The Ridgewood by Windsor

Every great emperor from the beginning of time has had his palace. his home, his temple, his relaxation abode; and all of these are encompassed by The Ridgewood by Windsor. There is truly no better place to live on Ridge Top Rd. NAY! Fairfax city. NAY! Fairfax county. NAY! Northern Virginia. NAY! Virginia. NAY! The Eastern Sea Board of America. NAY! America. NAY! North America. NAY! Both Americas. NAY! THE WORLD!!! You get the picture… I am going on to my third lease at The Ridgewood by Windsor and am loving every minute of it. I am in my second apartment here; and they are both wonderful and truly express myself. Because you see, thats what The Ridgewood by Windsor allows. They allow you to express yourself, show your true self, your true spirit. There’s pools, gyms, business centers. Yes of all an office. Oh, but don’t let that name fool you. It should be called THE OFFICE. There is truly no better people. God gave us 5 of his little angels to guard over us, as they guard over The Ridgewood by Windsor. anything you can dream of these girls, and Ben, can do. And don’t even get me started not he maintenance personnel, or as I call them the Maintenance Ninjas, because they are so gosh darn quick. Not just quick but skilled in everything that is possible. If I could bear a son i would wish him to be half the man Ben is. And if i were to have a daughter is she was ¹⁄₁₀₀^th of the woman the women in the office are i know I’d have the nicest, most professional, fun daughter ever. There we have it. The most honest review a person could give.

Extremely noisy, outrageous utilities, and dead pests throughout property. I complained to management about all of the following: $ 160 vet visit for my dog eating ant traps placed in my apartment without my knowledge, mice were in my ceiling, and there were dead mice in the courtyard. One of my neighbors mentioned that their apartment opened up to the courtyard and they would get rats on their patio. It is not worth the rent for the poor insulation and noisiness alone. The cleaning staff would vacuum outside my door at 8am every morning. The neighbors were not conscious of apartments being by the communal areas and would have loud music or movies blaring with the doors open. Parents also permit their children to run and ride scooters in the halls.
The communication with the staff members is also incredibly inconsistent which was my main complaint. One person will tell you one thing, and the next week they deny it entirely. I even had staff member boast about how they took it upon themselves to pay the gas bill after move out and that «Once you move out, ignore any Minol bill you get. We take care of that for you». I had an issue with my dog ripping up some carpet which would have needed patching/​replacement in two rooms, but since they did not carry the carpet anymore, I would have to replace the entire apartment’s carpet. While upset with that explanation, she once again made a statement about the Minol bill being covered. I come to find out that she meant they take it out of your security deposit.
The first week of my move in, I could not get anyone to answer my phone calls or emails, and had to physically go to the office to get my lease. That should have been a sign, however I was wrapped up in the «luxury» aspect of this apartment as the kitchen, bathrooms and storage are truly great.
The first year I lived here, I referred a friend and he decided to rent in Phase II. That winter, he was forced to evacuate many times in the middle of the night due to fire alarms. He was extremely unhappy with the raving review I had given this property. Unfortunately, I came to realize the validity of his complaints when I went 3+ months with heat that did not work, and then an A/​C unit that had frozen over twice during my tenure.

I have been living at the Ridgewood by Windsor since November 2015 and thus far I have nothing but great things to say! Move in was very easy – Ben kept my roommate and I in the loop at all times and gave us advice to make move in go as smoothly as possible. The apartment itself has excellent finishes and the building is always extremely clean! Also, it’s worth saying that the gym is excellent for an apartment complex gym (very clean and variety of types of equipment).
A huge pro is the feeling throughout the community (which I know other people have commented on, too). Neighbors are very friendly and always say hello (which can be rare in NoVA area), and the staff frequently has events to enhance the community feel.
Customer service is the biggie, though. There are apartments at every corner throughout the DC metro that offer the nice finishes as mentioned earlier – but not every complex offers the level of service that the Ridgewood does. I recently had an issue (not related to the apartment) and Katie, the manager, was extremely emphatic and resolved the issue for me. After living at several apartment complexes, I can say not everyone offers that level of service. That, alone, is enough to keep me around the Ridgewood! :) Thanks for the wonderful service and beautiful apartment!

Pros:
— Staff is amazing! They are responsive, caring, and efficient. I usually communicated with Maura (assistant property manager and Katherine (property manager). They have been exceptional.
— Amenities and apartments have very nice finishes
— Building is always clean
— Community feel
— Great resident events
— Visitor parking is very simple and tons of parking available
— Communication from management office
Cons:
— Apartment is pretty quiet in my opinion, but you can definitely hear if someone blasts their music or turns on the TV too loud. That’s usually at any newer property. From my experience, fastest way to resolve that is to just knock on your neighbor’s door.
— I read somewhere that fire alarms are constantly going off. There was only one testing in my whole time here and it was communicated.

I’ve been renting here for 4 months and am completely in love. The leasing staff is always friendly when I stop in, maintenance has always been there when I needed them (and quickly!), and the amenities are great! I can honestly say I love coming home because this complex has been so great!
I haven’t had noise like the others reviews. We have people who live above us who we can hear once in a while… but it’s an apartment complex. I expect nothing less than some noise! I mean, get a single family home if you are that sensitive.
Definitely worth renting here. Plus, free coffee! Did you hear me? FREE coffee!!! Gotta love that perk!

The biggest issue is the noisiness here. Fire alarms going off at random times seem to be normal. Throughout the winter the alarms would go off in the dead of night when most people were probably asleep. It’s quite frightening to be disturbed from a deep sleep by the sound of blaring alarms at 2am. Alarms have also gone off during the summer so it seems to be a problem in general and not just during the colder months.
People who live above others can be obnoxiously loud especially if they have children. Other residents I’ve spoken to have mentioned how miserable they are living under others due to how poorly the building is constructed. It’s unfortunate that nice looking apartments like these can turn into some sort of hell when all you can focus on is how cheap the building is and all the noise you can hear as a result.
There is only two elevators in this place and one is considered a freight elevator which is laughable because it’s only slightly bigger than the other. Moving large furniture in can be quite a task. Elevators being out of working order happens a lot, if you live on the top floors I can imagine it is very inconvenient.
There are some nice amenities and conveniences and the property is well maintained but for a person like me who values some quiet time once in a while I can’t say the good outweighs the bad.
This may be a good place for younger people and those who are constantly on the go but not for those who actually live in their apartments for normal periods of time. Lower your expectations if you chose to rent here.

I have lived at the Ridgewood by Windsor Phase II building for over a year now and am very happy. The apartment is nice and spacious and the location is fabulous! You are within walking distance of Wegmans and a quick 2 to 5 minute drive from Fairfax Corner and Fair Oaks Mall. The price is high but normal given the area. As I tell my friends and family, I pay for convenience and location. There are retail shops right below my apartment that I frequently visit such as a cleaners, frozen yogurt shop and nail salon.
The team in the leasing office are always pleasant and helpful when I come in. Whether it is a question or to pick up a package, I always feel welcome. They do a fabulous job of hosting community events. In all my years of apartment living, this is the first property where it felt like a community because of the summer pool parties, Thanksgiving pot luck, Christmas Party and many other events.
I have read several complaints regarding what I consider part of apartment life living. It’s not the fault of the leasing or maintenance staff that your neighbors make a lot of noise or let their kids run around the property. What is the leasing office or maintenance team supposed to do about your neighbor’s bad habits? Yes, you can hear your neighbor if they are a heavy walker and if their kids like to jump off furniture, but whose fault is that? I have lived in apartments for over 10 years and have never placed fault on the property management team because of the poor actions of others on the property.
As for the fire alarms, yes they did go off a lot this past winter but for anyone that has lived here as long as I have that is at the fault of the previous building management. They did not properly treat the system so now the pipes are always breaking.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this property to any looking to move to the Fairfax area!

I unfortunately currently live here. When we first checked the apt complex out, my husband and I didnt even bother to look at reviews. Big mistake.
First of all, move in was a mess, literally took so long to have everything done. Okay i get it, it was right before thanksgiving oh well we wont let this first impression kill our vibe of our first place married together. Also our place is a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apt with a too small of a den to even do anything with paying $ 1595
So we moved in in winter time. If the winter is expected to be cold that year i suggest invest in ear muffs ((the kind at gun ranges work great, yes i am serious about this one, but i didnt go buy earphones i just had them and they came in handy heh))
I kid you not the fire alarms went off soo soo soo many times this winter because of broken water pipes. Okay and get this part here is the kicker, one time a water pipe burst and it was in the resident garage over my husband and i brand new escalade and the time that happens the fire alarm didnt go off no email no letting us know, it completely like froze our suv in a ice box. Ice was 2 – 3 inches thick over the handles of the car there was so getting in. So we are livid and go to the leasing office and all of the girls get a dumb look on their face and dont know what to say. One even has the decency to suggest hot water. Are you serious, girl i want to see you carry small amounts of water from our 4^th floor apt to the 2 floor garage that would take useless hours. So we left the leasing office so mad after that. I feel if it was on older couple who went and complained about waterpipe burst over their brand new car, they would of handled it differently but since it was a young married 22 year olds they didnt even take it seriously. So our car was frozen 2 days straight we attempted to get it and ended up chipping our paint and the frozen water sheet on the windshield cracked our windshield. We paid for our vehicle damaged out of our own pocket .
Okay where else, lets see only naming the big stuff, 2 months after moving in my husband and i were blowing our nose and our snot was black. So serious black. So concerned we went to our doctor and we said looks like your breathing in dirty air? That cant make since we were so stumped but doctor suggested get our air filters changed so we put a work order in to do so and the only thing this place is good at they fulfill your work orders really quick and we love the maintenance guys! Air filters were changed holy dirty i see why i was blowing black snot out i was breathing in straight dirty. So did yall not change them since previous resident moved out. I thought that was a part of making an apt move in ready atleast to previous apts it was.
Also we have a Pomeranian who isnt a yapper and is only 6 pounds, we walk him on a seperate dog spot away from everyone (he is a puppy mill dog and will only potty off leash and he personally enjoys running a lap or two and we never take him off leash around people to respect them, and if people come around we grab him and put him on his leash, well apparently thats not okay either cause we got a complaint to keep him on leash. Whatever we dont listen still, ps dont expect to be able to run and play with your dog in the grass, youll ruin your shoes with dog poop, it seems as if the big dog owners dont pick their dog poop up at all, field is covered in human size dog poops its disturbing. We almost wanna say f picking out 6 lbs dog poop up but always do cause knowing our luck someone would complain and to my understanding they fine you for those complaints and ill be damned to pay 250 for not picking my dog poop up.
Oh and residents seem to love not picking up dog poop if its in the hall way. Kid you not had a dog pooped in front of my door in the hall way and no one picked it up, i certainly wasnt thats ridiculous. It sat there till i assume the cleaning lady picked it up.
Theres only 2 elevators in the building one which seems to be broken and down all the time so good luck to those on the complete other half circle side of the apt building (its shaped like an almost closed c)
Our 3^rd floor is the community center where theres the pool the theater and computers. It says no smoking no pets, well no smoking doesnt get taken serious cig butts and hookah shesha everywhere on the grill and tables, not that i mind this part i like hookah im gonna bring mine out there sometime and see if i get a complaint.
Recently we got a noise complaint which i dont see how this is possible the week we got the complaint we were out of town a few days and days we were home we were asleep before 11. So i dont know where this came from. Lastly the residents are not friendly. A few are but i feel like we pass people all the time and say good afternoon or smile or have a good day and everyone gives no eye contact and rushes by. Weird but oh well. We have 7 months left on the lease & debating on leaving

I fell in love with this complex when I toured it. I made the mistake of impulsively leasing here for 1 year. What they don’t tell you on the tour is that the walls are paper thin and that unless you want to pay $ 70 extra per month for reserved parking have fun trying to find a close spot. I can literally hear what television show the person in the apartment above me is watching and am guessing they are professional cloggers because that is what it sounds like they do all night. Oh and the cell phone service is horrible here. Would not suggest to anyone. Especially because it is one of the more expensive complexes in the area. Save yourself the stress and aggravation.

Claims they are a pet friendly community, when every person without a dog in the building complains about any bark they hear. Definitely do not move here if you are looking for a peaceful place to live with large dogs. Eventually left early because neighbors are loud and disrespectful then complain when dogs bark at them, like any normal animal would do at excessive noise. Which then, the community will harasses you about too much noise coming from YOUR unit.
NOT pet friendly, go somewhere else and keep the animals, and yourself, happy.

WORST COMPLEX I’ve ever visited! I’ve written several emails to the front office staff and have never received a response and have had to deal with corporate several times who are also the most unhelpful people I’ve ever worked with. We thought we were going to be moving to VA in the spring so we signed a lease at this complex. Due to a family emergency we were not able to move– we communicated this to both the office staff and corporate office and we were told we still had to pay cancellation fees. We were ok with that but again– we never even stepped foot in the actual apartment, much less moved any furniture in. In the end we had to pay almost $ 7k to break a lease for an apartment we NEVER LIVED IN. The staff was absolutely horrible and not courteous or helpful in the lease. DO NOT LIVE HERE!

The staff in the leasing office are nice, and get to know you by name. They even send you a birthday card on your birthday.
They constantly have community gatherings. For example there was a beer tasting, a potluck, breakfast where Omelette Man came to make you an omelette any way you wanted, etc.
The amenities are wonderful. Pool, theatre room, club house, gym, etc. They even have a fully furnished guest suite that you can rent for $ 100 a night if you have people coming to visit from out of town. Since I rented it for my parents to stay for my wedding the office manager gave me a discount!
The building is kept clean. Every morning I see people cleaning the building to keep it looking nice and new.
Maintenance is fast and courteous.
Overall my neighbors are friendly, quiet, and courteous. People pick up after their dogs regularly. Or at least since there are people that clean the building on a daily basis someone is picking up the dog feces so that you don’t see it.
I love that the parking garage is gated and that the building is locked at all times. This way you don’t have strange people wandering around the building. The only thing I dislike about the parking is that you only get one space for free with your apartment. In this day in age, who has only one car per family? So you have to pay $ 40 extra for an additional space per month.
Overall this is a great place to live. I highly recommend these apartments. This is the best experience I have had as a renter.

I am about to leave this complex due to a change in schools. But my short time here has been OUTSTANDING! The management is the best I have ever seen. They actually care to learn your name and really want to help you out. They are all sweet and nice.
The appliances are nice. The cleanliness of the apartment upon move in was astonishing. I have never moved into an apartment this clean. The granite countertops are nice and the sinks are great because they have one side that is extra big.
It is a very nice community here, and the management does a good job at keeping it up. People respect the quiet times and aren’t really that noisy in the first place.
The maintenance staff is great. They are always kind and helpful. There is always someone cleaning too!
The location in Fairfax is nice. Your closest grocery store is Wegmans, and it is nice. Surrounding area is nice too. There is a nature trail not too far as well.
The complex is very large, so it is a pain to go get the mail, or go to the office.
The walls are very very thin. This is the ONLY reason I give this place 4 stars and not 5.
Parking is not bad in terms of finding a good spot. But if you live on the 6^th floor, you will have to park on the 5^th floor parking for covered parking. The building, because it is built on a hill, has one side that is a floor taller than the other (if you look at google earth, you will know what i mean). This hasn’t really been a problem for me. but if you think it will be, make sure your apartment is on the west side. but the benefit of being on the 6^th floor is that you get an awesome view!!! Every night you get a gorgeous sunset!
Overall, This place is great, except for the thin walls. If that doesn’t mind you, then go for it! you won’t regret it!

I didn’t live here but someone very close to me did, so I have visited The Ridgewood a bunch of times and here’s what I know:
— It’s expensive to live here, is pet friendly, and cell phone service (especially Verizon) is terrible.
— There are many great amenities, such as the computer room with printer, gym, pool, free coffee in the clubhouse, access to rent the clubhouse, outdoor grill, and a theater room. We used the theater room a bunch of times to watch movies and hang out. We rented the clubhouse once for a private party, only people would still pop in to get free coffee. Not the most private of parties but the clubhouse is lovely and spacious.
— The walls are thin, to the point that you can’t hear your own TV sometimes because your neighbor’s TV is louder.
— Security is extensive here, to the point that it’s annoying. You have to have a key fob to get into every inch of the place — you can even get locked in a stairway if you’re not prepared (trust me, I was stuck once… and since cell phone service sucks, it took awhile to get out of there). Somehow, though, the person I knew who lived there got his car broken into and the staff didn’t want to alarm the other residents, so they didn’t alert anyone. Pretty sketch if you ask me.

We have lived in Apartments in the fairfax corner/​fair oaks area for over 6years now and have never received the service we get here. The original company Whiteco sold the building to Windsor and the new management acclimated to the property and has been GREAT! They are extremely fair and realistic. This is the first time I have had a Landlord (LL) show me they actually care about their tenants.
We started searching when our lease was going to end because 2bdrms and larger are really expensive in this area. When we told the LL what we were doing, what we wanted, and the area costs we found. They responded by getting us into a 2bdrm we wanted and no overlapping in lease payment. We set the wend we wanted to move and then changed it so we could make it to a wedding. We then needed to change the date we move in the week of the move and the maintenance crew got the cleaners in there to get our place ready and they delivered.
We are going on our 3^rd year living here.
Yes — like everywhere else there are loud neighbors but if you can’t tolerate that you need a single family home.
The management here sets themselves apart from the rest because they do CARE. And they understand that if your happy they are happy.
The last 2 places I lived were archstone and penderbrook and both places just acted like car dealerships. You sign the lease, that is what they care about and how they can make money off of you when you move out. They don’t care if your happy when u live there. Yes «they will look into» but when does it work out in your favor? When the Windsor «looks into it» or «tries» to do something for you, they REALLY do!
Also, maintenance is really responsive and respectful. They do not come in in scheduled when your wife is in the shower (penderbrook).

horrible staff. overpriced apartment. staffs aren’t friendly and not willing to help nor discuss the issues. not recommending. expect to pay additional $ 400 – 500 if you happen to be late with your rent.
