The Home Depot

How many Home Depots do you know share a parking lot with a Steak and Shake? Yes, I was bad and had a milkshake while shopping for flowers.
I came here last weekend to shop for flowers for my first balcony garden. There was not a ton of staff on the inside of the gardening section, but there was quite a few outside. I did not need any assistance, but they were there if needed. The prices were the same as any other place for transplantable flowers. They had a fairly large quantity of plants, but the variety seemed to be lacking. I think I only had a choice of about 6 plants. The good news was that I was able to check out quickly, and the parking lot was not a zoo. (Take that Menards!)

What can i say besides that i finally found a place that can get me off just right. First off make sure you order the hotdog. They are down right out of this world. As i go inside to search for my home improvement needs, I grab a dog… Im not gonna lie. Sometimes i grab 2. Then i walk around the store. By the time i finished eating those pups i usually have already found what i was looking for. On the way out at check out, My face is already starting to sweat Because I KNOW I’m going to grab another one of those babies on the way out.(maybe 2 ;))Food and service 5stars. Great cooking hernandaz!

Home Depot Evanston is my go to shopping place for this bucket and brush contractor over these many years. Overall, the store is well stocked, staff is knowledgable of their products and its store location and consistently helpful and courteous. It is well run. Since it is a larger Home Depot the vast majority of the contractors and homeowners needs will be found here. For tile, I now shop at the Floor and Décor just West of McCormick on Oakton. F&D is new and not well managed yet, but if you are patient, you will find a phenomenal assortment of retail tile presentation and selection.

I went to this Home Depot store in Evanston, Il to buy a humidifier today 12÷30÷15. I was talked to so rudley by an associate that I ended my shopping trip, went to the front desk to complain, and walked out and went to Lowes in Skokie. There were 3 associates gathered together in the middle of an aisle, just chatting away. I walked up and asked if anyone could tell me where the humidifiers are found. The afro-​am young lady piped up and said, «Aisle 9. do you think you can find it or do I have to take you over there» The other associates just smirked… I said, «young lady who are speaking to in that manner? I asked you where a product is located, and I can certainly find the aisle» I happened to be on my cell phone, and my friend heard the encounter and was also offended. This must be what ‘black-​on-​black crime’ feels like (I am afro-​am). I was offended and embarassed by her attitude (she must have been feeling why are you bothering me). I ended my shopping trip, and reported her to the mgr. He knew immediately who she was, and said he would take care of it. I said I was going to buy a humidifier today, but not from Home Depot based on this service. These young people should not be hired if they are not properly trained in customer service.

Being my first time here at this Home Depot store i like how helpful the staff was in helping me find the product i was looking for and giving me some helpful recommendations to make an educated decision! Prices were cheap too!

Just thirty minutes ago I walked threw the door and up and down the isles looking for someone to help, but it seemed their were no employees around. I eventually found a women who was short with blonde hair and from about 3 feet away I said «hello can you help me.» The women was standing still in the middle of the isle and she acknowledged me, gave me a dirty look, did something with her hands, and as quickly as she could rushed away from me. So fast that I couldn’t keep up. I really couldn’t believe it. We made eye contact so I know she saw me. While rushing after her I noticed another employee pulling a palate down one of the last isles. I hurried down to ask if he could help. This man stopped what he was doing, and helped me. He was really sweet. I don’t know much about the products they sell there even though my husband is there almost everyday (He knows most of the staff, and all the managers by name) So, as he explained some things to me I told him he could just tell me where it was and I would try and find it. He said «no, its ok I will show you.» He walked all the way to the other end of the store, and we came across another employee who he said could better help me with that department (because the man helping me was from gardening/​landscaping, and my question pertained to something totally different). I was so thankful and appreciative of his customer service that I had to know his name. His name is Lenere (I hope I spelled it correctly.) Anyways this five star review is dedicated to him, and the great customer service he provides at this location. He is a great asset to their company and they are very lucky to have him. Thank you Lenere.

My husband and I stopped in at this Home Depot location this afternoon with a very specific task. That finished, we decided to have a look at their snowblowers. As we were discussing the various choices, an employee approached and engaged us in conversation. It became evident that he didn’t know these products when I asked his thoughts between two in particular — he informed me, albeit politely, that I could read the differences on the descriptions written on the signs on the shelves. Well, yes — but that didn’t really help me know how they might perform differently from, or similarly to, each other.
We thanked him and were preparing to move on when he rather off-​handedly informed us that he used to be the director of marketing for the entire company. (Wow! Imagine, now working at the store in Evanston, of allll the possibilities!) Further, in some years when there is a surplus of money, they offer customers money back (?) when said customers re-​do their kitchen. The first three customers to take him up on the offer and go through with the job benefit from this. Lucky us! Right?
I smelled a con — especially because I recall getting this line at some time in the last 12 months, either from the same person or someone else. My husband didn’t remember this, and said sure, he’d be glad to take 2 minutes to make an appointment with a kitchen designer. So, my friendly and affirming husband walked over to a desk area for that purpose. I began strolling through the appliances — not shopping, just looking. In short order, I could hear my husband speaking in quite a displeased tone to Mr Former Marketing Director, and then he told me that he was finished and we could leave. On the way out, he told me that the salesman was pitching a kitchen makeover that involved merely refacing our 30-​yr-​old cabinets — which was already done by the woman from whom we bought the house last year. My husband explained this and told the man that no, we plan to do a brand-​new kitchen, a full gut job. However, for some reason, this man wasn’t able to pivot and send us to someone else to discuss a kitchen at full price, but instead attempted to talk my husband into this absurd scheme. So, end of conversation. And, no job coming their way.
When we get around to doing our kitchen, I’d originally planned to talk with the people at Home Depot and Lowe’s, in addition to strictly kitchen designers. I will now be scratching HD from that list.
And, I’m going to get one of those snowblowers — but not from Home Depot. Today’s experience was absolutely insulting, in addition to clearly being some sort of scam to rope in customers.

My wife and I are renovating a house in Evanston and we’re here 1 – 3 times a week. What can one say? It’s a Home Depot. Sure we could get better pricing for certain items at other places or online, but in a pinch they usually come through.
I dislike self-​checkout because it’s too rise-​of-​the-​machines for me: I know that’s taking a job away from someone, but given the customer service at check-​out, which ranges from vacantly apathetic, to openly hostile, I find myself at the self-​checkout nearly every time.
The absolute best part of the Home Depot is the hot dog and italian beef stand in the front. The hot dogs are good, and the italian beef is excellent given the location and price. Next time we’re there I’m going to try out the polish sausage. Contractors are often in line there around lunch time, and it lends a friendly vibe to the store. If I could find it on Unilocal,I’d give it 4+ star review.

This is my first choice for hardware, paint supplies, and gardening items. I also have found the staff in the flooring and kitchen departments to be very helpful.

I have been going to this particular Home Depot for over 10 years. Back in the day, they would have gotten 5 stars. Unfortunately, due to a steep decline in the quality of customer service and the number of employees they have on the floor at any given time has been really disappointing. There are some old timers who have been there forever who are helpful but in general the employees almost seem to hate the customers… Something must be going on in the corporation because they have stopped having items in stock and some of the cedar wood they are getting in shouldn’t ever be sold. It is green and warped… every last one in stock.
I digress. I miss the old days when customer service was a priority.

I went to the Home Depot today and they sent me to isle 10 then to isle 11 than to isle 47 then I went to the pro dear to ask for help and they said that they have 3 in stock at this Home Depot in Evanston so I arrived at this Home Depot and the people here were not very helpful to assist me with my problem never trust the computer that says items are in stock don’t let Home Depot take you on a wild goose chase all around town call with the item number before you go.

Board variety of electrical plumbing and carpentry materials. Sometimes it is difficult to find somebody to help depending on the store.

I actually like this place!
I’m totally NOT a construction-​hands on-​projects-​person– but there’s something fascinating about remodeling.
Stopped in today to pick up mod podge (they only had industrial size) and felt stickers to make coasters (small projects to start with) — and I love how helpful and friendly everyone at HD is.
Even when people didn’t know what I wanted (mod podge is more of an art-​n-​crafts sealant) — they made sure to direct me to those who did. In fact with such a huge store– the employees were super impressive by knowing exactly what aisle the felt stickers were!
I would love to spend more time roaming around and learning about paint primers and granite types next time!
They also have food and plenty of parking! They also sell household products like swifter supplies and laundry essentials. Oh and I really like their household plant section as well!

I have had poor customer experiences at this location on more than one occasion. Staff has frequently not no where to find various items. Frequently, I seem to have a better idea than they do. I recently went there to purchase lumber. There was nobody in the lumbar section to provide assistance. When I asked him another employee for assistance, they said that there was only one staff member available in lumber and he was already helping to other customers before me. I ended up searching through the pieces of lumber on my own and got a huge cut on my thumb from a splinter. When I went to get some assistance and ask for a Band-​Aid, they said they didn’t have any Band-​Aids for me and just gave me a piece of paper towel. They were not even apologetic and did not offer any assistance with my purchase. They seemed to think it was funny how short staffed they were.
there are a number of other Home Depot stores within a reasonable distance from this one, and I will try to avoid this one in the future if possible.

This store is huge. It’s way too big for me to walk around trying to find a few items that I need urgently. If I’m looking for bulbs, and see the center of the store overly lit by lamp displays, then naturally, I would assume you’ll keep the bulbs with the lamps. Or at least within an aisle from them.
I was incorrect with that assumption.
The associate that happened to be near me was nice to guide me in the right direction. There weren’t that many associates around but I think that has more to do with my first visit being around closing time.
And so started my aimless semi-​fast pace walking all over the store just for bulbs and a hammer.
This Home Depot gets 4 stars because I at least got some much needed exercise.
This store get 1 star taken away because I was made to exercise!

I like this home depot because it has much more paint supplies than the one one on Mccormick and Lincoln at the city. This home depot has alot of products or items with a great staff. At times I could find someone to help me find something to buy. The staff are great.

I have a flush mount fixture in my hallway and both bulbs went out last night. I have never taken the fixture off before so I wasn’t sure how to do it. I used logic and tried to turned the pin on the bottom counterclockwise but it would NOT budge! I tried putting on a bunch of different gloves to get a better grip — a t-​shirt, etc. Nothing helped!
I went to Home Depot a couple of hours ago and explained my situation to one of the assistant managers and the store manager. They sent Donny from plumbing to my place and he did it for me! He was out within five minutes. I am dazzled with their level of customer service. I really could not believe how nice they were with their advice but that they actually had it done for me, I was completely floored. Thank you so much!

I come here every weekend just to see Zena. She needs her own blog!
Great garden section with huge selection, the lady that works there is so knowledgable. This is my favorite Home Depot in the Chicago area, mostly because of Zena :)

Menards, you loose on this one. I went to the Menrads by me and found they weren’t open yet!
Aghhh! Why can’t the world operate on MY time! Who needs sleep? It’s such a waste of time! (I’m only kidding, of course).
So, I thought, I’ll hit Home Depot near my school and get that spray paint, (I had already used five cans and had run out… and school hasn’t even started yet).
I noticed that the price is nearly a dollar more than Menards so I’m kicking myself that I didn’t go the night before… I go to the service desk and ask if they might honor the price tag from Menards; and she does!
SCORE!
…And to boot she gives me 10% off after I explained that I’m an art teacher trying to cut corners, (refurbishing some used canvas board), because I was anticipating my budget being less than the previous year.

The store has so many gardening items that it feels like I’m in a nusery. I had help from various employees as they saw my expressions and would just come and ask me what I was looking for. I found everything that i needed at good prices too. Definately very clean and attentive staff.
