Specialties
I work one-on-one with each individual client, giving every one my personal attention and expertise… my salon atmosphere is calm, friendly, respectful, relaxed and fun!
I specialize in easy-to-care-for haircuts and hair-coloring for men and women and I always try to follow the natural flow of the hair growth and create cuts that frame the face and are flattering to and appropriate for both the client’s face-shape and body type.
Many of my clients enjoy my ‘wash-and-wear’ cuts.
I offer both modern and classic cuts and I can cut with scissors for chunkier, geometric-based styles, (good for fine to medium density hair) to create thickness through the ends… or a razor, (sometimes useful to ‘taper’ thicker hair into layers) and often I use a combination of cutting techniques and tools to get the perfect result.
I welcome the opportunity to help you ‘update’ your cut and /or color.
I also welcome photos, illustrations, magazine clippings or other visual aids which indicate the type of style, length, color or design that you might be interested in achieving.
If you are trying to grow your hair I can help you…
I understand the word ‘trim’…
I am as happy working with long hair as with medium-length and short hair.
My coloring speciality is creating beautiful base colors, gray coverage if necessary and highlights and ‘glazing’ for added tone, dimension and shine.
I also offer rinses for those wishing to simply ‘blend-away’ some gray to turn back the clock…
History
Established in 1992.
Mitchell Field’s salon opened in Fairfax in 1992.
The salon is a compact, 3-chair storefront, situated in the heart of downtown Fairfax, in an historic1950’s building which is clad in the original ‘Vitrolite’, (a black glass) and glass-brick, popular in the Mid-Century.
The original 1950’s cabinetry remains, with a modern, updated décor.
The building is believed to be one of the last remaining Vitrolite-clad buildings in the Bay Area.
Meet the Business Owner
Mitchell F.
Business Owner
In ‘Swinging London’ of the 1960’s, everything one needed to know about hairstyling could be said in two words… Vidal Sassoon…
so that’s where I decided to begin my career.
Before my 15th birthday, I signed on as an apprentice at Sassoon’s original Bond St. salon and before my eighteenth birthday I had become the youngest stylist in the salon’s history.
Vidal was the Godfather of modern hairstyling and he was an absolute perfectionist who passed that along to his trainees.
After 5 years with Mr. Sassoon I decided to branch-out into my own salons, in the 1970’s in Montréal and then during the 1980’s in Los Angeles where I owned and operated two salons named Antenna, where clients included Punks, Mods, New-Wavers, Metalheads, bikers, surfers and many music and media personalities including Billy Idol, Alice Cooper, Adam Ant, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Seinfeld’s ‘Kramer’ (Michael Richards).
In 1992, seeking a calmer lifestyle, I relocated to beautiful downtown Fairfax.
