Specialties

Lic’s is a locally owned family business since 1950. An old-fashioned, soda-fountain-style Ice Cream & Deli Shoppe serving homemade soups, salads & deli sandwiches. We bake bread, cakes and cookies from scratch daily and make a secret House dressing and are known for the best Grilled cheese & Spicy-hot Chili in town! We also make super premium ice cream & sorbet for 8 locations at the Lic’s plant in downtown Evansville. We are famous for Choco-Cremes…those hand-dipped, bite-sized chocolate covered ice cream balls and Turtle Pies. Inside seating with a fun family-friendly atmosphere & drive-thru service available at all 8 deli & ice cream locations. It’s de-Lic’s-ious!

History

Established in 1950.

Lic’s, which stands for Lloyd’s Ice Cream Shoppes, began in 1950 as one small shoppe where ice cream was made in the back room. In 1986, Lic’s added a complete deli concept reminiscent of an old fashioned soda fountain shoppe. Today Lic’s makes ice cream & sorbet for 8 shoppes at the Lic’s plant in downtown Evansville, Indiana. Lic’s bakes bread, cakes and cookies from scratch daily and makes a secret House dressing and spicy-hot chili. Lic’s is a locally owned business.

Don S.

Business Owner

Lic’s was first opened in 1950 and was called Lloyd’s Ice Cream. The L-I-C-S stands for Lloyd’s Ice Cream Shoppes. Don Smith purchased the single ice cream shoppe in 1962 and expanded it to 8 shoppes which serve old fashioned Deli-style soup, salads & sandwiches as well as the original ice cream & sorbet treats.
