Love this course the fairways and greens are in amazing shape and the proshop staff is amazing.

Beautiful place. Tucked away in the mountains outside of Camp Pendleton. Can hear artillery in the background. Views are stunning. There are some distances from hole to hole. Driving through nature was scenic.
This is a great course. Only $ 45 at 12:40. Everything was perfect. But its not exactly an easy course. Must be able to aim and place shots.

This is for the bar area in back. Love it; simply put. Mia is always our bartender and she is an absolute blast. She really makes it a great experience. The cocktails and amazing and the atmosphere is just as amazing. We’ll be back… like always!

Sadly, this course has gone way downhill. The greens had multiple sandy patches (fungus?). The greens were rolling at a 7 and the course was all torn up. There were golf cart paths through the bushes, the holes were messed up, and it’s no longer manicured. Really a shame.

I really like this golf course because it is challenging but enough forgiving as well. It is a beautiful course and it’s usually always in great condition. The signature hole is a par 3 with a sand trap in the middle of the green. Some may say it’s tacky, I think it’s great!!!
I can see where other people say employees are particular to the locals, but 99% of the time I’m on the course, not in the pro shop, lol.
I was recently disappointed that you usually get the driving range included in your greens fee, and now they are charging for it. (I got an under par deal for $ 100 for 2 during the week) they charged $ 5 per golfer and the balls were in horrible condition. You would think half the balls were just retrieved from a lake on the course… kinda disappointed about this because it use to be pristine.
Probably my favorite course in North County and Temecula that I play. I’m a cheap golfer so this does. It include some of the obvious courses like Journey, Maderas, private clubs, etc. I really enjoy playing here!

very nice course was in good condition. greens are pretty fast need to hit right part of green or gonna have a very tough put. overall layout I really like its a challenge not for a beginner. definitely play here again.

Attended a wedding here just a few weeks ago. While I enjoyed the space and all the green that this venue had to offer I was not impressed by the event staff. The wedding was outdoors and the venue is only available until 9pm.

Great course tucked away in the middle nowhere. Semi-​private feel with nice facilities. Course was challenging in a good way, risk and reward. Pro-​shop and starter were nice, and saw the beverage girl twice on a Sunday (if you play Sun afternoon golf you know how rare that is).
Only small complaint, the greens could use a little TLC.
Oh and the range is hitting off grass.
All that said, we’ll be back.

Great track and very challenging however I do have a few issues:
1) Green #1, every time I’ve played this course the first green is always distressed. Not sure if its the heat, lack of water or disease but it’s been that way now since I first played it 2 years ago.
2) On 09/​05/​2014 we played 36 holes. The cart never bothered to stop and ask if we needed anything to drink. We saw her 4x over an 8 hour period. The temperature in the afternoon got up to mid 90s and it was hot and humid.
I would recommend to a friend and will likely play it again but will wait for another
deal to make it worthwhile to drive out to this course.

The people complaining about the course here, shouldn’t be playing this course to begin with. Stick with a municipal, and you’ll be happy. For the avid golfer (I play every weekend), this course was excellent. If you have a problem with forced carries, this is not your course. It’s punishing if you’re a hack, and that isn’t the fault of the golf course.
Overall, this facility plays as close to private/​country club as you can get for open tee times. To date, this course is holding excellent conditions. From the tee to the green, overall is a 10+. Although, this course is not easy; I reminisce this track plays close to Lost Canyons in Los Angeles. We drove from downtown San Diego to play this track. 8.7 handicap — have played all over the country.
Tee shots need to be dialed in, as there is no trickle effect or member bounce to be had on this track. Many times, tee shots, and even approach shots, are taken through a small opening of overhang. Not ridiculously punishing, but enough to make it interesting.
Approach shots are where the first-​time player will get in trouble… to be long is to be gone. Many of the greens sit island style, with long or errant side shots off into the vegetation. I ended up playing all my approaches to the front of the green and it made a dramatic difference on the back side. Greens are in great condition. Putt true, speed reminiscent to those at Salt Creek; pretty quick, but okay.
The club house is what you’d expect from a true Club style facility, IF you’re used to playing private clubs. Although, pack water; there’s only one water station on the whole course and we only saw the cart girl once. But to be fair, there was barley anyone on the course. To my next point — we played Sunday, 1:20… and not a soul on the course. I know we had a threesome behind us, but it was wide open. Pace of play was excellent. We got in just around four hours.
If you don’t have a laser, you’ll spend some time trying to figure out your shots. GPS is so-​so, but the reception was not good enough for accurate readings. Like a fool, I didn’t ask for a yardage book at the clubhouse, but they have them for players, and they will help — IMMENSELY.
Will be back, for sure.

Beautiful Course, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Their marshal is a real piece of work. We allowed 2 twosomes that were members to play through. The marshal came and yelled at us stating we were holding up play and that there were 7 member groups behind us. We quickly went to the next hole and felt rushed for the first 3 holes on the back nine. When we finished we decided to have lunch and wait for all the groups behind us. 1 hour went by and NOT 1 group came through. We felt harassed by this marshal because we were not «members». We asked the marshal after our round about all these groups and he had nothing to say accept «I’m sorry if you felt I was abrasive» even his apology was abrasive. Could have been a very pleasant round but we did not need to be harassed on something that was not true.

My first time there and I enjoyed it. There is a driving range and you are hitting off of grass, but the hitting area was really torn up. It looked like they have never changed the spaces where you hit from. The course itself was nice. The front nine did have some quirky holes. Unforgiving doglegs, a green with a bunker in the middle, thick trees that overhang and block greens… Previous course knowledge here is key. Back nine is more straight forward and easier to navigate if you have never played here. The greens roll true and though there are several with multiple tiers, they are not so fast as to make it frustrating.
The place is in good shape and the views throughout the course are beautiful. Not a course you want to walk. There are several stretches where it is a long cart ride from one hole to the next. I will certainly be back.

Played two rounds here and not going back. The course is above average for the area but the management is significantly below average. First round was on a weekday and it was enjoyable. Tried the restaurant and while the building is beautiful, the service was negative. Haven’t been back inside the restaurant after that.
Took my buddy back on a Saturday for a 6:30 tee time. We were joined by another twosome, playing behind three foursomes. The nice marshal spoke to us about the slow play in front of us 4 times. I’ve played on Saturdays and know what to expect, didn’t bother me. But what bother me was the «push» mentality.
This ruined the enjoyment of my golf round.
After the round I overheard the starter in the pro shop complaining to another customer that the quality of players in general was on the decline and that was partly responsible for the slow play.
What ever the root cause, I suspect it is in part due to the management tee time scheduling starts very close together. Didn’t hear a word on any pace of play issues at check in. Just after they had my money.
I think if you live in the neighborhood the course employees suck up to the local members, otherwise — I wouldn’t waste my time and I won’t. There are so many other courses in the area to choose from.

Wow. I was thoroughly impressed with this course and can’t believe its taken me this long to play here! The price was right for this semi-​private course tucked away in Fallbrook. The facility is top notch with all of the amenities you would expect from a private course and the course itself is very well kept.
Playingwise… you need to bring your A game because this course will eat you up if you’re sloppy. Now that I’ve played it once, there are a few holes I’d play a bit more conservatively and lay up on. To me, it was the perfect balance between challenging and forgiving.
I will be back =)

This is a great course. I would consider membership if I was closer. Why do I go all the way to Fallbrook from the east county for golf? Well — there is always a early morning tee time available on line for a decent price. The pro shop guy is funny with a dry sense of humor. The course is well manicured and has a challenging but fair layout. Also, the members seem to be move pretty quickly so you can get in a quick round, even on a weekend.
Oh — and the cart girl on Saturdays is very cool!

My fiancée and I visited the Golf Club of California yesterday for a close friend’s wedding. I was especially curious to explore the space as I was contemplating booking it for my own upcoming wedding. The venue itself was beautiful, and once the wedding started it was actually a wonderful experience. However, the treatment received before the wedding began spoiled our moods and killed any idea that I had about hosting my own wedding there.
The ceremony started at 5:30, but we ended up arriving about 30 minutes early and decided to grab a drink inside the bar/​lounge area, as it appeared a few other guests were there enjoying a drink. My fiancée stood at the bar for a considerable amount of time while the bartender moseyed around avoiding eye contact with us. Finally, she came over and asked for our drink order. While she was pouring our drinks, another bartender joined her behind the counter and they proceeded to complain to each other about how wedding guests shouldn’t be allowed inside before the wedding since club members «pay good money to enjoy this space».
Mind you, there were maybe 3 – 4 people in the lounge that didn’t appear to be a part of the wedding and the bartender had already made it obvious that they were the priority when she ignored us for ten minutes before asking for our order. If the management wants to deny paying guests service and only allow members inside, I suggest you take that up internally as opposed to loudly complaining in front of guests. The only things these two worked well at was showcasing their inexperience in the service industry and general lack of etiquette.

Not a fan of this type of golf course at all and I am sure I will not be back.
There are mostly forced carries to every hole.
There are very few yardage markers anywhere.
They give you a yardage book but honestly it didn’t really help our group at all.
The greens seem to be developing clover on it and it ran a lot slower than it looked.
It wasn’t the most interesting course at all and few holes were memorable.
Also it seemed to be like a maze trying to find some of the holes crossing the streets and cutting back and forth.
Not the greatest golf experience for me at all.
I like Eagle Crest Golf Course a whole lot better as far as the layout and shotmaking
it gives.
I just didn’t like much of anything about this golf course.

The Golf Club of California is one of the classic stories of a business being built at the worst possible economic time. Once a small private club, it ended up shutting down and eventually reopening as a public course. It is a hike from most populated areas of the County, but is well worth the trek. Nestled into the hills above Highway 76, the course winds its way through luxury home capped hills. The course is impeccably groomed, the clubhouse is world class, and the crowds are light.
I got a tee time from Golfhub for about $ 45 on a recent Friday afternoon. The hole designs are imaginative and challenging, but in most cases, very fair. Especially when taking into account how well kept the course is. They do stoop to using a gimmick — in this case a bunker located in the middle of a green. It’s less offensive than some gimmicks I’ve seen, but I wasn’t a fan. They do allow some mind numbingly dumb groups to go out which can muck up the flow of the course. I got stuck behind a pair of senior citizen women walking with a pull cart. They were not low handicappers, and they were not swift. At least force them into a power cart.
For the money, I’m not sure there is a better value in San Diego County (maybe Eagle Crest or Mount Woodson). This is a world class course at municipal prices.

I recently got married at The Golf Club in May of 2011 and it was perfect! The venue is absolutely beautiful and always perfectly manicured. Our experience with The Golf Club was wonderful. The staff was more than friendly and helpful, and their banquet coordinators were extremely attentive. We had an absolute flawless wedding. Wedding planning is tough and it takes a lot of orchestration and organization on the part of the bride and groom and I have to say that the Golf Clubs staff made our experience even more enjoyable and pleasurable. I would (and already have) recommend this venue to future brides and grooms… and golfers! The course is very challenging but fun… just make sure you bring a lot of balls! :)
