With 6 years of math teaching and tutoring experience combined with a Master of Arts in Teaching, Janette Smith uses her excitement for math to help students understand challenging topics and successfully develop their mathematical aptitude. Her tutoring style emphasizes why different mathematical methods are useful and presents numerous strategies so students can develop problem-solving skills that transfer to other subjects. By providing students with choices and creating ownership in their learning process, successful learning outcomes and increased confidence in the subject will be the result.

Smith Tutoring became a formal tutoring business by obtaining a business license from the City of Fairfield in 2014. Janette Smith has been teaching mathematics since 2009 and has been tutoring since 2008. She holds a teaching credential in mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of CA: Irvine.
Janette Smith decided to step out of the classroom after the 2013 – 2014 school year to focus on individual instruction and impacting the lives of students she tutors one-on-one or in small groups. She especially enjoys helping students with Pre-Algebra (5th-7th grade), Algebra, Geometry, & Algebra 2. Additionally, she has training & experpience teaching Common Core Mathematics.

Janette grew up in Concord, CA and enjoyed school from an early age. She remembers playing «school» at home by teaching her younger brother and a neighborhood friend the math she learned from her teacher that day.
Janette graduated from UCLA with honors and summa cum laude and went on to earn her Mathematics Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of CA: Irvine.
She has taught foundational mathematics topics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2. She is especially fond of teaching algebra 1 to students that struggle. She has tutored middle school, high school, & community college students. She also assisted a student with writing their personal statement for college admission into UC Berkeley and the student was accepted.
Janette’s hobbies include dance for fitness, pleasure reading, scrap booking, home decorating, and games that involve problem solving and puzzles.
