I can’t say enough great things about this gym. We live in Phoenix and spend the summers in flagstaff. My daughter trains with the team during the summer and staff and team members are so welcoming. Thomas and Amylee are always helpful and available for private lessons. They provide great tips and feedback for my daughter. She feels at home in this gym.

Beta is a high quality bouldering gym with a good selection of features and a rustic feel to the place. There are quite a few variations of walls. Some high, some low, some overhung, some not. I wish there was a section that had an 80 – 90 degree overhang at a low height, as it allows for a whole different style, however the gym makes adequate use of its space. The routes are generally high quality. I don’t find the routes too reachy. They are known to have some reachy routes but in general there are feet to help you since kids are a part of their demographic, too. There could definitely be more incorporation of foot technique, especially in the overhang section, I hardly ever find my feet being above my head or in a unique position unless trying an advanced route(I have a feeling since kids are a big part of the demographic they have to refrain from sketchier techniques that other gyms would have). What this gym has that makes it unique in Flagstaff is the workout area. It’s small but has everything you need. On top of standard workout tools such as barbells and pull up bars, there are climbing specific tools such as hangboards, campus boards, grips to attach to weights to improve grip strength, etc. Overall a great gym, but additional foot technique could be added and it’s on the smaller side when compared to Phoenix gyms with more walls/features.

I took my first grader to the spring break camp and she loved it! The staff was kind and professional, the facility appeared well maintained and safe. Not being a climber myself I can’t speak to rout layouts or difficulty.

Adrian is great! We were in a bind when we got our ropes stuck in Sedona and the Beta Bouldering Gym was recommended to us by a gear shop when we were trying to troubleshoot how to retrieve them. I called the gym and Adrian was really kind and sympathetic but he couldn’t help us himself so he recommended we call the Flagstaff Climbing Center and ask for the rope skilled guys to help us figure out a way to retrieve our ropes. His kindness and sincere desire to help was greatly appreciated.
