One of my favorite local spots that’s safe and always good vibes. However, the door guys arbitrarily changing the price to get in is getting old and is driving my business elsewhere. Happened 2 days in a row this weekend when I had guests in town. I get why they charge a cover; but it should be competitive, consistent with what’s posted online, what their artists post and what is expected at the door.

Pretty cool little place, and I do mean little. Its really like a basement but they have some good djs. The first time I went was on 80’s night. They did play some of the worst of the 80’s but it was one of the worst decades in music. Whats cool is if you dont like the vibe there are other places within walking distance.

One of my favorite spots. If you love house music, then check out their lineups. Amazing sound system. Great DJs. Pretty good staff. Some off nights, but it’s always a good time. And if you’re bitching about a cover charge, welcome to America.

This place had a $ 20 charge to get in. We pay and enter the lamest Halloween party I’ve ever seen. I will never set foot into this place ever again. So many better things I could have spent those twenty dollars on.

Update: I haven’t been here but I’ve heard that apparently they changed the venue to 18+. Taking off a star. This place has a dingy warehouse feel with a small dance floor. I love it. They play awesome deep house music here so if you want to dance to actual good music from talented DJs and not top 40 crap, I recommend Grasshopper. The people here can range from really eccentric to stylish and«hip.» I will gladly come here on a Saturday night rather than Bosco or any of those played out clubs.

If you like some deep house grooves, Grasshopper is your place! I once saw Stacey Pullen here for $ 10 and stood about 10 feet from him while he played. They bring in some pretty big DJs on the weekends and it’s even pretty great during the week but sometimes the type of music can change. And even if you’re not sure what’s playing that night, they have calendars listed outside and you can hear the music while you’re out there. I understand what others have said that this is a super small space and sometimes cover is $ 10 or $ 20, but it’s not like you’re paying just to get in. You’re paying for real DJs that people in other cities pay a lot more to see in bigger settings as opposed to this intimate space. Drinks are cheap once you’re in, and the crowd and staff are always great.

MMM-tsst MMM-tsst MMM-tsst MMM-tsst I can still feel the bass reverberating in my chest cavity from having been here four nights ago to catch DJ Assault. This is… an interesting place. $ 10 cover to get in(normally I’d be all«hell no, I don’t go to places with a cover», but, well, this was after one of our broadcasts and so I’d already been drinking…), and drink prices are reasonable. Staff’s friendly and not hyper judgmental about two middle aged white guys with grey in their hair parking at the bar and having a great night. Pretty eclectic mix of people, and definitely a fun night was had. I’ll go back.

By far the best place for house music in the area. The best sound system I have heard. The drink are extremely reasonable. The staff is above and beyond nice, even the packed dance floor wasn’t a bunch of idiots. Every time I’ve been here the talent playing has been amazing. Looking forward to going back soon.

Stopped by here last night for Halloween. Payed $ 10 for cover. The person taking my money said it was hopping. You can’t see whats actually going on downstairs until you pay. It was awful, really loud house music, the vibrations hurt my insides. I like house music but the vibe there was rough. There was a total of 5 super drunk people dancing and then creepers around them just staring. It really is like a basement party. Tried to get my money back, they said no refunds. Such jerks. Will never go back here, should have never left rosies. This place will not last long, guaranteed.

Went to go to this club after leaving the pig and whiskey festival. The cover was outrageous. They wanted $ 20 for the guys and $ 10 for the ladies. It didn’t seem like there were a lot of people there, most were outside. around the corner at Orchid there was a line out the door. The owners of grasshoppers should really re-think their cover strategy.

Bringing the best house DJs from around the world directly to you! This venue takes pride in its amazing sound system, unique look and ability to bring world renown DJs to an intimate setting. The staff is friendly and treats guests like family. While Grasshopper is best known for House music and fantastic weekend lineups, they also have a wide range of other events and genres during the week. I recommend adding them on FB and checking out the website( ) for a complete list of upcoming events and DJ bios. LOVETHISPLACE!!!

The Grasshopper gets the honor of being my 200th review! This place has potential. I love a good dance off and I’ve had a fair share here. Some nights the music is great, others I’m just not feelin it. It’s definitely easier to get into the groove the later the night gets(or the more cocktails consumed). During my last visit the cocktails were pretty weak. I do like that they have two bar areas even though this is a smaller space. Unique crowd and good people watching are two more reasons that I enjoy this place. Its got a college bar type of feel, probably because its underground, or it could be that old dried puke smell that hits you when you walk in the door.

As always, choose your nights, and research the talent if you go to dance clubs/bars like this one. Grasshopper Underground is an exceptional venue for dance music. The talent they bring in here is consistently good, the staff are beyond cool and respectful. Weekends can get a bit annoying with the drunk crowds coming in on Fridays and Saturdays, tripping over my shoes and spilling drinks into my face. Gee thanks. But like I said, choose your nights and research your talent. I’ve seen some amazing DJs here on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Facebook Grasshopper Underground to be updated on all events. The sound system is absolutely fantastic, and like I said, the talent is too. Do it.

Grasshopper has earned another star! I came back and cover was only $ 5 — I think the first time I was there was a special occasion guest DJ night. Anyway — I gotta say I love ending my Saturday nights dancing here. It has the perfect mix of friends just dancing around like crazy jumping & people gettin freaky on the dance flo. I don’t like dance clubs that are TOO serious or too sexual — I enjoy a fun, friendly, flirty dance floor and Grasshopper provides. Very fun place to dance the night away, can’t wait to come back.

With the new year comes new resolutions… to eat better, quit doing this or start doing that, to tone up or do more cardio. Me personally, I’m not a joiner and gyms seem a little impersonal, so being an out of the box thinker, I decided that rather than spend the coin to ride an elliptical for an hour, I’d just dance my self to a better, leaner, happier me. Boogie Fever was and is still my long time, in town, dance spot and as Ferndalians we have the fortune of having 4 dance clubs in our backyard. Given that the Grasshopper has been one of those spots that’s changed hands and names a few times over the years I never paid it much thought. In fact I was never a true fan of this place even when it was Gracie’s Underground and I love my martinis! There’s no doubt that when at capacity, this place is a sardine can and yes they charge cover which is a drag BUT what you can count on is… first of all, solid drinks!!! The bartenders here know how to pour a drink. And secondly a DJ who can spin. I wasn’t a huge fan of house music but I think the Grasshopper may have converted me. If you get here before 10 you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone on the dance floor… fortunately Joe V. is a party starter so if you drop him in the mix he’ll kick off the dance party by himself. You should friend him. The Grasshopper is a little small, it’s dim, it’s loud, it’s everything my grandmother would’ve hated but if you have the itch to dance, this place is like a crazy underground back-scratcher filled with pretty people ready to cut a rug. If you’re looking for a new spot, pay your cover, get a few drinks in you and dance yourself to a new better you for 2013.

Small bar in Ferndale — the entrace was a bit small so keep an eye out. Stairs lead you underground(hence to name of the bar) to a small, dark bar/dance scene. It was really loud inside so it’s hard to have a conversation with someone. No cover when we went on a Saturday night. There are two small bars on either end of the place; it’s a good thing it wasn’t packed otehrwise it’d be super hard to order a drink. The bartender we had was very nice and served us right away. Dance floor is filled with dancers battling it out for the centerstage. I was pretty drunk so it was fun to me. The bouncers are nice and let you come in and out(as long as you show ID).

The Grasshopper Pub is former Gracies Underground in Ferndale is a great place that is local, intimate and has great line up of DJs almost every night. The venue has been remodeled and they recently installed an amazing sound system. I am very big fan of this place and go there at least once a week. Most music that is played there is electronic music from different genres like house, techno and etc. DJs very from local to national to international stature. I have recently seen Detroit Legends like Stacey Pullen, Terence Parker and Juan Atkins perform there on different nights. Drink prices are reasonable and made very well. I also think they have bar food even though i never tried it so i can’t comment on that. Hope you will check it out and enjoy it
