I have had a good experience with Dr. Levine so far. I’ve seen him once and he found something on my face and has sent me to a plastic surgeon for a biopsy. Don’t have any info yet to confirm that he was right but think he is. Sure, he does not have a fabulous bedside manner, but he’s smart and seems to know his specialty very well. Who cares if his personality wanes if he’s a good doctor. And yes, he was thorough and explored all parts of my body, but that’s what a dermatologist is supposed to do.

at first visit he panicked when i started to get up to show him the problem i was there for(itch on finger). he then prescribed an anti fungal cream which was very hard to obtain, took weeks to get and did nothing to help. he also suggested i have a full body exam, which seemed reasonable to me. found a mole that was suspicious, suggesting that i have it removed and biopsied. and have the spot being treated with anti fungal biopsied as well. the surgeon couldn’t find a mole that looked suspicious, so dr. levine had to mark it, biopsy came back negative, and the finger spot turned out to be a wart. he gave me another cream for that, which after 2 months did nothing other than disfigure the skin. i told him when we started that we had 3 months to deal with the problem, since that was when my insurance deductible reset. he assured me several times that it would be fixed before then. it wasn’t.

I’ve actually had very good experiences with Dr. Levine. He accurately diagnosed my husband with skin cancer and took care of it well. If his body scan was«invasive»(according to one poster) that’s how it should be. You can have skin cancer between your toes and other places the sun doesn’t shine. The last time I saw him he was quite jovial. Our insurance doesn’t cover office visits so he cut us an «out of pocket» deal which I thought was nice. We’ve been seeing him for over 10 years and have always found him competent and willing to answer all our questions.

I saw Dr. Levine for an infection on my ankle. I told him that I suspected it was due to my having a blister from new running shoes and then showering at my gym without flip flops. He decided that it was more likely that I had a skin infection most commonly attributed to Herpes infections(now, while I realize that there are many ways to contract a herpes infection, I am not a likely candidate for any of those, although, for the fun of it, I did go home and ask my husband if he was having an affair. lol) Dr. Levine prescribed some sort of cream, which I applied to no avail. Around the same time, I saw my primary care physician, who thought the diagnosis was unlikely. I called Dr. Levine and told him that the prescription was not helping and that my regular doctor thought the diagnosis was incorrect, but Dr. Levine, rather insultingly, stood by his diagnosis(he really had a way of making you feel like an idiot — and I am NOT an idiot :)). Getting desperate, I cancelled a follow-up appointment and found another dermatologist. My new dermatologist listened to my story, took a look at my ankle and said that the most likely case was a fungal infection from the shower at my gym. She prescribed an anti-fungal, took a scraping(something Dr. Levine would not do) and set up a follow-up appointment two weeks later. By the time I went back, the infection was gone and the scraping confirmed that it was a fungal infection, as I had suspected from the very beginning.
