Went for my son’s birthday and the waiter said they were not able to acknowledge his birthday in anyway. He is 4 and all he wanted was for them to sing to him. What family-friendly restaurant refuses to acknowledge birthdays??? Afterwards we asked to order something to go and they also told me that they were not able to do that for us. Having been customers for over 20 years we were really disappointed by the guest experience. I regret choosing Jose Tejas to celebrate such a special day.

I LOVETHISPLACE! The food is inexpensive and really delicious. My family and I go here at least twice a month. The service is always solid. If you want to eat 6−8p on Friday or Saturday plan on waiting, it’s usually a 45 minute wait, but it’s worth it. JOSERICE!

Jose Tejas is on of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. These are the foods that I highly recommend trying: 1. Pastelitos(appetizer) 2. Chicken fajitas(blackened if you prefer spicy food) 3. Soft tacos with marinated chicken(my personal favorite) 4. Swordfish tacos 5. Jambalaya, cornbread 6. Strawberry margaritas 7. Lemonade

Everything here is delicious. Great margaritas, fajitas, and quesadillas. They give you chips with your meal, which go great with a drink. Especially if you have to wait, since it can get crowded. Prices are reasonable too!

I love their tejas chicken and margaritas. Cant go wrong with a lot of stuff on the menu as long as you understand youre at jose tejas and not some high end authentic mexican or tex mex joint. Not to knock on the quality, bc its actually good stuff, but you know what i mean.

Great casual dining spot if you’re in the mood for Mexican food. I’ve eaten here numerous times and have few complaints. The free chips and salsa are a great way to take the edge off your appetite. On our most recent trip we ordered the chicken and pulled beef burros, steak fajitas and some margaritas. Our food was well prepared, tasty and had decent portions. The rice and bean dishes were modified to accommodate a dietary need without any problem. Our orders were accurate and served in a timely manner. Our server was particularly friendly and professional. Prices are mid-range and reasonable. Minor complaints: –our margaritas were on the weak side –it can be very noisy, and difficult to hold a conversation However, on the flip side there is a fun, festive atmosphere, if that’s what you’re going for. Look forward to going back.

Every damn time I come here I leave happy and full! The chips are always hot and salty and served with good salsa along side Crystals hot sauce. Put that along side a nice cold Lone Star and I’m happy already. I started off with a cup of gumbo and was so mad after the first spoon! Why didn’t I order a bowl… Thick, spicy and loaded with meat. Perfect bowl to warm me up on a cold day like today. For the main I ordered the Catfish New Orleans. The piece of catfish was HUGE, and was coated with cornmeal and cooked to crunchy perfection. They smothered the catfish in a creamy basil cream with baby shrimps. Along side the fish is jambalaya, which tasted awesome! Spicy, loaded with meat and not mushy! Service is quick, and prices are cheap. I always forget about this place but should be here once a week!

My husband loves Jose’s for 1. the fajitas and 2. the large glasses for water/soda. Overall it’s an interesting place. It’s Always packed and always a wait, which isn’t bad, just be prepared! I change up my meal, but as stated, my husband always has the fajita, which are good. He gets more cheese than usual and says to hold the other condiments. This time, the waitress brought a lot of cheese and he was very happy. The atmosphere is fun and love the western/rock music playing — think Roy Orbison, Guy Whitman, etc. Just be sure you’re prepared to wait, but you can get chips and salsa as you wait. The portions are great and they never rush you out. Food is always hot! We were going to go on Christmas Eve, but we called first, which was good because they closed at 5. Nice to see that they care about their employees.

I had the chimichurri steak… it was super gross. The brown stuff they had was not chimichurri… The steak was dry and burned a little. Our waitress looked like she was ready to get off(no judgement, I bet she was tired)… But not coming back… My friend had the steak and chicken fajita… she said they were over seasoned and dry.

I ate here once before and remember it was okay but either it’s gone down in quality or my expectations have risen. The atmosphere is the best part it really does feel like you’re in Texas from the music to the decorations. Our waiter was clumsy to put it nicely– he spilled water on me/not a lot but any amount isn’t a good sign. The food itself was all just okay/chips are way too salty, the drinks left a sour taste in your mouth and the food was closer to burnt. I won’t be coming back.

Ate the catfish fajita, which was very good– topped with mango salsa and onions. It came still sizzling on the platter, but I would recommend taking it off the hot plate quickly because the pieces we left there longer burned a little bit. Also tried the burro, which wasn’t as good– too salty for my taste.

I used to frequent the one in Woodbridge, but the lines were always outrageous, so I found another Tex Mex place in Englishtown, where we never experience a wait, and the food is comparable. I happened to be staying overnight in Clifton, so when I saw that Jose Tejas was close by, I decided to give this location a try. It was a Friday night around 5:30PM, so I thought for sure there would be a wait. Surprisingly, not a long wait at all-we were seated within fifteen minutes or so. The food is the same quality as the one in Woodbridge(excellent), the prices are unbeatable for what you get, and the staff were all pleasant and attentive. Would definitely recommend you go here.

I Love This Spot!!! Came here for work training for 4 days and stopped by Jose Tejas 2x!!! Delicious, mouthwatering food with such awesome price? Who can beat that!!! Omg! Mexican Cajun Food Heaven!!! My recommendations: Complimentary chips and salsa — this is so addicting that it’s reason enough to come here! — Shrimp and crawfish a Salad — get it or regret it! One of the best Ceaser Salads you will ever have!!! Be prepared to share though, this baby is huge! — Cajun Popcorn Shrimp — Winner! Winner! Winner!!! Need I say more? — Blackened Chicken Fingers — Yes Baby!!! This stuff is good!!! — Pastelitos — I think that’s how you spell it… anyhow small bits of dough filled with shredded chicken and served with a green chimichurri sauce… yum!!! Get it! — Cajun Catfish — although good, I felt the breeding was a bit too heavy and salty, I’d want to try the grilled catfish next time! — Flank Steak — plenty and delicious steak! This is one of my favorites! — Steak fajitas — on point and authentic! I wish this place was a chain, because it’s damn good!!! Trust me, make the drive out here, your tummy and mouth with thank you!

I arrived with a party of 3 on a Saturday night with an expected wait time of 30 minutes. No problem, it was a girls night out so chatting and catching up made the time breeze by quickly. We were seated next to the window and from there everything else went downhill. We had lovely ants crawling on our table and underneath our feet. Our napkins were all dirty and requested new ones. I wanted a nice classic nacho grande, did they have that? Nope! But your a Mexican restaurant. right? We started with the guacamole appetizer, that was probably the worst I’ve ever had. No flavor, no spice, just pointless. So I opted for a tostada steak salad. Where do I start? Besides the steak being tender, nothing else seemed remotely edible. Lettuce was brown, mushrooms were raw, tostada shell was stale, just an overall disappointment. Service was descent, nothing really to write about. You definitely get what you pay for, it’s cheap quality food that you taste within the first bite. Go to Chevy’s for cheap Mexican food, trust me!

Jose Tejas deserves 5 stars because its a cheap, delicious and fun place to eat. They serve super tasty margaritas. Amazing queso dip. Mouthwatering tacos/enchiladas. The prices are dirt cheap. I love the Mexican atmosphere with colorful lights and western style music. Note: It gets REALLY crowded, especially with families. They do not serve dessert.
