I just read a review below of Dr Nissan. It is absolutely unbelievable– in many respects. This person simply cannot be speaking about the man that we know to be extremely well educated — you will not find anyone better schooled and well versed that Najdat. If that were the full extent of his talent, it would not be enough but he is ALSO one of the kindest, most compassionate people I’ve ever known. And I’ve been in many places on this planet.
Did you know that he has personally adopted and cured animals that were brought to him for euthanasia? In some cases he has allowed others to adopt them afterward. He is of the very highest moral standard and his love of animals is absolute, I can hear it in his tone and see it in his eyes.
We had adopted 2 cats, taken them immediately to an unnamed/​different vet who looked them over and pronounced them both to be fine. One of them kept having this kind of smelly breath, a concern stated to the first vet. Months later we made sure she was seen by Dr Nissan who diagnosed her problem within seconds. Oral surgery was required but that cat was hugely better almost immediately, completely healed and completely energetic like a 4 yr old should be.
If there is one gift I have received in life, it is an unusual ability to read my fellow humans on a deeply personal basis. I can tell you that not only would I trust this man with my precious pets but with my wallet as well and my wife feels the same way.
Perhaps there was some mis-​communication involved in these other 2 cases? I will offer the benefit of the doubt. I can say however that Dr Nissan is a man of honor and a superb practitioner veterinary medicine, we would not think of taking our furry buddies anywhere else. Your trust will be rewarded, just look a little deeper, you’ll see.

I took in my ill dog, and I was quoted a price by the vet to get particular tests done. When I picked up my dog at the end of the day, the office staff had left, and the vet gave me my (what I thought was) total cost. I wrote a check as he did not know how to work the credit card machine.
Two days later I returned to pick up medications and was quoted a very high price! After I paid by credit card I found out that it the extra cost were additional fees added on top of what I had already paid for the office visit and tests.
When I disputed the amounts, the receptionist with the colored hair became extremely agitated, asking me to step away from the counter while she looked into it. Finally I left without resolving the issue. When I got home I canceled my check, and then called the office to explain to the above person why I did, and that I would only pay the total of the original cost. Each time I tried to calmly discuss the situation with her, she spoke over me and cut me me off. I finally just hung up.
She then called me back, yelled at me, and then hung up on me.
Dr. Steiner was very helpful and thoughtful, but I would never go back. His own office staff does not even respect him (based on comments the woman at the desk made during her tirades).

DO NOT get your dogs ears cropped here!!. They are supposed to be «known» for doing great ears here but couldn’t be farther from the truth and the cost is ridiculous compared to other places that do a much better job. if you want any other style of ear crop other then the one the vet specializes in the vet will give you a very hard time about it. Doesn’t seem to realize its not about what he likes or wants but its about the costumers preference. brought in reference pictures for him of our last dobermans ears to show him how we wanted it which was a medium cut and he all but blew a gasket telling us he wouldn’t cut the ears like that and they looked terrible even though they were beautifully cut and we received many compliments on her over the years. He apparently likes a more slender look and we had to argue with him to get the bell just slightly larger. After that he was very short with us and left. I guess that should have been a huge warning flag and we should have left but went through with it anyways. the cut was ok but still weren’t satisfied with it. The rack they put on their heads was so cheap and such poor quality the ears fall out after several days and they will not put them back in for you telling you its not the rack that makes them stand but the taping of the ears after they are healed. So their ears had to be floppy for 10 whole days!!. Finally take them in to get their ears tapped/​wrapped and when they come out we were floored at what a poor job and cheap/​poor quality material they used!.Needless to say we will never ever come to this place again! We will be taking our dogs to another place in riverside to get their ears tapped the right way for a fraction of the cost! Don’t waste your time and money here.

I read the reviews prior to taking my dog here, but I had a terrible experience! I had several issues with Dr. Nissan and feel taken advantage of – none with Dr. Steiner though – so you might want to request him. Although, I wrote Dr. Nissan a letter requesting a partial refund and why, he has chosen to ignore me. Here are my issues:
My dog had started urinating in the house while we were on vacation and I wanted to rule out his having a UTI, so I would know whether it was physical or behavioral, which I was pretty sure of. We saw Dr. Steiner, who asked questions and was very personable and agreed it was a good idea to rule-​out though he felt it was also behavioral.
I received a callback and was asked to bring Smoky in for his recheck. For some reason, we met with Dr. Nissan for the recheck instead of Dr. Steiner. We waited a very long wait in the exam room – well over 30 minutes and over an hour from our appointment time. Dr. Nissan was obviously very rushed, did not ask questions, did not even show me the results of Smoky’s urinalysis. Plus, my dog tensed-​up around him.
He said he thought my dog might have a serious infection and even mentioned he thought it might be his pancreas – he basically frightened me although my dog hadn’t appeared sick other than the wetting problem. From what Dr. Nissan said, I felt I had no choice and was pressured to have the blood work done that Dr. Nissan thought necessary. I saw later that he also did x-​rays, though I did not give permission to do so.
Three unnecessary prescriptions later; $ 600 spent on unnecessary tests; and a useless bag of Science Diet (which they insisted my dog needed, but I later returned since he went hungry for 3 days rather than eat it) – I get a call from Dr. Nissan to tell me the «Good news” — my dog is 100% healthy!

I have been bringing my dogs here for the last 4 years! I switched from a Temecula vet because the prices were more reasonable. I have suggested this vet to every friend or acquaintance I have. Both Doctors are very kind, knowledgeable and helpful! The front end staff is always extremely sweet and diligent! I can’t imagine taking my dogs to any other vet! :)

I have never walked into an office and gotten so much hostility from someone whose only job is to have at least decent customer service skills. I have never felt off put leaving a veterinarians office. Not only was she rude but she continued to blame me for something that was out of my control. Unfortunately I don’t recommend this hospital unless you are dealing directly with the vet yourself. If you want some pierced up, tattooed teenage acting middle-​aged woman to treat you like you’re an inconvenience to her perfect day this is the vet for you. Or you like to never get called back about exam results this is your vet.
I wanted to update this review because of how Dr. Val at Alta Mira Animal hospital saved my dog and how Dr. Nissan would have KILLED him if I had listened to the medication he was trying to force my dog to take. Since the switch of a VERY harsh medication my dog needs for epilepsy my dog has had more energy, easier time going to the bathroom, and has had an overall personality change.
Dr. Nissan was trying to force end of life heart medication on my dog whom at the time was only 3 ½ years old! His heart condition mind you was not even in the second stages of development. I brought him to a specialist in San Diego and paid 400 bucks to be told he his fine and healthy and that his condition was much exaggerated! This scares me for pets that are still patients of his now. Be wise when dealing with these CROOKS they may kill your pets just to make another dime. My dog had LIVER damage because of this practice, I would never wish that on any pet. You really are terrible people Avocado Animal Hospital to take advantage of a 25 year old woman and her dog.

I moved to Fallbrook this year and have 5 animals…
My dog Odie, who hated the vets, got really sick and had to stay in the hospital for about a week. When he goes in for rechecks, he is so excited!
EVERYONE in this hospital are extremely professional, thoughtful, cares for the animals and us, very reasonable priced and just plain nice every time I am there.

We where recommend to this vet by a local groomer. We have seen both Dr’s here and they have both been great. My dog had MAJOR itchiness and flea problems. We did everything we could think of to help him, including taking him to 2 other vets before this one. Nothing worked. Finally, we went to the Avacado animal hospital and they were able to give my dog a flea med that actually worked for him, and helped us to figure out that our poor little pup was allergic to the chicken product in his food. They were great with our dog and it’s very easy to make a convenient appointment!

I called the office at 7:30 am to get an appointment for an injured pet and their voice message said to identify myself, phone number and explain why I needed a vet appointment. I followed the instruction thinking someone would call back especially since I have had my dogs treated their several times over the past 10 years. Not hearing back by 2:30 pm I called again and was told they sorry, but they were to busy to return my call. After speaking to them it was obvious they didn’t even listen to the messages or at least mine. When a business acts like this, sorry I find this rude and very unprofessional.

This Vet was reccomended by a local vet because they are one of the few locations in San Diego who conduct ear crops and tapping of cropped ears. SO… off i went.
Now let me say, this place is a drive for me. 30 miles from by home each way, but I took my Schnauzer there and had her ears cropped. They ask for all cash in an elective operation but the Dr. Nissan was very kind and patient with me. I was very nervous about the crop, he put my worries at ease. I picked my up baby that night, i was given a baggie of medications and directions and off i went.
A week later i was back for the check up, all was well. 2 weeks out from the crop i returned for suture removal and a few misc questions. It took them a bit but they fit me in and made time for the Dr. to see me regarding my questions. One of them was whether it was normal for her to urinate in her sleep. She had done it quite a few times and i was concerned. Dr. Nissan took her in for testing immediately and was very kind in his treatment and putting me at ease.
Oh and on the way out, i saw the cutest little dobbie puppy in fresh tapes for his ears! If you need ear cropping, or just good old fashioned loving care for your furry baby. Go here!

I can’t tell you how much I love this place! I’ve been here a few times in the past few months. I always have EXCELLENT service!!!
I went on to update my 10 star approval and quite surprised to see any negative review since newest owner. Most seem positive but some in the past with Dr that is no longer a part of this business.
Maybe BRIAN S is having a bad life. Wouldn’t you just knock it down a star if you thought 1 person was rude to you?
Just wanted to update my review to say what great service I had from Dr Steiner and Tarrah today. They stayed past closing to finish up with me. I know I kept asking many questions and they were so patient to stay past closing time to help me.
Brought one of my pups, two other times for surgeries over the last few months and they fit us in to busy schedule immediately.
Thank you so much Avocado Animal Hospital for all of your great service and great prices over the years.

I have brought my dogs here for years and years! Dr. Charlie Steiner may be the nicest vet anywhere — so caring, and knowledgeable. Dr. Nissan performed life-​saving surgery on one of my dogs with excellent results.

Dr. Nissan is wonderful. He’s caring, loves animals and knows his stuff. I’m glad I found this veterinarian and won’t take my pets anywhere else.
They are a bit on the expensive side, yes, but it’s worth it for the proper care of your pet.

First off let me say I’ve been a member of this vet for a number of years. My dogs rarely have any issues so I do not go to the office much. I find the pricing somewhat fair.
The biggest issue is the attitude from the staff when I go in. The girl with the purple hair is really nice and very informative. The brunette with glasses and also the vet tech with the nose piercing is very rude and looked at me like I was ignorant when I asked her questions on how to take care of the wound after I picked up my pup. I’ve been in a few times where I am completely ignored and feel like I am bothering them.
With this being said I will find somewhere else to bring my dogs and not have to feel like I am a nuisance. Here’s your $ 400 thanks for making me feel like crap.

I called to see how much a cat neuter was. $ 350. Ouch! This is a lot pricier than I’ve ever experienced at a vet before.
I do have to say, though, that Heather, who answered the phone, was extremely courteous and gave me stellar customer service.

My family moved to Fallbrook three weeks ago and we needed to find a local vet who would care as much for our animals as we do. Yesterday, I brought our three dogs to Avocado Animal Hospital for updated vaccinations and for heartworm and flea preventative.
I already love this place for a variety of reasons: it’s less than two miles from home, it’s easy to find, they have plenty of parking, and they offer pet boarding if you’re headed out of town. More importantly, the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The woman working at the front desk, Tarrah, greeted me with a big smile and a «good morning» and (even though it was our very first visit), she still greeted all three of my dogs by name («This must be Major, Penny, and Paisley!). This made me feel right at home and set the right tone for our visit.
After completing the requisite paperwork, we were quickly escorted into a room, where Emily, the vet tech, took my dogs’ vitals and prepped the room for the vet. She was warm and friendly… just the type of person you want taking care of your animals. It’s worth noting that seemingly the vast majority of people in Fallbrook are friendly and welcoming. I’ve lived in communities throughout Southern California for the past 14 years: Long Beach, Irvine, Fullerton, La Mirada, Laguna Niguel, and Rancho Penasquitos. I’ve never found a town that comes even close to the friendliness and quaint charm of Fallbrook. What an absolute GEM of a community! But back to the review…
Dr. Nissan was our veterinarian. Like Tarrah and Emily, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The entire experience was incredibly positive and we look forward to bringing our animals to Avocado Animal Hospital for years to come. Thank you, Tarrah, Emily, and Dr. Nissan for making me feel so welcome and for taking such wonderful care of our four-​legged family members!

i took my pup to get his ears done there… and we absolutely love the job. the stiches are prestine and the crop is show quality. the staff has a very «homey» feeling made me and my pup feel like part of their family. very knowledgable and helpful. i am very glad we chose to come to this place i belive the Dr that we went to was named Dr Nisan.
