What a difficult process working with this company. My husband is retired and was able to watch them closely. Still if they don’t show up nothing you can do.

When a friend recommended this company to me, she warned me that they do great work, but that she and her husband practically had to threaten them with a lawyer to get them to start the job even though they had cashed the initial deposit check months before. So, since I am a single woman, she offered her husband to handle the negotiations with them. I turned her down, but I can see why she warned me. I have a $ 250K renovation project to do on my house, but have not been able to get Sonny to come out and start to plan it because he cannot meet before or after work. They cancelled an October appointment the day before, and then he stood me up for the November appointment without even a call to cancel. All this while they know I have deadlines from the bank that is funding the project. I’ve made multiple attempts to adjust my work schedule to accommodate their demands, while other contractors have worked with me to come and scope the project. From the reviews and my friend’s experience, maybe they prefer just doing kitchen projects. All I can say is that I am glad I interviewed other companies and never gave Michael Nash any kind of deposit, because I cannot trust them to value my time or home. Good luck to you if you work with them; they offered only drama and no actual service for me.

So they are doing an addition next door to my home in Arlington! I will post a picture of what it looks like after 2 years! Yes I said two years!

That was over 3 months ago after promise after promise after promise from Martin and finally a personable visit to their showroom!
I thought he would get the message but still no action!
I feel really feel bad for the homeowner
They have left the house open to the elements for months!
They have received multiple stop work orders and the place is just a mess!
The house will be full of mold by the time they finish if they ever do!
They do not correct their mistakes or take responsibility for the damage they cause!
I am now in the process of getting it repaired myself and doing whatever I have to do to collect from them.

If you hire them, watch everything they do like a hawk. They didn’t bother reading the design document so a lot of items were initially missed. They pushed off our start date for four months, often contacting us the day before we were expecting them to let us know it would be another month. The work itself was incredibly sloppy. Patching on the walls was bubbled, tiles were crooked, paint was uneven. The manager was great in making sure everything eventually got fixed to our standards but a 4 week install turned into a 4 month nightmare. Everyone on staff except the manager was horrid to deal with — they talk down to customers, do shoddy work, etc. The men who were in the house had zero respect for our home. They used ALL of our bathrooms regardless of us consistently asking them to use one in particular (which was left a disgusting mess when they were done), they used our kitchen/​microwave to heat their meals, ate in our bedroom, left drinks on antique furniture, walked on our carpets with dirty shoes even though we asked they put plastic down, and the tape they used for the plastic once they did put it down removed the finish on our hardwood floors. We’ll never make that mistake again.

Michael Nash recently completed our Kitchen remodeling project. The kitchen looks gorgeous. We are so happy. Actually before the kitchen finished we had signed up for them to work on our bathroom remodel.
I initially ruled out Michael Nash after receiving a few quotes as their quote was not the lowest. However my husband reminded me not to decide only based on the pricing. While looking into the details of all quotes, I started to realize the designer at Michael Nash is a top-​notch designer and the price is actually the most competitive considering what are included. Sonny, the owner and master designer of the company who came to my house and provided me the proposal is the only designer who proposed a very critical change, a must-​do item which was overlooked by all other designers and would definitely incur thousands of dollars more cost at a later stage if we had proceeded with any other designer.
Michael Nash employees are enthusiastic, patient and always did their best to accommodate my detailed requests, such as the onsite job details of the custom made cabinetry, how the drawers divide into smaller compartments, the exactness of the countertop overhang. I was so picky about even a tiny bit, they took my request absolutely serious. I could go on and on to give many examples.
I did experience a bit frustration at the beginning anxiously waiting to get our project kicked off. But once it started, I quickly got convinced that the waiting is worth it. Our new kitchen now has custom made cabinetry with tons of usability features, the elegant backsplash design brightens up the whole room, and high quality products and materials are used throughout.
Among all things we are happy about, they are extremely flexible to accommodate specific request, never bringing up any additional or hidden cost. I would definitely recommend Michael Nash to anyone who looks to have major remodeling done hassle free.

I found mold in my basement, which turned out to be the dreaded black mold. I contracted an appropriate company to remove the mold, and fix the source of the problem. They did a wonderful job, but it involved tearing down walls and some of the floor of my basement.
I had seen many advertisements for Michael Nash Design in Valpak, Save Now, and possibly Washingtonian. The pictures were promising. I know where their office is, not far from my home, also a bonus.
I needed to replace the walls, add and change the design of a couple of closets, replace the floor of the entire basement, and update the 70’s wiring exposed by the tear down. I estimated the job to be about $ 15 — 17K.
I called Michael Nash Design to make an appointment and was told by the person who answered the phone, my project wasn’t expensive enough.

Hope they have changed management. Biggest nightmare remodel I ever experienced.

We had our kitchen remodeled by Michael Nash and we absolutely love it. In reality, it was more like the entire back half of our house was remodeled — we tore out ceilings, removed a wall, added recessed lighting, installed radiant heat in the floors and tiled out to the foyer. MND was excellent all the way through.
From Sonny’s visit, he worked up some drawings and gave us great advice on scope and cost. Oliver’s design skills are incredible — from colors to textures to materials, he was spot-​on. The workers in the crew were professional and helpful. The quality of the workmanship was very high. Every day I received an update call from Martin to let me know how things were going and to ask for feedback. Truly exceptional customer service from this group.
A project like ours was expensive and time consuming — a lesser contractor would have caused us serious grief but Michael Nash lived up to their reputation! Thank you, Sonny and team — we have an awesome kitchen… more like a «new home»!

Much like Juanita’s experience, I contacted Michael Nash through their website and never head back. After several weeks, I submitted another website request and still never head back so I called. The girl on the phone was clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed as when I gave her may name she insisted she called me back (which she did not).
I was interested in some kitchen work, basement work and home office work, not large jobs, but not simple stuff either (needed design, not just build). The girl on the phone kept calling my need «partial work» and when I explained it is not partial but perhaps smaller in scope than a full renovation she just did not understand that.
They also told me they only do major renovation jobs and that their remodels start at 30K.
I have to agree with the other people who have posted; my first warning should have been that they do not even respond to customer inquiries. It is probably best that I am not working with them because from what I’ve seen and read, it is my opinion that this company is trouble from the get go.

I can say I went to a ton of contractors in the Vienna area to do my due diligence, and I was really happy I went with them. They did a phenomenal job with paint, carpeting and flooring, after my husband and I purchased an older home that was rather worn and in need of some serious TLC. The house feels like a brand new home. They didn’t diddle-​daddle with the start date and they threw in the man power required to complete the job quickly, with minimal pain and inconvenience on our part. I appreciated the design team’s patience and diligence dealing with my indecisiveness, and the project manager frequently checking in on progress/​quality. We couldn’t be happier with the results.

while the end product was pretty good, it cost a lot of money, and the project manager wasnt really available which caused a lot of problems. the timeline also took a lot longer than originally expected.

Overall, I consider the remodel a mild success. The bathroom looks infinitely better than it did before the remodel. With that said, the road to getting there was long and stressful. The start of the project was a fiasco. I contracted Michael Nash in late March 2010 and paid $ 10k almost immediately up front as a deposit. My remodeling team comprised of Martin and Jimmy as what I think were the Project Managers. They said the start date would be early May, maybe June (so it says on my signed work agreement). That turnaround time was acceptable to me. However. then came the delays. but, they were very sneaky about them. People would be scheduled to come out, almost once a month, to go over certain aspects of the remodel. I could not differentiate their job functions since they each performed similar tasks during the appointments at my house. I question whether or not this was a stall tactic. The actual work delayed until late Aug/​Sept. By then, I had already forgotten what I picked as tiles, fixtures, etc, 5 months ago. When I double checked my files, I realized I wanted to get a rectangular sink instead of the listed oval sink. Similar to someone else’s story on here, when I asked Jimmy about changing the sink, he said the lead time for ordering that was 4 – 6 weeks. I said no way and promptly hit the internet. I found the sink at Home Depot and Lowes, in stock, ready for pickup immediately. I conveyed this to Jimmy, who said that they can only order from their suppliers. I said forget it, I’ll provide the sink, and promptly ordered it cheaper at Amazon, tax free, with free 2-​day Prime shipping. Of a $ 16k renovation, how Jimmy couldn’t spend $ 165 on a sink, I don’t get it. Once the work finally started, I was never met by the field supervisor, who remained elusive until the middle of the project. Thankfully, the two guys doing the work were competent, but even competent workers, without supervision and a project plan, run into difficulties. I contracted Michael Nash because I was told the job would be done in 10 – 14 days. This was of the utmost priority to me since I only have ONE bathroom in the house (bungalow in urban area, sigh). Well, the workers decided to wire everything up, then drywall over everything before the County inspectors came. There was absolutely nothing wrong with their drywall work, but of course, they had to take it down for the inspector to check the wiring. Due to some minor changes, this dragged on for 3 days. That’s a long time for a 10 – 14 day project to be standing idle. Needless to say, this turned out to be a 3 week effort. The build quality is good, but after watching so much Holmes on Homes, I know at least half of the work would not be Mike Holmes approved. Perfection is the enemy of good enough, but I do wish the build quality was better. Superficially, everything looks very good, but I know there’s no waterproof membrane, no soundproofing insulation, no grout sealer, no Ditra, and minimal use of green board.

We decided to do a kitchen remodel in our 70’s era townhome. Our house is in decent condition considering it was a track home from the 70s with no major updates but it desperately needed to be redone.
Our issues were this:
1. Space constraints — we did not want to remove any walls but wanted an overhaul of our existing eat in kitchen, downstairs powder room and upstairs hall bath.
2. Budget — we had to stay within a budget for the remodel — duh! We didn’t want to spend an astronomical amount but wanted to make sure that the results were of good quality and design for a reasonable cost.
3. Design — Husband and I had some different ideas on what we wanted. I am able to vision what something will look like, but husband has issues with this. We also needed someone to tell us what works well for potential buyers (as we will eventually sell the house) and what makes sense design– wise.
We met with another contractor as well — both companies told us similar things but Michael Nash was able to give us a better price for the scope of work.
We met with the designer who was able to walk us through the design of the areas in two meetings. He was helpful, PATIENT!, listened to us and let us make our own decisions. (Poor guy, we had chosen cabinets, counter-​top and were picking out flooring when we decided to scrap it all and start over!)
Things we liked the most about Michael Nash: You choose a package and negotiate cost in the beginning. There is no additional hidden fees, upgrade charges, etc. as long as you stay within your package (easy to do). Help from the designer is included at no additional charge. We were assured that the work is turn key — includes everything including paint and fixtures like towel bars so there is no additional work or things that need to be purchased. We were also told that any hidden damage is covered at no additional charge.
The kitchen is now completed with the exception of a few minor details. There was a backlog of jobs that needed to be finished before our kitchen work could begin, however once the project began the workers were here almost everyday for a full work day. In the evening we were contacted by the project manager via telephone — he would explain what would happen the next day. Louis was assigned to our project and did most of our construction. He was very professional, easy to talk to, very experienced and the quality of his work was excellent.
They also fulfilled the promise of turn key service — we found termite damage in some areas of the interior walls and this was replaced with no extra charge. This was a relief for us! Finally, we asked for a few minor changes (changed configuration of laundry alcove, hated the first paint color we chose) and they were willing to make us happy.
