History
Established in 1868.
Bonney-Watson’s story began in 1861, when the University of Washington commissioned Oliver C. Shorey and A.P. DeLin to carve the four Ionic columns which became part of UW’s first building in downtown Seattle. Shorey and DeLin ran a cabinet shop and in 1868, added casket making to their services. Thus began the company we know today as Bonney-Watson. In 1881, L.W. Bonney became partner and in 1903, Harry Watson joined the company. For the first time, the Bonney-Watson name went on the building. In 1912, Bonney-Watson moved to Broadway Avenue and East Olive, where they remained for a half century. In 1962 Bonney-Watson relocated up Broadway to Howell Street, where we operate today. In 1978, Bonney-Watson acquired Washington Memorial Park and Mortuary in SeaTac. In 1989, the firm added a funeral home in Federal Way and in 2000, acquired Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home in Ballard. To this day, Bonney-Watson remains a family-owned firm – the oldest continually operating business in Seatte.
