Dr. Joseph P. Smith is the only practitioner in the North Bay with a Diplomate of Applied Kinesiology (the highest certification in the field). This diagnostic tool helps determine three things:

1. Where the problem is

— Symptoms in one area of the body are often times representative of a cause which is remote.

2. What technique will be used to fix it

— This allows Dr. Smith to choose from multiple healing arts with theraputic certainty instead of an educated guess, which often leads to favorable patient outcomes… including chronic otherwise unresponsive cases.

3. If the intervention worked

— Certainty of theraputic outcome can be qualified by Applied Kinesiology assessment follwing intervention to determine whether it is complete

History

Established in 1998.

Atlas Health is an integrative health clinic dedicated to cutting edge, patient-​centered care. Dr. Joseph Smith became clinic director of Lighthouse Wellness Center (now Atlas Health) in 2007. He added the services of in-​house Functional Medicine Laboratory Assessment and the highest level certification in Applied Kinesiology to an already thriving integrative/​patient-​centered practice. It is the only clinic on the west coast that has this combination.

The clinic serves a population base on both coasts and includes NCAA national champions, critically ill patients, and patients looking to get the most out of life. Patients vary in age from less than 1 month to 99 years old. We serve the Bay Area and beyond with offices in Fairfax, CA and San Francisco, CA.

Dr. Joseph P. Smith has gone to great lengths to create an integrative health clinic that offers a unique combination of cutting edge, advanced assessment tools, as well as therapies from several of the healing arts. He is the youngest American to receive a Diplomate in Applied Kinesiology and Board Certified Teaching Status within the organization. The latter qualifies him to teach other doctors and healing professionals Applied Kinesiology. The former is the highest certification in Applied Kinesiology. He is the only Diplomate between San Francisco and Portland. He currently is on USA chapter board of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK) and is on the ICAK International Board of Examiners. He is committed to finding the cause of your problem, or finding somebody that can if he is unable.

Two visits in and I am a true believer.
Dr. Smith is an incredible find as a healer. Focused, enthusiastic, and fascinated by the human body and brain… the vast degree to which this man goes to better one’s life is immeasurable.
In my first visit, what struck me was the depth and detail of his consultation. Communicative and clear, patient and empathetic, he left no stone unturned as he got to know my brain and body’s struggles.
After the first visit, he already significantly reduced my anxiety which had gone untreated and uncontrolled for nearly 10 years.
In my second visit, he’d already gotten a much clearer grasp on what my body was going through and what we could do to begin improving it. His interest in solving a body’s riddles is so comforting… he clearly wants to find the source of a problem and not just stick a band-​aid on it.
If I had to have a complaint about Dr. Smith, it’s that he’s so informative and so involved that I find myself wanting to discuss this stuff with him for hours. Such a great source of knowledge topped off with wonderful bedside manner. I am so grateful for having been referred to him. I would highly recommend him for anybody. He might not be able to solve all of your problems, but he can certainly shed light on the path to healing.

I am so grateful to have found Dr. Smith. As an athlete who likes to push my body to the limits and a career which compromises my neck and back I have been «fixed» by Dr. Smith many times. I am still amazed at how the partial tear in my hamstring has now been flawless for the past two years and how after moving one weekend and suffering from excruciating shoulder pain I walked out of Dr. Smith’s office completely carefree. I don’t understand all the techniques and modalities he employes but they absolutely work. He is thorough, attentive and entirely dedicated to helping you feel your best. Dr. Smith is truly a rare find. He is a skilled problem-​solver, a trusted adviser, and a gifted educator, inspiring and supporting lasting change in his patients. He helped me understand and resolve some long-​term health issues that had other practitioners stumped. He’s helped me solve both nutritional and structural issues.
Dr. Smith has a powerful skillset including chiropractic, Applied Kinesiology, naturopathy, and traditional Chinese medicine. He is one of the countries foremost experts in Applied Kinesiology a modality that lets him determine which treatments will do the greatest good to your system. Dr. Smith, in my opinion, is one of the best Doctors in the world. His attention to detail combined with his passion to finding the root cause of dysfunction sets him apart from all others. I have a long history of health problems varying from PMS, Kidney issues, Hypoglycemia, Parasites, Yeast Fungus, Leaky Gut Syndrome and Carpel Tunnel. In his treatments, Dr. Smith works with body on a chemical, physical and emotion level. With this approach, not only was Dr. Smith able to significantly help me with ALL my current health problems but also with imbalances in my body that might have created future problems if left unchanged. I owe my good health and better quality of life to Dr. Smith for helping me heal myself without drugs or surgery. I believe with the right attitude and tools, the body can heal itself from just about anything. Dr. Smith is the Doctor that can find out what each individual body needs for optimum healing. Dr. Smith is extremely knowledgeable and patient, taking time to understand your background, determine the root cause of the issue, and then explain his approach to remedying it.
I had neck pain and impaired mobility for weeks. He adjusted me and applied various Applied Kinesiology techniques. I recall he pressed somewhere on my shin– and surprisingly it was sore there. Post treatment, I felt 100% better and have not had that issue since. Amazing.
He also brought awareness of the impact/​influence of specific food on the body. I have suffered from terrible headaches my whole life and have seen many specialists/​allergists/​ENTs in an effort to figure out the cause, with no success. Dr. Smith had me closely monitor what I ate and I discovered a correlation with drinking milk and getting a headache. I had no idea all these years. I now drink milk substitutes [rice milk, almond milk]– and it has made all the difference.
Dr. Smith has devoted his life to improving the health and well-​being of his patients. I highly recommend him and only wish he would open a second office in SF!

Dr. Smith is brilliant. He is a Board Licensed Chiropractor and Certified in Applied Kinesiology but includes other therapies in his practice like Homeopathy, Chinese Medicine, Cranial Sacral, Neuro Emotional Technique, as needed. He is young, really smart and fast at figuring out how to help you. I went to him for chiropracitc therapy and got so much more. I also learned I had glutton and dairy allergies that explained a lot of my problems. I feel better than I have in years. The guy has over 400 hours of post grad Applied Kinesiology. He is a runner and is great with athletes. He has integrity and is just a great doc — whatever your problem, you could start with him and then move out to tradiitional medical, if needed.
