs’ options on their menu with pounds of meat, sides, buns, etc.
I ended up getting a mesquite grilled chicken sandwich and a BBQ sandwich. I liked the chicken sandwich a lot. It was nicely grilled and the fixings (lettuce and the sites’s white BBQ sauce) and was tasty. It was served on a plain bun and before long the moisture of the chicken and the white bbq sauce had the bun disintegrating in my hands.
I ordered the BBQ sandwich as a ‘Medium Hot’. In this area the meat is served with slaw (like the Lexington, NC BBQ that I cut my teeth on), but the slaw can be spicy. So the slaw here because the spice as opposed to sauce. The meat was tender and the slaw was fine.
The inside of Wright’s is similar to a lot of other BBQ places in town (Bunyans for example) where even if they had tables I’m not sure I would actually want to eat there.
Would I stop again? Sure.

I tried wrights for the very first time about a week ago. We got 2 pounds of chicken and 1 pound of barbecue and buns only being $ 26 and way cheaper then most competitors! The place was pretty clean and had a 93 health rating! The woman at the counter was very nice and attentive, we had to wait about 10 minutes but I could tell it was going to be fresh and not just sitting under a lamp somewhere! The sauce they put on the chicken was fantastic! Even though barbecue isn’t my favorite, I still thought it was tasty too! Next time we plan to get the family pack which is only $ 15, which is a bit cheaper than most competitors! And if your not in the mood for barbecue or chicken they also have hamburgers you can’t go wrong!
