Holiday Inn Flint – Grand Blanc Area

When you see the sign, keep driving. We were in Flint delivering water for the relief effort and had volunteers coming from out-​of-​state. We booked a block of rooms, and, unfortunately for reasons beyond our control, several of the volunteers couldn’t make it. We informed the hotel of the situation, and they charged us for the rooms even after we explained the situation. The staff acted with total disregard as if it didn’t matter to them. Why would it matter to them? They had nothing better to do than stand behind the counter and act smug.
Aside from the poor upkeep of the facilities, this hotel is not worth the price of admission. There are several other hotels in the immediate vicinity that deserve your attention more than a tattered, outdated roadside dump such as this.
And as for my breakfast, it might as well have been the final supper. For the amount of time it took me to have breakfast I’m surprised that I did not burn more calories waiting for it than I took in trying to ingest it.

This place is a dump. Staff has no concern for your problem. There’s no control in the hotel. It’s old and stale. The night auditor said he had a room by the pool but the rooms by the pool are not quiet. So, here’s the kicker I came downstairs to change rooms because there’s a party outside my door. Huh, what. Ok, I’m not understanding what you’re not getting. I don’t know too much south park. Seriously, get it together.

I stayed here as part of a conference recently. My reservation was for two rooms (there were five of us split between the two rooms). When we arrived, we were accommodated early for check-​in, which was nice. But the rooms I was told were adjoining were not, a disappointment.
I was asked at check-​in if a room on the first floor was okay. A more accurate question would be, «Are you okay with screaming children in the pool area? Are you okay with screaming adults in the bar area?» Because that better summarized the rooms’ location. My four companions went to the rooms before me and were unpacked by the time I made it to the room hours later. In hindsight, I wish I had gone to the room so we could ask for a different location. The bar was kept open later than usual for the other attendees of my conference, many of whom are friends and colleagues, which made calling the front desk to complain about the screaming a bit awkward.
The room felt stale and dirty. There were multiple stains in a variety of colors on the carpet, the corners of the room were dusty, and the bathroom looked like it could use a deep cleaning. Not having an exterior window was odd. Our sliding glass door opened right into the lobby area, almost directly into the bar.
There was a mishap with our conference contract and the free breakfast attendees were supposed to have. The staff at the restaurant was rude to attendees, as though it was somehow their fault that the manager didn’t give details to the staff. When that issue was cleared up and clarified, the restaurant staff were pleasant.
The bartenders deserved hazard pay for tolerating our group.
If our conference finds its way back to Flint (we rotate through four states), I hope to find some significant improvement at the hotel.

If you want a good nights sleep, this is not the hotel for you. Half of their rooms overlook the atrium/​pool area and I was unfortunate to get one over the pool. It came with screaming kids and all. After a long day at work with an early departure the next morning, being told the pool was open until 10:30, did not make my day. The rooms also need a face lift. Will not be back!

Needs Improvement.
Pulling up, the grounds are well kept, ample parking and it’s clear the building is cared for. Inside it’s another story.
The gift shop was barren and looked like someones basement pantry. They may not have the business to support a well stocked gift shop but something needs to be done to make better use of the space.
The staff were nice and helpful. The hotel itself is awkward. You’re not clear as to what is where. To the right was a restaurant that is truly apart of the hotel. In the center of the main hall were preparations for a wedding later that day. That was odd, a wedding in the middle of a hotel hall directly in front of the entrance. Poor planning. To the rear were the meeting rooms. I personally feel the meeting rooms should be upfront and the restaurant should be towards the back. Why?
Because my room and many others have sliding balcony doors that face the main hall of the hotel. There was a wedding right outside my room. The constant traffic and ambient noise of the door, the check in counter, the restaurant, the event, is a bit much for someone looking to rest their head for the night. The glass was not sound proof. I had to call the front desk three times after 11:00 PM for noise complaints. There was a piano in the mail entry way yards from my room. As beautiful as the sound is I don’t want to hear live piano at 2 am when I have to wake at 7:00 AM for all day meetings. Someone did not plan this well.
My room had no real window to the outside, bad idea, my claustrophobia found it’s way to keeping me up most of the night, not to be outdone by the noise though. My room was noticeably used. I expect wear and tear in a hotel but there were several very dark carpet stains in my room. The bench people use for sitting or dressing was heavily stained and soiled. The chair arm rests were brown and sullied. The room looked sad. I was reminded that hundreds of people had been in that room prior to my stay. That is not a reminder guests want. My tub had a spider web and lovely spider to welcome me. There was hair in the sink and on the toilet. The lotion on my vanity was half used. It appeared as if this was a room employees trashed and stayed in when needed and it was only kept good enough for them.
The quality of this room was unacceptable for a paying guest. I was working, so to wake in the morning and not feel comfortable showering and not sleeping well has turned me off from Holiday Inn, esp this location. They need to get it together.

I work in the travel industry so I’m used to being treated as second class instead of first because I’m guaranteed money on a contract. I called to make sure I had a fridge for medical proposes before I arrived and was told they were all out… as I’m told ALOT but was told I could use a common area fridge which is unacceptable to me. When I arrived I was greeted by Tricia with a smile and I asked again about the fridge and she said let me see what I can do. Tricia took less than 5 mins to rectify my problem and was pleasant which I’m not used too their was large parties staying at the hotel and there was evidence of that in the lobby area and she treated me as though I were the only one staying there and I was most important! Thank you Tricia for your time and understanding of my situation it’s greatly appreciated!!!

I went down to their mediocre, over-​priced breakfast buffet this morning to get something to take back to my room. I was in my gym clothes and I didn’t want to eat in their dinning area. I was told they have a «policy» that one cannot get food from the «buffet» in a form container to take back to the room. Even if you only make one trip. I guess they can do whatever they want but it doesn’t seem like over the top service to me. Oh one more thing, my room was not serviced after the first night. I will skip this place next time.

God help you if your room is adjacent to the aquarium, er… indoor facking swimming pool.
Enjoy all the screaming mimi’s, slamming doors, etc. Cramped gym has treadmills and dumbells for your enjoyment. Knock yourself out. Literally. Pillows are plump and somewhat soft, but retains it’s thickness when you lay on it. If you’re into that.
Surroundings are nothing to write home about. Purely a commuter hotel.

My friend is now the Commander of the VFW in Michigan. His induction was held at the Holiday Inn in Flint and luckily I was invited. I knew I was going to be celebrating so I made sure to drink responsibly and get a room! My sister Sandra C was suppose to go with me, but unfortunately her husband came down with a bad case of the shingles — ouch! So, in other words she had to stay home and take care of him.
No big deal, just a little change. So, I went by myself. The new Commander was my brother’s best friend throughout his lifetime. He died a few years ago and so I represented the family with happiness! Anyway, the Holiday Inn was so convenient — parking, restaurant, bar, conference/​convention area — everything was perfect.
Thank you Holiday Inn for such a nice stay and my room was awesome!

Had brunch with my family for mothers day as we have for 10 plus years. The cost has risen over the years but the amount of choices and quality have improved slightly until this year. The quality and choices have dropped dramatically. For instance they no longer offer shrimp, salmon or choice meats. The soda I asked for came in a tiny cup like you would receive on a plane and we never seen the waitress again when we needed refills.
Seating was another issue. They wanted my our group to wait for our entire party despite the issues my parents had with standing.
2014 is the last year of this long tradition.

I’ve stayed here a number of times over the years.
The staff is friendly, the property is well maintained.
Rooms are comfy and quiet. And very clean.
The restaurant, J. Porters, has traditional american fare.
The gym is adequate. The business center is also adequate.
Nothing really stands out, good or bad.
Near the airport in a business district.

If, for some reason, you are staying in Flint and need a hotel, then this is your place. There are not many places to stay in Flint and, let’s face it, most of them (the ones on Pierson and Miller roads for example) and total dives. Trust me. Don’t do it. So, unless you want to stay in a neighboring ‘burb (Grand Blanc, Frankenmuth) you are seriously limited.
This was my concern while in town last summer (2009) when I didn’t want to crash with family but also didn’t want to stay someplace where I was afraid to touch anything or worried about getting robbed. I read some reviews on this joint and got a great price on Priceline. It’s listed as a 2.5 star but is better than that. It is new, very clean, and… did I mention very clean? That’s a big one for me. Comfy bed, extremely helpful staff, near to restaurants, grocery store, gas stations, and highway.
