Great selection of coffees, flavored coffees, smoothies, baked goods, and light fare. Right off the route down to the obx and other beaches! Great for kids and families. Very friendly staff.

Don’t expect a full on bakery. Very friendly servers behind the counter, but offerings consisted mostly of muffins. Is there such a thing as a muffinery? Coffee was good, and somewhat local, I think, but this is not a full bakery nor breakfast place, more of a quick snack before getting back on the road. My daughter liked the duck cookie we brought her. Seem to have nice looking cupcakes as well, but those appeared to be pre-order only.

As I walk in, I am greeted by a smiley face welcoming me in to the Yellow Duck Bakery. Fresh hot pretzels! He says… Asks me if I have been there before & where I’m traveling to. I’m ‘ducky’ enough to get a taste of this amazing buttery savory pretzel… Yes, I ended up buying 2 more. I got the Orange/cranberry muffin and my friend for the strawberry/peach cobbler. Both had amazing flavor… Moist and warm, accompanied by espresso. The best part of all of it was the welcoming of our patronage and the sincere kindness from the owner/baker. Thank you for a wonderful muffin and smile.

It was the perfect place to stop on our road trip back to Massachusetts. The muffins were good but the Reese’s quack cup was amazing! The owner was so nice and great to talk to!

The road from Newport News to Philly along Rt. 13 can feel long and rather dull unless it is sprinkled with great places to stop for a break. The Exmore, Va. area has a number of those worthy of a stop. Yellow Duck Bakery Café sits on Main Street in the heart of old Exmore, just off the main highway. From the south, look for a yellow duck sitting high on the façade of a brightly yellow painted wood frame building. There is a small parking lot in back, but take your time going up the narrow driveway between the buildings to protect your car’s suspension. The place is bright and airy, and has the feel of being in a time warp. The dust floats and dances in the sunbeams coming through the large windows, forcing the mind to slow down and breathe easy. I have stopped here three times since discovering it last year. The creaky floorboards and excellent java combined with the excellence of the pasty chef makes this a great place to chill for a while before getting back on the road. The muffins and lemon bars are amazingly fresh and palate pleasing, and the locally roasted coffee demands at least one refill, if not another for the road. Try not to rush out of Yellow Duck, as allowing its magical ambiance to filter into your awareness is at least half of its hidden treasure. PS. There are more reviews @ Yellow Duck Café Bakery.

Fantastic. A highlight from my drive through the Eastern Shore route from Norfolk, VA to Philadelphia. They are known for their gourmet muffins, many of which are sold out from loyal customers by mid-day.I sampled four, the pumpkin cheesecake, caramel apple, banana nut, and mocha toffee. They were all amazing – though the the mocha toffee pushed the boundaries from«muffin» to cupcake… it was more suitable with vanilla ice cream after dinner than with breakfast in the morning. Their coffee is excellent. Their bold roast is made for them; it is full bodied without bitterness. I highly recommend stopping; it will add only 5 minutes to your commute if you take exit Highway 13 for 13 Business through Exmore. Well worth it! Check out my photo of our 2 year old enjoying a caramel apple muffin for breakfast!

Great little café. Had a wonderful blueberry muffin and coffee and then a meatball sub for lunch. They have wifi and didn’t mind me hanging out half the day working. The owner is really sweet and the place is so cute and welcoming.

I stopped here off the highway to get something to drink while traveling to New York, and I loved it. We had an amazing healthy banana raisin muffin with cinnamon and pecans that me and my boyfriend split after which he said, «I wish we had bought two.» I had a great cup of tea and my boyfriend said the coffee was great. It was only 5 minute detour and totally worth it.

I ventured into this bakery for the first time a few days ago to pick up a cake that a co-worker had ordered. I have had their cakes before and I’m sure i’ve hoovered a muffin or 2 from them that made their way into the office. I don’t have a real sweet tooth so I’m going to say that by retail baked goods standards they are good, above grocery store and«packaged brownies or Tastycake» standards as some«thru here» tourist so eloquently put it in their earlier review. Now, having said that, I am what locals so lovingly refer to as a «Come Here»…a charming way of saying I’m imported, not local. So I have been to bakeries a plenty in towns big and small and can say that The Yellow Duck would not be considered a contender for larger bakeries located in places such as Philly, New York, etc. But… so what. As the locals would say…“if that’s what you’re looking for then the bridge that brung ya here will take you back”. This bakery is more that suitable for the Eastern Shore. It offers quality goods that the locals want and need. The only«negatives» I would have are as follows: First, parking is not great. It is, however, typical of «Main Street» parking that I suppose one would expect. Second, the place is very very very small and in need of a serious structural facelift(those front doors are terrible). Third, their lunch options are very limited. Only 1 thing offered on the menu for lunch each day so it had better be what you want. More options would be nice and the price was a tiny bit steep for just a sandwich($ 5.44 for a small meatball sub) without chips or fries. All in all it is a nice local establishment. And if sweets are your vice then the Yellow Duck will certainly have something that satisfies you.

Was driving back to NYC from Nags Head NC and found this little bakery on the way. The service was out of this world, made my day. Very cheerful place I would visit every morning if I lived near. Muffins were delicious and the coffee woke me up. Thanks Yellow Duck.

Best bakery on the Eastern Shore. May I recommend to all, the chocolate zucchini muffins? All muffins are win win. Reasonable price, great service. Kudos.

Overall: Very cute little place; outstanding muffins; good coffee; good sugar(short-bread?) cookies. Lemon Something: Outstanding. I really expected this to be super-sweet, but oh man no no no. They got it just right, just the right balance between the sweetness and the lemon-ness, with soft great tasting dough on top and bottom. And it was just beautifully cooked too. The very tops of the dough’s little mounds were a golden brown, but nothing was overdone. I never had anything like it. Apple-caramel muffin: Outstanding. There was some sort of caramel glaze on the top — definitely not like icing on a cupcake, but more like the glaze on a, well, a glazed donut. The rest of the muffin was slightly sweetened, and just the right amount of moist. Too good. Orange-cranberry muffin: Outstanding. Again, just the right amount of moist, not greasy at all, perfectly cooked, and could taste the orange and cranberry both. Yellow Duck Cookie: Outstanding. Very(and appropriately) sweet icing on top of a somewhat(and appropriately) dry and sweet cookie. These rival the cookies at the Firehook cafes in Alexandria VA. Coffee: Great. They use the locally roasted coffee from the Eastern Shore Coastal Roasting Co. It tasted very fresh. Super cute place for kids too. They have some little play things set out, and they yellow duck theme is something little kids will love. My wife and I got a half-dozen muffins to go. You can freeze them. :)

With a blueberry, a maple walnut, an Amish friendship, a lemon poppy seed, and a pumpkin cream cheese muffin packed into a sturdy white box, I knew I’d bought an adequate 3-day weekend taste sampling from Yellow Duck Café Bakery. Staying on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in the off-season limits food options but now I had my emergency rations. Just to be safe, I also picked up a lemon bar, an almond cookie and some coffee. I enjoyed the lemon bar in the car with their delicious coffee. That bar was fifteen square inches of lemony joy. A crispy crust topped with perfect lemon filling and a dusting of powdered sugar. Wish I had another one right now. With the muffins, I’ll summarize this review by saying each of these muffins was the best of that muffin I’ve ever had! They were moist, full of flavor, generous with relevant ingredients(walnuts, blueberries, etc.) and just made me happy I’d found the Yellow Duck. I especially loved the maple walnut and blueberry. They had the perfect muffin tops that every muffin-lover enjoys. I’m anxious to come back for another trip and know I’ll be returning to Yellow Duck.
