Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy

There’s nothing more awesome than watching your kid learn something and be so proud to show you what they’ve learned! My daughter has been taking classes at Leading Edge for almost four years now. She has gained confidence, body awareness, friendship, and so much more. Coaches and staff have been good to us over the years. There has been some turnaround with coaches but if you actually talk to the staff you’ll find out why. One had to move to take care of an ailing grandmother, another was married to a military man and had to move. I can’t blame owners for that. The gymnastics instruction is top notch and safety is a priority. To the parent that had young children fighting, that might be the norm in your household, but Leading Edge is not a daycare, it is a gymnastics academy and if my kid was in the class with your fighting children I would expect you to intervene and make it stop. Thank you Leading Edge for years of fun and keeping my daughter active!

Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy!!! All I can say is a very bad business. we were attending there for four years and my daughter was on level 3 Team. They make Team parents pay the Team Fee all upfront $$$. And competitions all upfront $$$$. Some of our meet got cancle we never get our money back and never get explained why we don’t go to certain meet. It is a lot of bad thing behind the seen of nice clean gym that I don’t think I can tell it all. The gym owner is verbally abuses. Don’t get on her case. She will make sure that you feel humiliated in front of people that walk around. She is dis honest. If they have your card on file they will keep continue charge you. We left her gym and people start to asking why we left. And I tell them my opinions and my experience with them. One day I got a phone call from one of LEGA staff telling me to stop telling people stuff. Also this gym don’t seem to keep a good coach, all the good coach are gone. WONDER WHY??? and if you asked them why the coachs left, LEGA staff will tell you what they want you to hear and you will believe them. I was there for long time I saw it all when the gym owner walk around and looking for something wrong, I saw she have a fight with her team coach three day in a row with three different coach and I know all of the coach. It is the ugly truth that they don’t want people to know. I am writing this review not because I want to hurt her business but just to let people know and be aware of what are you going in to. All the bad reviews that you seen on Unilocal,it is all true about LEGA. That’s all I can say. Oh! Forgot one more thing, if you go to a website of a better business Bureau to check a score from A+ to F. Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy is have an F. On the website. So, what is that tell you. And every time someone write the bad reviews about LEGA, the amazing things is: She always find someone to write the good things about this business and give a five-​star to the reviews. The only one star I gave to this place is only for coaches.

Our daughter and son attended LEGA for a couple of years. It wasn’t until their head coach left that she was left with very little instruction and more of the same. In the end, she was no longer excited and stopped progressing. When I would go pick up my son the only thing I would see was that he was jumping on the trampoline or playing some basketball game. He did learn to do flips on the trampoline but that was about it.
Once we decided our time was up and my daughter was no longer interested in the lack of instruction, we requested a refund for a month that was coming up and had pre-​paid for. Long story short — LE would not give us a refund for the month that we would not and did not attend. We sued LE and won. Has LE paid out the judgement? NO! Sheila. the owner, would not communicate with us in any fashion, no e-​mail, no phone calls. Sheila, the owner, did not even show up to court. She also had a «lawyer call us. I would bet any amount of money that the person that called was not a lawyer. Not even a «Thank you» for supporting her business for several years with 2 kids in her programs. The bookkeeping is horrible on 3×5 index cards and sometime not even knowing if you’ve paid and how much.
This business is very poorly run in my opinion and does not support the community that supports it. They will take what you have and continue to take from you and give nothing in return.
Attend one of their Gala’s and you have to pay $ 10 per ticket per person to get in? Really? How much is each parent paying to have their child attend this place? I once bought an extra ticket and found out that one of my guests would not make it. I asked for a refund for the ticket. The amazing response I got was to take the ticket and go and sell it to someone who was standing in line already since there was for sure someone there who needed one. Yes! They wanted me to go hustle the ticket instead of giving me the money back. Good community support their huh?
If you decide to have your children attend this «academy» I would not expect very much from it. They will learn how to do round-​offs and back hand springs and that will be where they peak unless you go outside and get them additional coaching. Also, when paying, DO NOT be a good customer and pay ahead. Make sure that they call you to tell you that you owe them money. Only pay by check and DO NOT leave a credit card on file for them to charge when they want.
Currently we will be forced to get a writ of execution in order to collect on the judgement against them since LE is refusing payment.

Sheila is the owner. In my opinion, she is awful. My daughter reported (as did the 4 other children in her group) that Sheila treated my daughter and her friends horribly. I was told Sheila yelled at them, didn’t allow them to use the restroom, refused to allow them to call their parents and humiliated them by bringing them to the front of the class and telling the other students they were the reason they couldn’t continue their activities. It is my opinion that Sheila has no business working with children. My daughter has been in tears for two days from the humiliation and disrespect she received from Sheila. Unfortunately my concerns went nowhere with Leading Edge as Sheila is the owner. I would also like to add that this review has been edited because I was contacted by an attorney representing Leading Edge gymnastics stating that she would «take further action» if I didn’t remove parts of my review. These are all my opinions of Leading Edge gymnastics. I can only report what my daughter told me happened.

SCAM ALERT! BUYERS BEWARE!
My son attended Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy summer camp this last summer from ⁶⁄₂₀₁₄ thru 8/​2014, as he has done for the past two summers. As always, there is a weekly charge for the basic camp plus additional charges for early (before camp) child care. After hearing nothing but good things about Alex, during the last two weeks, the tone changed dramatically. We were told Alex had used foul language (w/​two other boys). The 2^nd & 3^rd times he was suspended for a day, however, we were never reimbursed for the day he missed. We were also overcharged the entire summer for an extra ½ hour a day for the before camp care. Regardless, because we were otherwise happy w/​the service, we did not ask for a refund. The last week of camp, the owner, Sheila, ran up to me and said she «had something to tell me that I didn’t want to hear». She was holding a square object and said, «you wouldn’t believe how much it costs to repair this» and went on to explain that the item was a balance beam end cap that Alex had damaged, and asked for $ 450, which she assured me was how much it would cost to fix. I was dumfounded, but trusted Sheila, and wrote her a check, however, as the day went on, I began to have doubts, and researched balance beam end cap costs and found them to range from approx. $ 60-​$ 70. After speaking w/​my husband, who agreed that $ 450 for something that costs $ 70 at the most was outrageous, especially since LEGA was already being paid to supervise our son to begin with. I stopped payment on the check and my husband emailed LEGA, nicely explaining that he would be glad to purchase and repair the end cap (he is quite handy and had also done his research on balance beam repair). This all took place late August/​early September. Months went by and we heard nothing until early October, when we received an email from Danyelle who I assume is the office manager informing us that they had already had the beam repaired, and that we owed them $ 200, and might owe them $ 600 if the repair «did not hold». I replied to Danyelle letting her know that we would only pay for the end cap and that, in fairness, that the cost should be divided between the 3 boys’ families to be fair, and even that was more than fair since LEGA was already being paid to supervise the children to begin with. She responded; indicating that only our son had damaged the end cap and again demanded reimbursement; this time siting that there was some sort of legal requirement that someone has to be certified to install the end cap. I responded requesting an itemized invoice or receipt for the repair, and also the specific regulation that requires someone to be certified to repair the beam. I did not receive a response until today; Oct. 22, in which Danyelle sent a very vague and nondescript estimate and invoice from Leading Edge (NOT a copy from the «certified» contractor she alleges to have performed the repair and charged them $ 200), nor did she include a copy of the regulation. At this point, I am giving up as I am quite sure this is an attempt to scam money.
I did some research on the Better Business Bureau website and would encourage anyone reading this review to do the same as there are multiple complaints there too.

I LOVE this gym! My son is autistic and it’s been great therapy for him. He’s attended several weeks of the summer gym camp. He came home every night tired and ready to relax. He slept like a rock! The staff is incredible and they loved working with him. He learned alot, and it was worth every penny it cost to send him to camp, which was very reasonable. They even had an overnighter, which my son went to as well. It was his first time not spending the night with family. He did very well and is looking forward to the next one in September! Keep it up! It’s hard to find places that accept my son for who he is. This is a very caring, accepting, well managed facility.

So glad I chose to check out this gymnastics place. My daughter loves it and looks forward to her classes. The coaches are so helpful!

I took my daughter here for a camp over the summer and she loved it. It’s a little on the pricey side but well worth the cost. They keep them busy and they have a blast. At the end of the camp, they have all of the kids do a show, it was really cute and she loved showing us what she learned.

On May 15^th, my daughter moved from the preschool class to level 1. This moved her from Kendra’s care to Olga’s. In the first class, with Olga, we experienced a completely different level of training in the class. I notified, Jodie at the front desk and Ray, the General Manager began to watch. Because of my level of dissatisfaction I discussed options with Jodie. I was told my only option was to move her to a different class. This was not convenient as to I was on a Saturday class and had to move her to a Wednesday class in the evening, but I made it work. I was extremely happy with her new coach Brianna, but why would they now address the issues with Olga and give coaching and guidance to her???
On June 15^th, there was Gala for the gym and its students to perform. I have a list of complaints. I spoke with Ray, General Manager the following Tuesday. Below are my complaints and his response.
1. Selling roses, I went to buy my daughter roses and was told because I had a $ 20 and did not have exact change, I could not buy. I stated, «You made an announcement that you sold 6 dozens in the 3:00pm show and you should have change». Magically she had change.
2. Father –Daughter Dance during admission, LEGA announced there would be a contest of only for Father-daughter’s to dance and win prices. My husband was at home with our infant and could not attend. My daughter had a breakdown, because she did not have her dad there. Now how many other children missed out
3. We were informed that the 3:00pm the kids got bored and that they created a activity for the 7:00pm kids, but we had to pay??? I am sorry I just paid $ 42 for the Gala outfit and $ 10 a ticket to see my OWN child??? And now I have to pay because they can’t pay and KNOW they have children to entertain children.
4. After the performance, I sent my daughter to get her shoes. Now she had to go to the upper level. After 5 minutes, my daughter had not returned. I went to the stair case that was unsupervised. I attempted to walk up the stairs case, until I had a LEGA employee yell at me to not go up the stair case. I stated «oh ok, can you go get my daughter». She went looking at stated, I do not see her. I asked, what do you mean? Are you not watching the children up here? Do you not have a check in-​out process? My child is missing and your answer is «I don’t see her?
I ran to look for her and found her. I was not aware of a second stair case, that no one was watching and my daughter had went down those stairs.
I was almost out to my car with the LEGA employee who instructed me she didn’t know where my daughter was, ran out after me saying, ‘it’s not my fault I did not where your daughter was» I stated go back inside because you are not watching child, you are out here harassing me. She continued to stay outside and gossip with employees about me. (I have 4 LEGA mom’s and the cell numbers as witness, numbers can be provide upon request)
After speaking with Ray, he stated he would be talking with the owner Shelia Bath and asked what I wanted. I stated I wanted a refund from the gym for June and the month in advanced we had paid for July. Ray stated OK.
On June 19^th, the first class after performance, my daughter and I attended, we were given dirty looks, and no one would address us and basically treated us as unwelcomed customers.
I called from June 21^st-​27^th leaving a VM for Ray to call me on the resolution, he never returned my call.
On the 5^th call, I spoke with the office manager Ashley Hanby she stated we have given your VMs, I asked what his schedule is, she stated she was not going to help me and a letter had been sent addressing my concerns. WHY had no one stated anything about this letter? She hung up on me and when I called back 4 times she hung up on me .
Go to another GYM, unless you have with Coach Kendra or Brianna, coaches, staff, and leadership team are worthless

When we came for my son’s first lesson, I was not happy to see that his coach looked to be about 17 years old. To my surprise, this has been a great experience. That young coach works very well with my son and the other boys in his class. He has what it takes to teach a group of 5 – 7 year old boys– he is just strict enough, offers just the right balance of attention and encouragement, is extremely focused and attentive and the kids benefit. The one class the coach missed for being ill was taught by an older man who is no where close to the kind of coach our young guy is. I have been so impressed as well by the woman I assume is the office manager. She works as hard as any coach on the floor, is polite and really knows what she is doing.

Really nice gym and really big but the staff seems unorganized and inexperienced. They’ve charged us double some months and had no explanation. Really unorganized but nice gym w/​lots of resources.

This place is huge, and they have lots of classes available 6 days a week. Teachers are strict and attentive.
