We got quotes from 5 moving companies, and chose Allied/Coleman for our cross-country move because of its great price guarantee and supposedly reliable reputation. On our move day, the driver loaded half of our items on the truck, and then called the Allied/Coleman agent because we used small recycled boxes for the move instead of large ones(totaling to more«items» but the same amount of goods to move). The relocation consultant, Larry Corley, who did our initial inventory, returned to our apartment and doubled the price of our move(from ~$ 5,000 to ~$ 10,000 for a one bedroom apartment). He stated that we had more items than when he did the initial inventory. In fact, we had actually donated several items and had less to move overall. Larry was well aware that we were going out of the country the next day and had to move our things on that particular day. He strongarmed us, saying«you have 10 minutes to make a decision before we unload the truck and you can find another moving company that will charge you 3x-4x for a same day move, if you can even find one.» We later found out that this is a common scam Larry and his General Manager at Coleman are known for. Larry quotes low prices initially as a guarantee to bait customers, and then changes the price on the move day when most people have no choice but to pay the higher price. It took the movers from 9:30am-7pm to move a one bedroom apartment, and they would disappear for several hours at a time with no explanation. Many of our things arrived damaged. We tried working with Allied to get our money back after the fact, but they stopped responding to our case. Our advice: find another company. This one is a scam.

Don’t be fooled by claims this company cares about receiving 5-STAR customer satisfaction! Once my move was completed, they didn’t even bother following up with a survey. That’s probably because they already knew how dissatisfied I was as their customer. Moving is probably one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. Especially if you’re moving several states away. Once I signed the paperwork to become a customer, every time I contacted Coleman American with a question or an issue, they never followed up — as promised — with an answer or a call from a Supervisor. Worst of all, 18 days after they loaded my furniture, I was supposed to receive a call 24 hours prior to delivery. That never happened. I had to track down my move representative and then try to reach out to the driver. My delivery came outside of the promised delivery period. To apologize the company gave me a $ 50.00 credit, which didn’t make up for having to take additional days off of work to wait on the truck. Moving across country? Go with Mayflower or another company instead of Allied!

I didn’t end up using this mover(we had a better offer from another mover), but was very pleased with the process of getting an estimate. The person who came to look at what we had to move and give us an estimate. She was very professional and clear with the contract. She was also nice to our dogs, so she got points for that.

Movers were super slow. When my things arrived almost every box was damaged. My washer had a huge dent. It looked liked they had thrown my things around seriously. I only moved 250 miles. I have moved over 11 times in my life and this was such a negative experience.

ZEROSTARRATING! We used Coleman Allied and regret ever letting them set foot into our home. Here are the facts regarding our experience in DEC2011: 1) The estimate ended up going FIVEHOURS over and costing an ADDITIONAL $ 600-plus. 2) The movers were unprofessional, broke items, showed up without a toolbox(we had to unpack our toolbox and find an allen wrench for them to disassemble a bed) 3) We were initially charged $ 200-$ 300 for mirror cartons and a mattress box that the movers never brought with them but they tried to slip the charges for them into the final bill until we noticed and called the manager at the office asking they remove the false charges. 4) They moved our $ 2000 king size mattress without a covering dirtying it. 4) The movers lost the elevator key and that cost us $ 25 out of pocket to our HOA to replace it. 5) After telling me they would remove any empty cartons we wanted them to take, the driver suddenly changed his mind and charged me $ 50 to remove the unpacked cartons from our destination. 6) Took the movers 12 hours to move 1 bedroom set, 1 dining table w/5 chairs and a buffet, 1 living room set and boxes and incidentals. Take off the one-hour drive from destination #1 to #2 and we feel we were taken total advantage of by this unprofessional crew. GOWITH A «NOTTOEXCEED» ESTIMATE!!! not with an OPENCONTRACT from a company like this. We learned our lesson the hard way. This is one time we didn’t and we got burned. Hope this helps you make an important decision at a time when there is enough stress involved with a move. If there were a ZERO rating, I would have given it to them. If you see these guys coming for an estimate. LOCKTHEDOORSANDRUNINTHEOPPOSITEDIRECTION.
