Established in 2006.

Michael A. McMann, M.D., the Medical Director of the McMann Eye Institute, has advanced fellowship training and experience in the surgical and medical management of corneal diseases, as well as LASIK refractive eye surgery.

His various accolades include:

* Performed the first Implantable Minature Telescope (IMT) surgery in Hawaii at The Queen’s Medical Center

* Performed the first Corneal Transplant at the Hawaii Medical Center.

* Performed the first Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) procedure at Tripler Army Medical Center.

A graduate of the University of Chicago– Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. McMann completed Refractive Surgery and Corneal Disease Fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. McMann is board-​certified and has been practicing ophthalmology for more than 10 years. Dr. McMann is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Corneal & Refractive Surgery, Hawaii Medical Association, Hawaii Ophthalmology Society, Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii and International Society of Refractive Surgery.

The staff are great there but the wait times are not acceptable. my appointment was 330pm and I didn’t get to see the doctor till 420pm. The client should wait no more than 20 minutes unless the receptionist informs the client for the reason of the delay. Had I known I would have showed up 30 minutes late. That aside the professional care given is unparalleled, the care given felt family oriented. I highly recommend LASIK here, but plan your day ahead as wait times can be a issue.

I never thought I’d be pleased at an eye appointment. The staff are very professional, personable, helpful, and made me feel like I was a client for many years (although this was my very first visit). I would definitely recommend this office to friends, family, and strangers. I love how the workers are pleasant and seem to really love their job! That shows that they have great management and structure in their facility!

I just got my lasik done with Dr. McMann and I love it! from the very beginning when I first contacted them up until today (day after surgery) they have been so helpful, responsive, konwledgeable, caring and trusting. I actually contacted a Honolulu office and waited a week but no one called me or emailed me back so I found Dr. Mcmann which worked out better for me since I live in Ewa. They called me right away to set up my consultation, advised over the phone he cost of the procedure, My consultation appt went well, was the for about an hour/​hour and half, we set up the lasik appt for three weeks from that date, I had to get my eyes dialated and measured a few days prior. Each time I had an appt scheduled, I got a text and voice mail reminding me of my appt, day of lasik I was a bit nervous but excited. The whole time I was in the room, the doctor talked me through the whole process which was comforting. It went pretty smoothly and the next morning I woke up with clear vision, when I went back for the followup about 12 hrs after surgery my vision was already 20⁄30 with it progressing better over the next few days/​weeks, the power of sight is amazing and I don’t take this for granted. I am most grateful that I found Dr. McMann and his team to perform this procedure for me. I don’t regret one bit of it, and I feel bad for the Honolulu Dr who lost my business bc they didn’t call me back.

I used to see Dr. McMann, but one day he was overbooked and I ended up seeing Dr. Masaki. I actually like her even better, but it may be a bias because I prefer female doctors. Anyway, I’ve been seeing her now for my annual appointments and I’m very happy with her. They’re both very polite and knowledgeable.
Every one of their staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Appointments usually have to be made way in advance, even for established patients, which kind of sucks.
The waiting area is very cramped and always full. Every time I’ve gone there it’s also pretty warm. Wait time is always very long. While I do arrive early, they still don’t take me until about 10 – 20 minutes after my actual appointment time (but I was raised to always arrive early, so that won’t change). Because my annual appointments involve dilation, I’m usually at their office for about 1.5−2 hours every visit (including the time I’m waiting before my appointment). I’ve gotten used to it now, so I make sure to bring a book. The last time I was there, they had added seats just outside the office, but I hesitate to wait out there in case I won’t hear them call me.
Oh, because of the small waiting area, I recommend not bringing your children (especially baby in a stroller); don’t bring your entire family (seriously, there’s always someone in there with an entire entourage, come on!). There’s literally like maybe 6 – 8 chairs and not much walking room. They have at least 2 doctors seeing patients all day so the chairs are needed for actual patients.

Love the staff, love the office but we am sitting here at 9:30 and my wife’s appt was at 9am. Not happy at the moment. The Dr. does amazing work but plan you day according because from our experience you will be seen after your appt time. If he is late for his first appt for the day, you know all the appts will be late. A LITTLE UPSET!
UPDATE: within 2 hours Dr. McMann sent an email apologizing for being late. A true professional!

I’ve had my Lasik eye surgery done by Dr. McMann for over 2 years now. I have nothing bad to say about them! The office is clean, the staff and doctor were really great and friendly. I was a bit scared to get the surgery done, however, it was quite reassuring to know that some staff had Lasik performed by Dr. McMann.
The surgery wasn’t so bad as I thought it would be. It was how Dr. McMann describe it to be, I didn’t feel a thing! Post-​op wasn’t so bad either. As strange as it may sound, if I were to do Lasik eye surgery again, I would do it, only with McMann Eye Institue!

Great location with tons of free parking. Came here because I saw a living social coupon ($ 250 towards $ 1000 credit for lasik eye surgery). I was able to get squeezed in immediately for a Saturday appointment/​consultation. Seems like everyone tries to come in on a Saturday. The office is clean and inviting. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately I was only able to take my eye measurements and I had to reschedule my appointment so I could attend another appointment all the way in town.
