Hertz Rent A Car

Very hard to get a hold of! I understand this location is probably pretty busy, however the majority of the time I attempt to call I get a busy tone. You would think there would be a call waiting option or something. They have got to lose a lot of business with this occurring. I did eventually get through over attempting to call over a period of 30 minutes: The rep who answer the phone answered pleasantly then put me on an immediate hold… While most businesses have some sort of music or hold advertisement, while on hold with this location it’s complete silence. I held for about 5 or so minutes and when I was about to hang up, thinking I was disconnected or hung up on, the rep came back. I just wanted to rent a car and return to San Diego. Now this was around the holidays, so I expected prices to be higher than usual, but when I was quoted $ 500/​day I was SHOCKED to say the least. I then verified the price again and she said $ 500/​day whether I had it for 1 day or 3 days. This sounds like MAJOR GOUGING – Hertz takes advantage of the situation!

Truly a most terrible experience. Reserved a compact car online for $ 150, was sent confirmation and planned to pick up the vehicle the same day. A few hours later we received a voicemail telling us that there is a glitch in the system and that the price we were charged for the rental car was now $ 450 and that our reservation had to be canceled. Every other rental agency was booked out until after Thanksgiving and since we had to have a car to get to San Francisco that evening we were forced to deal with Hertz. The woman at the front counter straight up told us that because they were the only agency within 200 miles with an available vehicle that the prices had been inflated and that she WOULD NOT let any one way rental to San Francisco go for less than $ 450. She made zero apologies and said that at the bottom of our receipt (for the reservation she’d canceled) it said «prices subject to change». Needless to say, we paid the $ 450 because we don’t care to hitchhike. Will reserve a rental car months in advance from a different company in the future…

When picking up my car there was only one person working the counter. We were in line for 45+ minutes. We had ordered a SUV and when we finally got to our car it was not even cleaned. We rented a bigger car for our part of five to comfortably travel, but in our car there was no way more than two people could fit. We even had trouble with our luggage fitting in the back.

STAY AWAY if you care about your safety!
Here is our recent story:
We were given a mid-​sized Chevy Cruze which died on us after only several days out of a 10 day trip to Oregon. While waiting forever for the AAA guy for a jump, we checked the Internet and learned that the 2013 Cruze is well-​known for engine trouble and for not starting.
So why did Herz give us this lemon?
Then, the Herz telephone customer service was virtually useless. We needed to get a new car (we didn’t trust that this one would last). The agent promised that one would be held for us at the tiny, inconveniently located North Bend Airport.
When we finally reached there, the Herz agent was rude and flippant and said he probably did not have a car for us– that he had not heard from customer service about our need! We were so upset and desperate. Then he came up with a car– but a tiny one. We had no choice but to take this one.
When he returned it one week later in Portland they only gave us a $ 50 credit even though we had been downgraded to this junky small car through no fault of our own.
BTW, the 2013 Chevy Cruise was also recalled in 2014 for faulty dangerous airbags made by Takata!
Herz– YOU SUCK!
You provide dangerous cars!

Regarding the airport location:
If I could rate this location less than 1 star, I would. The guy that is always there, Carl, is a terrible representation of this company. Not only does he have a bad disposition and look like a slob but he’s rude to customers, spews incorrect information, and lacks in customer service skills. His phone etiquette is terrible, he does the minimal work required by his position, and has told several people that he’s been with Hertz so long, they’ll never get rid of him because he has ‘pull’. This is truly one employee who should be fired or seriously re-​trained. I will never, ever rent from this Hertz location again and I have passed along my negative experience to all my friends and co-​workers.

I’m a Hertz Gold Member and reserved my car online. When I went to pick it up, I was not given any explanation of charges, verbally or even a printed out receipt. I was unknowingly given a more expensive car than I had reserved, and charged $ 25 extra per day for it, again, not told to me when I picked up the car. When the car was returned, the guy at the desk, Jake, basically said there was nothing he could do about it, and to call Hertz if we wanted to. I called the Billing dept at Hertz and got yelled at by the lady I spoke to, who told me to «take responsibility for this.» I stayed courteous throughout the whole call because I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt that she’s not a mean person; I really hope Hertz records their phone conversations. She then gave me the number for the Hertz location where I picked up the car and told me to talk to the manager, and when I called, it turns out that particular manager hasn’t worked for Hertz for years. I had to call for three consecutive days, leaving a message & callback number every time (no one ever called me back), until a manager finally picked up the phone. The manager, Jessie, said she believed Jake when he said he gave me a verbal explanation of charges, even though she did confirm with him that I was never presented with a paper printout of the charges when I picked up the keys. She decided not to believe me, and I got the feeling that even if she did believe me, she wouldn’t have done anything about it.

I have to say that never before have I had such problems with a rent-​a-​car place. There was a miscommunication with staff and payments received, as I paid cash and the hold (supposed hold on my credit card would be taken off.) I paid cash and went home thinking everything was good, except for the extra charge for cleaning, mind you I cleaned before the car was picked up, spending 8 $ at a car was and vaccuming. Long behold 3 days later my credit card was charged again, so I was charged twice. I informed the employee of what happened and she proceeded to tell me «that could never happen a customer getting charged twice,» that there was a problem with the bank. I went to the bank and the manager at bank had to call Hertz and speak with them, as my word was not credible. The bank manager reassured Hertz that I had indeed been charged twice. I then went back to Hertz, only to find out that nothing could be done that day, and since it was Thursday and the weekend was around the corner they really couldn’t help me. The Hertz employee states, «I feel bad» well I do too. Overhearing another employee joking with a another client on a phone about taking his credit card number shopping. I was then really angry, because my money had been taken and this employee has the nerve to joke about STEALING money from another customer. This situation had scam written all over it. This place should be shut down. I did call coporate and fax all my information to them, all reciepts and documents regarding being billed twice for a week rental. I hope this matter get resolved soon.

The lady that works at the desk is super sweet and nice. I had a problem with the previous rental car and i returned it there. With out many questions asked she upgraded me to a far nicer car at the same price!
