Specialties

Origin Design Lab is a sewing lounge and sewing and craft supply center for textile artists, designers and makers, both professional and hobbyist. It is a place where you can learn how to sew, embroider, felt, screen print, dye fabrics, or create one’s own craft business. ODL is a cooperative of makers, where we strive to provide an environment that encourages creative community through sharing sewing machines, tools, space, and experiences with one another.

We offer space to rent by the hour, month or membership where individuals can work on a project of their choice while receiving instruction in a small group setting.

We provide a consignment boutique and retail space that showcases the creations of our members and independent designers as well as providing an eclectic selection of crafting tools, sewing machines, vintage buttons, and supplies to assist makers in their creative endeavors.

Established in 2010.

The Evolution of Origin Design Lab

Origin Design Lab was originally founded by Andrea Baker and Jodi Lee in December of 2010. They both had a vision to bring makers in Humboldt County together to share their experience, inspiration, and to keep individuals from having to reinvent the wheel with their own creative endeavors.

Born into the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Jodi Lee spent her childhood summers in North Dakota surrounded by the creative process of Native American beadwork with her cousins, aunts, and grandmother. Jodi has always had a sewing room of some sort since she was young. She used money from her first job to buy a sewing machine, a Sears Kenmore. She started making fabric wallets and this and thats. She took those creations to craft fairs and flea markets.

Her passion for creating has stayed with her as she found her way to the beautiful mountains of Humboldt County, California. This remote area in the Nort
