I was new to this area and decided to give this place a shot. The food was absolutely delicious. All of the sides were great, and their fried fish and shrimp was perfect and tasty. Customer service was awesome as well. Everyone should try this place at least once.

Goolsby’s was more than I expected. I had the ribs, broccoli and rice casserole and sweet potato casserole with the fried cornbread. Everything was sooooo good. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of some southern cooking.

I’m new in town, and as the locals might say«dang, y’all this is good!» I’m not giving it five stars on the simple fact that you will have a heart attack if you go here too often. I had the brisket, greens, and black eyed peas… all scrumptious. The peach cobbler is good, but definitely tastes like canned peaches. If you want to get the southern fried experience, this is the spot in Augusta.

Wow, that was impressive. Super tasty southern cooking. I had the BBQ pork loin with a butt rub! Ur was killer! And the black eyed peas, collard greens and sweet potatoes were amazing! And always pick the hoe bread, mighty filling! Highly recommended. The cafeteria style makes it more fun in my book. Big thumbs up!

This is a «meat and three» kind of a place. Some of the friendliest and most attentive staff you will ever come across. Your drink will be kept filled at all times! :-) I had the pulled pork, green beans and baked beans. All were excellent. And, they give you lots of food. You will not go away hungry. There are several different sauces to choose from as well.

Southern comfort food at its finest. The food is good and the staff are friendly. Choose from Ribs, pork loin, fried or grilled chicken, chicken strips and then add your sides. You really can’t go wrong, but I would suggest trying the sweet potato casserole! It’s one of my favorites. Don’t forget to heck out the Grovetown location if you’re in the area.

So… we decided to try this place based on the Unilocal reviews and Unilocalers didn’t steer me wrong! We walked in and were promptly greeted by really friendly people. We wanted to try as much as possible so we ordered the fried fish and shrimp plate with cabbage and collard greens and the barbecue ribs and chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and home fries(forgive me for the run on sentence). The fish and shrimp were seasoned/fried perfectly, the chicken was juicy and the ribs were fall off the bone tender. The cornbread reminded me of my grandma’s and the collards were cooked just right. Not that they needed to do anything else but the barbecue sauce was awesome. It’s no surprise we will definitely be back!

Food is good and the service is better. The whole cafeteria style allows you too see what the food looks like prior to ordering, which is great because you won’t be disappointed by portions or food quality. Great selection of sides too and their cornbread is unique!

I’m new to the whole cafeteria style dining experience so when I walked in, I was a little scared when approached with the menu/chalkboard and fast paced feel of the restaurant. I’m more comfortable with a drive-thru or sit down and order from a nice lady with a notepad. But I like trying new things so I dove headfirst and ordered their fried chicken special with collard greens, corn bread and mac and cheese. And it was ALL good. They have rotating meats and sides every day but I think their cornbread and mac and cheese are pretty the staples. I especially enjoy their BBQ brisket with a side of corn. When I have an itching for good hearty sloppy food, this is the way to go.

I’ve been putting off going to this place because typically soul food restaurants disappoint me. It’s usually a watered down experience. Maybe everyone’s opinion of soul food is relative but for me it’s simple. It should taste as close to how my and every friend I grew up with grandmother’s would or at least as good as mine(and that’s pretty damn good). On with the review. Goolsby is located in a strip mall. It’s cafeteria line service but as soon as you see the offerings you pray it all tastes as good as it looks. Mister and I both were in the mood for ribs so we both ordered that but I skipped the sauce. I was hoping for collards but there was cabbage instead so I skipped that. I opted for mac & cheese and Lima beans. Mister chose mac & cheese and green beans. We both also got a side of candied sweet potatoes and chose the hoe cake cornbread. I have to tell you EVERYTHING was excellent. While the mac & cheese is slightly different from how I’m used to it; it was delish. The ribs were tender and the sauce was tasty. The green veggies were perfectly seasoned and the hoe cake thick! The candied sweet potatoes were extra delish with carmelized nutty goodness. It was really hard to resist ordering more food to go but we did. I’m just glad this place is here in our town where we can come back anytime!

I’m never disappointed with lunch or dinner. And the peach cobbler is heavily! It’s a must.

Fabulous! I’m a Marine of 12 years been all over the world, had all kinds of cuisine. Was stationed in both Texas and Alabama. Goolsbys has some fabulous food and world class service. Had the combo plate with ribs n pork loin with collards and potato salad w a sweet tea. First the BBQ sauce is truly unique! Tangy with a hint of sweet and hot very good. Collards were cooked perfectly al dente, potato salad was not sweet; perfect. The bus lady/waitress was awesome, offered me some chow chow? Pickled peppers n cabbage for my collards which set it off perfectly. My sweet tea was great not to sweet and was never allowed to be not topped off. Great lunch for 14.00.

Delicious home cooked southern meals. It tastes very much like visiting grandmother. The fried chicken is my favorite with the fried cornbread. My husband likes the fried pork chop with mustard BBQ sauce. Mac and cheese is really good too!

This place is great for southern food and will leave you full and probably eating too much. I love all the options for sides and the honey mustard. Can be a little pricey though.

If you want BBQ Goolsby’s won’t let you down. The staff is friendly, the portions are big, and the ribs were fantasticly tender and flavorful. Their collard greens are pretty much the best you can get anywhere. And their corn bread is bigger, flatter, pan fried and THEBEST cornbread I’ve ever had. EVER! Seriously, I would come here just to eat a stack of that cornbread like pancakes. Great now I’m drooling.

We ate dinner here last evening. This is cooking like momma used to do. The collards, potato salad, and BBQ pork loin were excellent. I would recommend this place if you are looking for down home cooking! We will return again and again.

I LOVE Goolsby’s! They easily have the best chicken tenders you will ever try, and anything else I have ever eaten in this cafeteria restaurant has been wonderful. I really like that you can see all the food while ordering in the cafeteria line, and that the staff behind the line will help you out and tell you what is delicious today(though I believe it is all delicious every day.) Their vegetables are cooked Southern-style, which means they often have meat, but that is fine as I grew up eating food prepared exactly this way. Their black-eye peas and rice or butter beans are always going to remind me of my family cooking. They have the BEST collards I have ever eaten outside of my own home and everyone who enjoys the chow chow has assured me it is the best. I just eat my collards with a little salt and a LOT of love. Their sweet potato casserole could almost qualify as a dessert, which is fine by me, I often like something sweet to end up a meal. The prices are reasonable and sometimes I even manage to have leftovers for another meal. This is an Augusta treasure and I love the food and casual, kitchen-type atmosphere every time I visit!

Goolsby’s is not a fancy place. However it’s a great deal, the staff is incredibly friendly, and it’s easy to get in and out if you’re in a hurry. I’ve been here three or four times. I know I can get good food quickly and it’s on my way home. It’s down home southern cooking. I can be a bit of a creature of habit. I always get the barbecue chicken breast without sauce and double green beans. I did venture out one time and get a serving of macaroni and cheese. I usually get a roll, but I did on one occasion get the cornbread. It’s good or I wouldn’t have been back more than once! The chicken is always a nice size breast — bone in with skin, well seasoned and moist. The green beans are done Southern style which means they’re soft and flavored to perfection. I did enjoy the macaroni and cheese on the occasion that I ordered that, though it’s not the best I’ve ever had. Perhaps I’m just prejudiced to my grandmother’s recipe! I’ve only ever stared longingly at the peach cobbler. One day I’ll splurge and try a scoop– it certainly looks delicious!

This cafeteria style place is just wonderful. Firstly, the staff is delightful and«helps those new folks», including introducing us to chow chow to enjoy with collards. Secondly, the food was hot and flavorful. We enjoyed the chicken tenders, ribs, bbq chicken, fried okra, potato salad, black eyed peas over rice, collards … and when I say ‘enjoyed’ … each bite was more wonderful than the previous. The serving size is plentiful, and we had more than enough for the next day.

The only downside here is the atmosphere which is a little too casual for my tastes. The food was awesome! I had the chicken tenders, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes with gravy(diet cheat day, obviously). I would say the prices are a little steep for the product, but that was before I knew how huge the servings are. I had enough to save and have lunch the next day as well. I’ll definitely be returning-though the location is kind of out of the way.
