Quality Inn Eureka – Redwoods Area

Best hotel for the value in Eureka! Room was very big and clean. Bed was comfortable and cozy. Lots of extras like microwave, small refrigerator, coffee pot, hair dryer and an iron. Nice flat screen TV. Had a small desk and a table with 2 chairs. Shower worked well and was also clean. Large sink area with big mirror. Outside lot was well lit and security cameras installed. Breakfast was included in the lounge area and was awesome! This hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, bars and Marina. I frequently travel to Eureka and have stayed in many hotels in the area. This hotel was the best so far. The hotel is listed as a 2 star but is 3 star quality at a great price. I will definitely be booking my next trip here.

Stopped here for just one night. Front desk staff was very kind and helpful. The room is large and clean with NO smell of previous smokers. (A huge deal for me) Excellent appointments in the room including a mini fridge, hairdryer, coffee maker and everything else some more expensive places offer.
I’m only giving 4 stars because room 23 has a very large hole in the bathroom wall that needs repair and the toilet is not securely bolted to the floor.
Other than those repairs. The room and price was great.

It was quite nice of her to acknowledge my complaints and say she would speak with staff but more than presumptuous to ask for my repeat business. Also, she apologized for the hotel not exceeding my expectation. That sentence alone indicates that my whole message was lost because it’s clear that the hotel didn’t even MEET my expectations.
Her email was sent about 2 weeks ago and I replied thanking her for her acknowledgment and also asking for a refund. A week went by without any other response from Laurie so I sent another email 5 days. Still, I’ve received no response.

It’s 4am and I’m writing a review because I can’t sleep. Because this place sucks! It’s August and this place has no AC. Just a stand up fan. We are on the 2^nd floor and heat rises. Went out to a crappy dinner at the Café Waterfront (see review on that later), only to return to a hot motel room. Found thermostat and it was for heater only. Found the fan behind the bathroom door. Opened all the windows in the bathroom and there are no screens. Good thing we are on the 2^nd floor. Looks our room was a lot cleaner than the photos from other reviews. Agree the smokers are a problem when they smoke outside right in front of rooms with open windows because of no AC. Well this Quality Inn is low on quality. I would at least expect the basics for $ 177 a night! Breakfast should be interesting tomorrow morning.

On the cons this place is dirty, carpet filthy, room dirty, no ac, exterior filthy. The road noise was pretty loud. Also they still allow smoking in some rooms and it came through to our non smoking room. I stayed because I am traveling with my dogs, doesn’t mean I want a dirty room. Expensive at 200+ for the condition too but after 10 hours on the road it was the best option. On the positive staff was very helpful and bed comfortable but I would not stay again.

This place is filthy and disgusting. I can’t believe any hotel chain would put there name on such a terrible place. No a/​c fingernails on the carpet, hairs in the shower, spots on the carpet, piles of dust, 3 channels on the tv just the worlds worst hotel. It should be nominated for one of the worst in America.

Good hot breakfast! Better than so many other hotels of it’s league. Spacious and decent rooms also had a microwave (not mentioned in their website) which helps us a great deal as we carry ready to eat meals which need reheating. The person at the front desk was friendly. Overall a great hotel for the price. Definitely staying with this chain when looking for economical accommodation.

Nightmare! Shady owners.
We were overbilled 3 times by these people. First, the second night of our stay and we asked them to refund us. The owners son, Will made excuses that it was me pushing the button twice when making my reservation and then booking.com’s fault… He finally did give us a refund but it all seemed shady.
2 days later while we were on the road home, we checked our account and we had 6 overdrafts in our acct. and found out they had again billed us for 2 nights and then again for 1 night. We had to finally ask Choice hotels to help us get our refund because we got no results from them, We still have not gotten any results getting our $ 164 back in overdraft fees… these people are thieves and their motel is pretty sketchy to boot. Don’t stay here!

This is one of the nicest MOTELS i have stayed at and have felt the most comfortable here. I’ve never found an issue at this place. Very personable workers at this location also.

It’s cheap-​ish, it’s a motel, not a hotel.
You’re paying for what you get. The room was comfortable, but could have used a deep cleaning. It’s an awesome location, and the front desk dude is a badass.
Keep your socks on, bring your iPad, and enjoy Eureka… it’s not as bad as it seems.

It was clean, the bed was okay, there was a funky smell (maybe covering up cigarettes?) in the room, breakfast was nice, kid at the front desk goes to the local college and he was very nice. Having to pay for your breakfast with a coupon was weird.

We stayed here on a Saturday night for a weekend trip to Eureka to see the redwoods.
They had some great staff members and rooms were comfortable and clean, it was also quiet at night for a good nights sleep.
Location is great and near the Carson Mansion which is seems like the motel is modeled after, we also had breakfast at Samoa Cookhouse and lunch at Los Bagels!

Really nice place with big rooms and lots of great little restaurants close by. We stayed here for a night on a road trip and were absolutely happy with this motel.

Probably better to pass by this one. If I could add a picture you’d see why, but to explain our experience. We stopped on the way home from Oregon and asked the price for a KING room. The outside looked nice enough, nice cars in the parking lot (but small for a 4 door truck), pool etc. the clerk was visiting with what appeared to be a boyfriend or social time. She was pleasant enough, but is asked twice for a king room and she quoted price and stated the room was being cleaned and wouldn’t be ready for 20 mins. We decided to take it and go tour the area and get dinner. Upon returning to room 24 we found it to be a queen bed, smelled odd and what appeared to be a huge ugly stain in the bathroom carpet.
After dark there were a large number of homeless walking passed and congregating across the street. I was not very comfortable with my possessions being left in my car.
If you can by pass Eureka.

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. As we were driving down the west coast we decided to stop in Eureka. Our hotel room had a musty smell, the floor underneath was uneven, the windows didn’t even securely close and lock, the tv had no channel guide and the shower was a bright blue outdated shower with holes in the wall. We were so disappointed that we woke up early to leave early. When stopping at breakfast at 7 they were already out of coffee and most breakfast. We will not stay nor recommend this hotel to anyone.

Oh my god the noise. All doors and windows closed and still the noise was very loud. I knew we’d never sleep with the noise from the traffic so we got out of there. The traffic noise is incredibly loud.

Clean rooms and great service. No frills but a good night’s rest in a decent part of Eureka. Pet friendly and wheelchair accessible. Refrigerator and microwave included! Book early if planning for Humbolt graduations!

You can’t really go wrong here.
July 2013. I was in room 55, with two doubles and a big walk in shower with a seat. The room was well decorated, and clean. There was a microwave and a coffee maker (with coffee) and a nice 32in flat screen TV. They had really decent pillows, which are subjective I know, but they give 3, so that’s nice if you like more support. We got lots of towels. The room also had a little desk, and a table, there was spacious for two.
The wifi worked fine, both for the computer and my phone. Not slow, and easy to log into.
The vanity area has a door to close, as does the toilet shower area, so if you are sharing a room with someone, it’s like having a private dressing and bath area! It was a nice configuration! There was an iron in there. The space beneath the vanity was all open, which was a nice place to stash luggage out of the way.
The staff were nice, especially the housekeeping and check-​in clerks. The breakfast was more than I expected. Scrambled eggs with sausage (self-​serve), even hard boiled eggs, yogurt, 4 kinds of dry cereal, hot cereal, some fruit, a selection of individually packaged pastries, juice, teas, and of course coffee. The coffee was terrible but there is a Dutch Bros. (awesome) half a block away across the laundromat parking lot. The coffee and tea is available 24 hours, the breakfast room seats about 20, café style, with the news on a wall mounted flat screen. There’s an ice machine and a soda machine.
I found it odd to read reviews that complained about «scuzzy people walking around». It’s like they’ve never been to Humboldt county. I have family there, so I’ve been up there several times a year for the past 40 years, and there has always been a scuzzy contest going on — these people are harmless and not at all threatening. I’m female and went for a walk after 10pm… not an issue. most of the «scuzzy» people are walking here or there during the day — it’s a common part of the scenery and certainly nothing you can escape when visiting the area.
The Carson Mansion is half a block away, and the top of it can be seen above the trees from the 3^rd street parking lot. These are very, very small blocks, BTW. Small-​town blocks, not city blocks.
This is a pet friendly hotel, and my only complaint would be that they use a re-​odorizing product which is like what they use in care homes. It smells better than old-​dog smell, but it’s just as strong. The rooms need to be aired out a bit more after re-​odorizing. Our second night was much better than the first. Room 55 was rather warm without heat, and we had to sleep with the window open. You can hear cars, but it’s within tolerable levels. It’s a small town, not a lot of traffic, and none to speak of at night.
There were lots of people there with dogs, and I like dogs so it wasn’t a problem. I believe that it was $ 10 per pet, per night.
I would (and will) stay there again. I’d rather stay somewhere much nicer, but there’s not a lot of choices in Eureka, and even so, this room was nice enough, and the staff was lovely, and the extensive breakfast options were a nice touch. I am happy that my usual place had no vacancy and I had to stay here — I will stay here from now on.

I guess the quality of your stay depends a lot on what room you get. This was our fourth stay in ten years and unfortunately, not nearly as good as two years ago when we were in a «newer» section of the property.
This time, we reserved for one night and got what appeared to be a handicapped accessible room on the first floor of the «old» building. We presumed «accessible» because instead of a bath, we got a bathtub sized shower with a low ledge for easy entry. That wasn’t so bad since we usually take showers anyway but there was a large tear in the «see-​through» portion of the shower curtain.
Then we discovered that the toilet flapper probably had a leak because every fifteen to twenty minute, more water would be let into the reserve tank. There various cracks and gaps here and there on the walls and baseboards and there was a smell of mildew in the room.
The bed itself was reasonably comfortable but this room definitely in need of a make-​over.
The breakfast room was clean and the food decent. Scrambled eggs, hard-​boiled eggs, sausage, yogurt, instant oatmeal, cereal, coffee, orange and apple juices and milk were offered.

We will not stay here again.
The hot tub was luke warm (to be kind), the jetted tub in our room (which I wanted to use because the hot tub wasn’t hot) did not hold water, there were people lingering on the nearby street corner at all hours of the night and directly outside our ground-​floor room we had two men sitting in their cars for hours (we still don’t know what they were all up to), the room had lots of street noise, there was no air conditioning (it was a hot weekend and the floor fan in the closet barely helped us through the night), and our non-​smoking room was directly next to a room of smokers (in a non-​smoking room) that stood outside their door while they chain smoked.
