Chwierut Thomas DO

Okay, okay… Dr. Chwierut is an odd duck. For sure, he is quirky. And yes, the receptionist is also the nurse. That does not bother me in the least. She is very friendly and if you go there more than once, she remembers you and your medical history. I have never noticed a picture of Brad Pitt on the ceiling, however, I will look for it the next time I am there. And I will think that it is hilarious, which will be great, since, if I am visiting the doctor, I am typically not feeling very well and having something to laugh at will make me feel better.
Dr. Chwierut is a D.O., not an M.D. Doctors of Osteopathy get different training than an M.D. They learn to consider a person’s entire body and mental health picture when making medical decisions, not only the body part that hurts or is full of snot. Dr. Chwierut’s status as a D.O. is why I chose him.
Dr. Chwierut’s no-​nonsense, frank attitude is why I kept him. He will tell you whatever he is thinking. And I like that. And he’s funny. I feel like whenever I go in for a visit, he listens carefully to what I have to say and offers solutions to whatever issue has brought me in. Also, when I need an appointment, I can get one. I just call up the super friendly nurse/​receptionist and she knows me as soon as I say my name and can often get me in on the same day. (Just to be clear, I am not there all of the time, just once or twice per year on average.)
So, yeah, the fact that Chwierut apparently told another reviewer that he did not think that she would «spread her legs for anybody» totally sounds like something he would say. If you dig honesty like that, this is your man. If you would rather be dealt with in a sterile, sugar-​coated manner, this man will disapoint and shock you and you might begin to wonder if he is a real doctor.
But not me, I like his moxy and I will be his patient until he retires.

First off:
When I got there, my appointment was in the late afternoon and I thought it was weird I was the only one there.
Once I stepped into the back room, I realized why. I felt like I was walking into a crack house. Everything was so out of date… there wasn’t even handles on the doors!
As I stepped into the room where I was seen, my first thought was that someone was playing a prank on me. There was NO paper on the patient table (which was barely big enough for me to sit on in the first place), no soap next to the sink, and tongue depressors being stored in a paper cup.
The doctor was older, so I thought maybe he was set in his ways.
Another thing that caught me off guard was that Sue, the receptionist, acted as the nurse, the receptionist, the lab tech, and the insurance biller. For some reason this seemed odd to me (almost as if the doctor didn’t want to pay for the correct staff)/
Ok now for the horrible part:
–The Dr. didn’t wash his hands before or after seeing me
–When asking me what medications I was allergic to, after every response I gave him, he told me I was over-​reacting to the reactions. I’ve been allergic to these medications my whole life. I think I would know if I was over-​reacting
–When he heard I hadn’t had a PAP in a year, he almost pressured me into having one right then and there.
–When listening to my chest with the stethoscope, he lifted my shirt almost all the way off of me without any sort of warning.
–He had me lay down on the bed (without any sort of paper on it) so he could feel my stomach. He started listening to my stomach with the stethoscope, and without any warning lifted up the waste of my pants (I had on yoga pants) and put the stethoscope as far down as my pubic bone.
–He asked what time of the day I take my birth control. When I told him I take it at night, he told me I shouldn’t. The reasons? He said because if I go to to a party and end up drinking so much that I start puking, it would effect it. Also that I might be so drunk that I might forget to take it.
–When talking about my weight, he told me I was getting up to the area that most people want to stay away from. But then went on to say, «You look good. I haven’t seen you naked, but you look good. I had a patient come in the other day who was 187 lbs and was so hot. She was well placed. Her shoulders were large and her breasts were large… She looked like she stepped out of playboy.»
Maybe it’s just me but when a Doctor sees a patient for the first time (or even for the 100^th time) a Doctor should NEVER act like this.
I feel so violated.
When leaving, I didn’t even want to stick around for a few seconds to put my coat on.

So, when going to this doctor, I actually had the thought more than once: maybe this is fake and he’s not REALLY a doctor. To start with the little things: the receptionist doubles as the nurse, which for whatever reason, weirded me out. On multiple occasions, I had the first appointment of the day and the doctor was late by 45 minutes or so. And the receptionist/​nurse kept coming in to tell me the doctor had hit traffic.
Okay, for the really effed up stuff:
–In response to one of my health concerns, he once told me a long and rather gross story about HIS own health, and how I was making too big a deal of nothing.
–Should you go in for Ob-​gyn, prepare to be greeted by a ‘sexy’ picture of Brad Pitt on the ceiling. WTF? SO CREEPY. Just take a second and think about how creepy that is…
–I asked for some info about the HPV vaccine. He replied that he didn’t think I needed it. Some girls, he said, come in and they’re young and blond and they’ll spread their legs for anybody. But I didn’t seem like that kind of girl. And, as I insisted on information, he kept talking (on and on) about how «some girls will lay down for anybody.» But I didn’t seem like the sort of girl who would do something like that.
–Heart palpitations? Well of course you’re going to get them if you drink things like alcohol and coffee.
I feel like this review sounds fake or something! But this guy was really just that absurd! I totally wanted to stage some sort of feminist protest outside his office after all this. Eh, I guess I am too lazy for that – but at least i can warn y’all!
