DIY Gearheads Tires and Auto Care

Love the concept of this place. I’m not scared of wrenching on my truck, or changing its oil by myself, but I’m not a fan of doing so in the cold and snow — which, in Michigan, is something you’ll find a quarter of the year.
I called on a Wednesday to book time for a Saturday slot. Wasn’t asked to give a name as I was told they didn’t look to be too busy, but I sort of wish I had, as once I arrived on the big day, the place was slammed with people wrenching on cars (the local Jeep groups seem to love booking multiple bays) or coming in to check on availability (a good sign/​problem to have, I suppose). I arrived at 11:50 for a 12:00 appointment, and don’t think my truck was in a bay until 12:15 and in the air until 12:20.
But that’s my one and only complaint. The bays are clean, staff members are friendly and helpful, tools are available, and the ability to catch and discard oil/​used filter without laying on my back is a godsend. Had I desired, I could have rotated tires in the time spent there. The owner, Tim, patrols the shop on regular occasion, asking if you need anything or any help, and even went over the underside of my truck with a fine-​tooth comb (or flashlight, really), making sure there wasn’t anything else that needed urgent attention.
Though I spent a little more time than anticipated at DIY Gearheads, I actually spent less than I had anticipated. I think my time in the shop (30 – 45 mins?) for a change came to all of $ 15. Combined with buying and bringing my own oil/​filter, I gave my truck a full synthetic change for a third of the price of a jiffy-​lube shop (and much more competently, too, since the last shop to touch my truck barely tightened the drain plug, as I found once I got underneath it at DIY Gearheads).
Greatly recommend the place — just make sure to reserve in advance (and maybe get your name on their calendar?) and budget a little extra time to get set-​up and cashed out. Happy to see this business in our area, and happy to see it doing so well!

Where to start?! I made an appt. for a bay on a Sunday. Was able to get my brakes done, rotate my tires and some other odd-​n-​ends type of things and it was GREAT. Techs showed me some of the basics like how to work the lift, and where the tools were, but they just let you do your thing pretty much unimpeded.
It’s clean and the bay rental prices are PERFECT! Will be reserving again this weekend JUST to do some other little things to my car!

This is a newer business to our area and they are currently advertising a $ 24.95 oil change that includes a free tire rotation. In my case I just stopped in for a tire rotation. No problem they knocked it right out for me and I was on my way again within 15 minutes. The place has a pretty big garage (like 9 bays) so looks like they have plenty of room to take on a lot of jobs at the same time. They advertise many other services besides the oil change and tire rotation such as suspensions, brakes, electrical, transmissions, etc.
