Uncle Bill’s Pet Center is the premier pet store in the Indianapolis area. With locations in Fishers, Greenwood, and Ft. Wayne, as well as on the East, Northeast, and West sides of Indianapolis, Uncle Bill’s Pet Center is an ethical, humane source for a wide variety of pets, including dogs, cats, fish, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles, amphibians, and other small and exotic animals. In addition to pets, we also carry a large inventory of pet supplies, and are committed to helping our customers understand and care for their animals throughout their lives.

History

Established in 1985.

Back in 1985, Robert Wilson opened a pet store and named it after his beloved uncle, offering puppies and kittens for sale to local customers. Decades later, we are still family owned and deeply rooted in the central Indiana community.

When most local residents think of where to find a new pet, Uncle Bill’s Pet Center comes to mind. Lots of our customers grew up enjoying visits to our pet store, looking for puppies or kittens or a new fish for the aquarium, or just to enjoy the relaxed family atmosphere of the Indianapolis area’s favorite pet store.

Today, we still foster that family feeling in each of our six central Indiana locations. Even though some of our customers come from as far away as Chicago and Cincinnati to take advantage of our unmatched selection and quality, we love to build relationships and strive to make each of our stores a happy and uplifting place to visit.

I’ve been shopping at this store since the day they opened but today I spent the last dollar they’ll ever get from me. I was completely fine with the fact that they hire young kids, mostly girls, to work in the store but when I have to wait 15 minutes to give them my money because some creepy bearded employee is playing grab and keeping them from doing their job, I draw the line. The only person who seemed to be working was the manager but because she was working, I doubt she saw the shenanigans taking place in the store. I understand their frustration because most parents take their kids there as an outing while the yoga pants clad moms do whatever they do on their phone but I’ve spent thousands on pets and supplies. Looks like I’ll be a Petsmart customer from now on.

I’d give you negative stars if I could. Don’t EVER buy fish from this place EVER! I asked if they ever had ick, parasites, or anything in their tanks and they assured me up and down they didn’t. They plagued my perfect tank with everything, fungus an ick. I keep my tank IMMACULATE, test it religiously, and to top it off they originally over charged me for fish (they are tagged cheaper than they are) and seemed pissed when I brought it up. F^&! you guys! Don’t ever go here EVER.

I would give it zero, they don’t pick up the pee and poop, you can pick the locks on the cages, the workers are very rude.

This place is a horrible business, it’s ran by your typical high school UGG loving, pumpkin spice latte craving, school girls. Been in there a few times for convenience of dog food, we adopted a puppy from a breeder several hundred dollars less with shots and dog papers. ($ 800 compared to $ 1500 they wanted). They won’t even let you see the puppies for the most part. The only plus is they have a cat by the name of Mouse who roams the store and pretty much owns it, he’s legit.

I went into the store to get some dog food for our dogs. I didn’t know much about the store, being new to the area. The dogs in building had feces on their fur, urine was collecting in large amounts under the wire bottoms of their crates. It was tremendously disturbing. The dogs looked scared, neglected and neurotic from the conditions in which they are living. The staff didn’t seem to care or even notice.
I don’t know which is worse: the fact that I witnessed the blatant mistreatment of animals, or that I actually bought the dog food out of convenience; I supported that.
I will never step into that store again. I plan to attend the next protest. Please, avoid this chain. They support puppy mills and perpetrate the mistreatment of animals.

Went in today with my family to purchase some dog food and obviously to look at puppies. Who doesn’t like puppies?
First off, there was probably around 10 different employees that I personally saw that weren’t doing anything but standing there or walking around doing absolutely nothing. Usually when I run in here to get dog food I get asked a thousand times if I need help, I guess today everyone was in a crappy mood, I don’t know. But anyways, while all these employees stood around almost every single dog cage was FILLED with feces and urine. Water almost gone. It’s like they could care less. But yet they still want thousands of dollars for puppies when the pups have poop all over them and smell horrid. I understand every once in awhile it cannot be avoided, it’s a puppy. But for the amount of poop and urine in the cages, it seems like they hadn’t been cleaned in hours. Ridiculous.
Poor animals. They need to hire people who actually CARE for animals and not just a pay check.
Won’t be coming back here again.

The guinea pig my wife bought from this store had lice. When we called and told them they denied it. This new pet was just bought 2 days before so there was no way it did not come from there. The store manager argued on the phone with us and said it wasn’t their problem: «it was corporate’s problem and not theirs.» Nothing made since that came out of their mouths that corresponded with good customer service. They should have said, «Oh gosh, we are sorry. Please come in and get some remedy spray or drops. Meanwhile we will check our other pets to make sure other customers don’t get an infested pet when purchased. We are terribly sorry.» Instead, they were complete jackasses.

I went in once, the day we adopted our dog. An employee helped me pick out a dog food for him (which turned out to be horrible but that’s not her fault, she was just trying to help). I had no problems with the staff; they were all very nice.
But as I was walking to the checkout, I saw it. The wall of puppies. I wanted to put my bag of food down and run but I didn’t. I paid for it and knew the profit would go to a store that perpetuates puppy mills. I worked at a puppy mill pet store as a teenager. I’ve seen what they look like when they come in. There is nothing ok about it. There is NO reason to breed puppies for sale. There are so many dogs that need homes. I won’t allow one penny of my money to go to this store ever again, unless they stop with this puppy sales and start holding pet adoption days like several other local pet stores do.

I hate this place and most of the things it stands for… but when you live in an apartment that is brand new with no pets allowed and all you want is a puppy and you are driving by on a Sunday afternoon and there are no pet places around … all I want to do is hold a puppy!
They definitely get their dogs from puppy mills. They definitely stick fish in containers that are WAY too small for them. And they DEFINITELY have terrible high school staff. But they a new Beta fish display case and those fish look WAY healthier than they ever have. That is the only reason this place gets even one star.
I will never buy dog from Uncle Bill’s but they are good for my 15 minute puppy fix. Oh, and they are literally giving bunnies away… for free.

I went into get crickets for our pet lizard… they cost a little more here… but. they gave me like 25 when I was asking for 12… so that was not so bad… then I saw all these cute puppies. As I inquired about these dogs. I realized what they really were… An overpriced puppy mill.
You would think with the high margin they could get bigger cages for the animals.
Lots of animals. birds, bunnies, lizards, and of course lots of adorable puppies kept in micro cages… I saw a lion fish tied to a rock… How about a separate aquarium?
and of course my favorite was the not so adorable Mr. Spaz cat. jumping around a small cage… freaking out… probably would not spaz if it could get out.
