The Orleanian

Me and my wife are here today. I had the Jambalaya and she ate the Étouffée.
My Jambalaya was definitely good wished they used a little more of the New Orlean Spiciness on it otherwise fine. I tried my wife’s Étouffée which to me was delicious as well felt like it was missing those Home spices to make the flavor pop.
I will return to see them again for some other items on the menu. Didn’t mine the price because I’m not eating some fast food garbage. I was a delight to sit there and enjoy the music.

Went with a friend close to closing and we were the only customers, so we were well attended to. Tried the fried alligator poppers, but they were a bit heavy, although surprisingly tender. Loved the fried zucchini, not in the least bit soggy, and the crawfish étouffée was alright too. Dinner portions are smaller, and priced a touch high; I will likely revisit during lunch hours. I liked the lightweight aluminum chairs and clean look, but they could use a pop of color. I’m pleased to have them here in town!

Disorganized, wait was too, pre-​prepared, greasy fries. Will not visit again. Food way you over priced.

What this chef cooks up he does well! Fried fish, shrimp po-​boy, and bread pudding is AMAZING!!!

Went for lunch today. The guy was very pleasant and attentive and place is clean. They earned a 97 in their health inspection. Hooray. What they need is a scale to measure decent portions and a Paul Prudhomme or Justin Wilson cookbook or phone app!
Sadly I am forced to give them a C on all the food with the exception of the gumbo. It was tasty but could have been better. .I assign a B.
My jambalaya was a small portion of brown rice and about 1 ounce of sliced sausage with perhaps a hint of seasoning. No onion, green peppers, celery or garlic etc. Definitely a mediocre example of this famous dish. My friend got étouffée and that was also a bare attempt and minimalistic. I’ve seen characters on the Walking Dead scrounge up more salient dishes.
My lunch serving was just over a measuring cup in portion size and I had an Arnold Palmer iced tea. That meal cost almost $ 12! I was hungry about hour later.
I’d be hard pressed to give them another chance. I view it as an unfortunate effort for a town that deserves something better. I live in Raleigh and am at Fort Bragg.
To be honest I’m shocked and surprised at the positive reviews others shared here. I’ve spent a significant amount of time in New Orleans and have been through 25 countries. While I admit to not being a chef I certainly didn’t get 10 pounds heavier than I’d like by eating below-​average cuisine.

I had a great experience here. It is in a strip mall and would be easily missed. I love gumbo, and they provided a great bowl of gumbo. Service was great.

If you like food and it happens to be Cajun food then this is your place. The décor is minimal and expected of a start up business however, it’s not the worst I’ve seen. I took my girlfriend for her birthday as an off the cuff idea and we were both pleasantly satisfied after the first bite. The crab cakes and étouffée were superb with nostalgic undertones of authentic N.O. food. We ordered the gumbo and took it home to our delight as we could extend the pleasure of dining at The Orlenian on through the evening and following day. It’s not gourmet chef food but still requires a skill to prepare and you won’t be disappointed except in the appearance. If you want to look like you are eating a 40 $ plate go to another restaurant but if you are looking for a relaxed environment with food for the soul then The Orlenian is for you.

Authentic New Orleans style restaurant near base. Gumbo was excellent, hearty and great flavor. Jambalaya had good flavor but I felt like it was lacking… the sausage and chicken were tiny. I’d be happy if they charged more and put more meat in it. They also have homemade pralines at the register which were excellent

Good Cajun options to include some of my favorites: crawfish étouffée, jambalaya and seafood gumbo. Only place Cajun joint I could find in Fayetteville and the prices we very cheap. Must try if you like Cajun food!

I ordered the $ 8.00 «Fried Chicken Salad», and received an unimpressive small bowl of iceberg lettuce (stalk included), Kraft’s shredded chedder cheese, soggy croutons, and 1 pre-​frozen breaded chicken strip cut into tiny pieces. It was dry and clearly had been frozen for awhile.
For the price I paid, I really expected some New Orleans flair but instead received a children’s side salad.
They can do better.

Being from Louisiana I can safely say this is the real deal. It is an authentic representation of southern Louisiana style of cooking. For all you nay-​sayers out there, get real This is home cooking Louisiana style.

This place has delicious food at very reasonable prices. Try the etoufee or the crawfish bites or the boudin sausage, they are all tasty! It’s in the same parking lot as general Jackson. Great lunch specials!

First time here and customer service was wonderful. The lady was personable and very friendly. The decorations can use a little work but it’s at least clean. We ordered the crab dippers, shrimp entouffe, shrimp po boy, and jambalaya with sweet tea. I love the sweet tea! The entouffe was spicy with really soft rice. Today they had beignets which weren’t the actual ones but still pretty great. They were nice and fresh not sitting under a heating lamp. Our food came quickly with our appetizers first followed by the entrees with great timing. Overall, the food was pretty great cooked by actual New Orleanians.

My husband and I tried The Orleanian for the first time tonight. The first thing I noticed as we entered was the overwhelming smoke smell. Someone either smokes inside the restaurant regularly, or smoke smell is seeped into the walls/​ceiling, etc. the ambiance is seriously lacking. A few pictures hang on the wall while holes are all over. The aluminum tables are extremely light and easily move around in the normal course of eating.
Our server was super sweet! She was the best part of our experience. Service was a bit slow, but not terrible. We got appetizers and side salads and they all came out together with our entrees. She seemed to be the only one working other than the kitchen staff. (Although others in Restaurant shirts seemed to be enjoying a meal near us.)
The food was very good. I got the red beans and rice, which came with small pieces of sausage. I came with a tiny side salad and a piece is deliciously moist corn bread. We ordered the bayou poppers appetizer. Both the shrimp and crawfish were delicious.

Don’t waste your time! I ordered jambalaya and received a plate of uncle bens rice and MAYBE a ¼ of a sausage slice (not an entire sausage). The waitress went to «take care of it», and received more rice and another ¼ of a sausage slice. Staff was nice, as others have said but this was an embarrassment to Cajun dishes. You could probably get good fried fish here, but you can get that anywhere.
Laissez les bons temps rouler? not here, Im just waiting for the diarrhea to hit me.

I should have taken a picture of my shrimp étouffée, not what I was expecting. I’m not sure what was going on tonight, but what I experienced is not worth me going back for. I waited between 20 and 30 minutes for my meal.
The staff were extremely nice, that’s probably why I continued to wait for my food.

The food is great, the prices are low, and the service is outstanding. My co-​workers and I have been tiwce this week already. We’ve also been lucky enough to try two of their newest menu additions: Crawfish Poppers, and the Meat Pie. Both are quite cheap in price, but fantastic in taste! Both of these items achieved instant «Comfort Food» status with me.
I was also able to try their Bread Pudding and Sweet Potato Cornbread today. The bread pudding is some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The Sweet Potato Cornbread was a new dish for me, and I’m glad I tried it.
I really cannot find anything worth knocking a star off my review with this establishment. The chairs could be more comfortable, but the food and fantastic staff make it more than worth while.
Fayetteville has badly needed this kind of variety. And now we not only get this great cuisine choice, it comes with very friendly service, AND prices!

Love, love, love trying new local owned and operated places. The food here was great — the only reason for 4 stars is that the service while friendly — was SLOW. So, so, slow. There were only 2 other tables when we went in, but it took almost an hour to get our food. Plus. the chairs are not very sturdy — very uncomfortable… And it was very warm in there, felt like no A/​C was on.
But the food… Very good!

It’s hard to describe with anything other than Amazing! I lived in Louisiana for 3 years, often traveling south of I-​10 to get some good Cajun food.
They have authentic, Cajun menu items that are amazing! I had the jambalaya and «small cup» of seafood gumbo. The service was great and very fast, making me think they’ve wisely adapted their practices with Unilocal criticism thus far.
I asked the waiter for Louisiana hot sauce in case the jambalaya was off, but it is spot on! It’s got that perfect, authentic, Cajun seasoning to where you don’t need a sauce.
The «small cup of gumbo» is massive and delicious. The entrees come with a small salad and a piece of bread, but I can truly say I don’t care about that lol.
They had blues music playing, I just wish there was more décor inside.
Appears to be a family business. Very nice people actually from Louisiana. I’m glad they opened a restaurant here, because it could very well hold it’s own down in Louisiana.
Having now tried most of the restaurants in Yadkin Rd., I’d say this is the best. Hands down!
