The Happy Woof

I went to the Happy Woof for a walk-​in nail clipping, which is listed on their site as being available. I walked into an unfriendly attendant. I asked if the groomers could clip my dogs nails… her response «The groomers aren’t doing that at this time». No other explanation. If the option isn’t available, why list it on your website? Poor service. I’d go elsewhere.

It’s 105 degrees in DC today, so I’m spending the day eating a rotisserie chicken and writing reviews for every dog wash I’ve ever been to. This is the last one, and my favorite of the three (the other two were Muddy Mutt and Fur Get Me Not).
I took my second visit to the Happy Woof this morning when it opened at 8am (Sat). Like my first visit, all three tubs were free and clean. There’s a dedicated parking lot for customers, so you never have to worry about finding a spot or rooting through your purse for quarters to feed the meter. Oh, the simple pleasures of suburbia!
The tubs are like bath tubs with built-​in steps, and plenty of room for my 80 lb German Shepherd, Batman, and a Jolly Ball to boot (see photo). The tubs at Happy Woof are my favorite — you control the water temperature with a single handle control, and the nozzle has all kinds of spray options that are easy to switch. Batman prefers the «shower» option. The nozzle also has a stay button so the water keeps spraying even if you aren’t manually pressing the lever. After experiencing a faulty nozzle at another dog wash, I can say that the ease of use of this design really makes a difference.
There are three tubs at the back of the store, each laid-​out about 10′ apart. Plenty of space for dogs and owners to do their thing. No time limit for a bath, which costs $ 20 (very reasonable).
Staff is friendly and available for assistance, but also will leave you alone while you coo to your dog, elbow-​deep in suds. That’s my kind of people.
A big perk of this place is the store itself, which is far and away the best-​stocked of any groomer/​pet boutique I’ve been to, carrying Honest Kitchen, Bravo, Primal, OC, Stella and Chewy’s, and other raw food brands, each with their own freezer! The owner is really helpful and knows her products. There’s tons of space, and things are well laid-​out. Multiple dogs and a cat were in the store at once, and it was easy keeping our pets apart.
The storefront of the dog wash is better stocked than most stand-​alone pet boutiques, and prices are great. I’ve bought Fromm, Plato, Grandma Lucy’s, Stella and Chewy’s, Bravo, and Primal brand items and found prices to be 5 – 10 percent lower than at comparable pet boutiques in the DC area.
And free parking! I also like how the store holds adoption events and other community service events. Overall, a great small business to support.

The groomer was very lovable to my pup and since It was my first time at their store, I loved being beside my pup the whole time of grooming :)

Very friendly staff, clean and had an impressive selection of foods and other pet items.

Apparently the groomers leave at 3 pm. And they close at 6 pm weekdays, 4 on Sat.
I was super excited to visit this place since I had my lil fur darlin’ in tow. We came in on a Wednesday evening to check out the $ 5 nail trims. It was about 5:45. Apparently they close at 6 pm ( Unilocal listing says 7 pm). The groomers leave at 3 — which is really odd — so they only have morning and afternoon appointments?
Under the realization that we were close to closing, I was in and out in less than 7 min as there really wasn’t a whole lot to browse through and there was no suggestive selling.
The lady behind the counter was borderline rude, even though I was the only person in the store, and had a very cute little chi in tow with me. No acknowledgment when I walked in, no conversation to see what I was looking for, nothing. I would expect this of a younger person, but this lady was in her 30’s (as am I).
Ugh. I wanted to shop and support local. It’s hard to do this when someone barely responds to direct questions.
I bought a chewie and left. I guess I did my shop local duty. Can’t say I’d recommend the place based on my experience.

A friend of mine referred me to this place because a) it’s close to home and b) they clip nails for $ 5! If your dog just needs his/​her nails clipped, you can just walk right in. Hana, their dog groomer, did an excellent job on my dog’s nails.
This place also sells dog food and is similar to Weber’s wherein if you buy 10 bags you get the next one (of the same brand/​weight) for free. They have only a limited stock in store but if they don’t have the brand you need, they can order it for you.
Asides from grooming services, they have an area in the back where you can self-​wash your dog.
I would definitely recommend this place for it’s customer service, convenience (locations/​hours/​walk-​in availability), and services offered.

We love this place! They are very supportive of rescues, they hold LOTS of events, and they carry the best product around! We buy all of our dog food, dog treats and use their doggie spa services!

I have started going to Happy Woof for grooming 2 months ago. I would highly recommend this place. It is open grooming area so you can see your dogs getting groomed. Hanna, the groomer, is very good and my dogs like her a lot. Hillary, the owner, is very knowledgeable on food nutrition and has been a big help on deciding what food is best for the fur babies. The prices are very reasonable. Both Hillary and Hanna are very friendly and accommodating.
