The Duck Store

There is something that bothers me every time I walk into this place, and that is that the focus right from when you walk in the front door is on Ducks merchandise: jackets, hats, sweatshirts etc. I understand that that sort of thing makes a lot of money, but it really rubs me the wrong way when the campus bookstore doesn’t put the focus on the books, which are upstairs.
Sure there are pluses: they have a great selection of art supplies, school supplies, books (downstairs and upstairs, respectively), and they have a little mini-​mart area with snacks and coffee on the main floor, which is convenient. But I still can’t help but get a little frustrated that so much focus is put on apparel and souvenirs.
Also not too happy with the used textbooks and the buyback. I bought a used textbook for a class and was offered the chance to rent it or buy it. I asked how much it was to rent the book and it was only $ 10 less than buying it. Not exactly a deal, especially considering how expensive textbooks are (and I know that the price of textbooks isn’t necessarily their fault). BUT, the used texts are often in rough condition, I have several that had highlighting and pen-​marks/​notes all through them which made them difficult to read. I don’t think that those are the kinds of books that should be sold back, and if they are they should be marked down considerably more than they are.
Lastly, I wasn’t happy with the buyback experience that I had. I had to buy an iClicker for one of my classes, which is a completely useless thing outside of the classroom. Since I am done with coursework what else am I going to do with the thing other than sell it back. I kept the original box, the packaging, instructions and the actual iClicker was in perfect condition when I brought it back. Everything looked so good that when I sold it back the woman behind the counter asked me if I even used it at all. I said I did and that I wanted to sell it back. I paid $ 60 for it (if I am remembering correctly) and I got back I think $ 10. My numbers might not be exactly right, but proportionally that is what it amounted to. Definitely not a good deal.
Sure, go in there and get your books if you have to (but you’re better off checking Smith Family down the street first) and stop in and get your parents some ducks stuff, but other than that don’t bother. Avoid it if you can.

Great spot to grab all of your duck wear. Very nice staff. Good quality Nike gear. Not super cheap but good stuff and selection.

I thought this store was pretty fun to browse, even as a non-​Duck. My mom is a huge Donald Duck fan — and I also picked up other Duck gear like a hat — so this ended up being a great stop for vacation gifts!
I think the most notable thing that I liked about this store was the cheap t-​shirt selection (again, this is from the viewpoint of someone who did *not* attend the University of Oregon and did not care about the textbooks-​portion of the store).
During my visit, I found this bright yellow Ducks shirt that was only $ 10. I then purchased two — one for me (which I later proudly wore to a Unilocal event) and one for my mom (which she cooed over in person).
Fun, quick stop!
Also, I suppose this is a good college store if you are in college, too.

Staff is very nice, but it is extremely overpriced and ultimately an extension of the University, aimed to make as much money from the students as possible.

The male workers very rude to my family that were shopping. They are from here, we are native Oregonians and the employees were unprofessional and made negative comments to my sister and niece because they live out of state. They were unaware the store was closing and made to feel uncomfortable. Really? Show some respect! Act professional!

Don’t buy their used textbooks. They purposely sell you books that aren’t in a condition they will buy back. NEVER buying textbooks here again.
Service was incompetent and manager was rude. Manager tried to tell me I didn’t buy the book here, too, when the duck store is the only place I had gotten textbooks before. He then stopped that argument when I laughed sayin I could pull up my credit card statement, as he was probably hoping I paid in cash before.
Absolutely pathetic.
That being said, don’t ever rent a book from them either, or if need be, thoroughly check you book and refuse anything not close to perfect condition.
You can find cheaper textbooks elsewhere also.

The people in this store are so kind! I was stranded here during the snow storm 12÷6÷2013. I had no way of getting home. Two of the workers from the duck store gave me a ride home. I am forever grateful! Thank you, thank you, thank you. :)

This University Store is located within the 13^th Avenue «Campus Town» area rather than the expected Student Union address (at least in my world). My Son and I stopped here after Lunch a few Saturdays ago and after our tour of the University of Oregon Campus. If you’re into Duck Swag, you have 3 fully stocked floors to choose from, plus a technology alcove. Most of the books are upstairs, the branded goods are on the main floor, and the art/​stationary can be found below. They have a great selection and friendly folks to match. I picked up a Oregon folder for him and a Duck Dad coin for what I hope is a bright college future for my Son. :)

So many things I’ve not been able to find elsewhere in town that I’ve found here. Obscure pen refills, books at the last minute for a holiday gift, coloured papers. A true addition to the town, despite being right on campus. Thank you for everything!

This is THE Duck store. A must-​stop for any UO fans on the way through Eugene. It’s also, of course, the official UP bookstore, but I only go here for one thing — Duck Swag. And you know what? They have a pretty baller selection of swag in green, gold, black, silver, and any of the other myriad of colors that the UO has unofficially adopted.
But you know, for all the mountainous piles of gear they have here, they don’t have a great selection of sizes. Most of the stuff I found myself wanting was only available in smaller sizes (S or M) and excessively large sizes (XXL and beyond). Not much in the L/​XL range. And my most recent visit was before school started — so before it got hit hard by incoming students. It could be that this just happened to be the case with the styles I wanted, but damn. I know a lot of folks are L and XL and we’re willing to pay the trumped-​up prices for things with our beloved O emblazoned upon them.
Aside from the sizing issues, the staff here is friendly and helpful. There are lots of sundries available. And books? Well, this is where you go to get them.

We are big duck fans from Redding California. We have hit the Duck Store in Portland. But we wanted to go to the one on campus. I thought it was hard to find — but I’m horrible with directions and reading maps. But once we found it — parking was tough — but we found a spot at a meter — but were bummed about the short time it gave us. We were going to move — when along came a really nice meter reader — and she said that she would let us slide and give us more time — since we were going to leave some money in Eugene — especially at the Duck Store. Awesome. She was only going to let us park for a full hour instead of 45 minutes — but we were out in 40.
We got more shirts — and more car decals. And my son who is only 10 — we ended up downstairs for he could use the restroom — and there all new and shiny were U of O binders and folders — he’s only going into 5^th grade but we had to get U of O gear for next year. He said — no one else will be at school with these — that’s very true.
Everyone was extremely helpful and so nice — I’m sure we missed a lot just being on the main floor and the lower level. But no worries we will be back for sure.

You know what’s odd? Considering the connection Steve Prefontaine and Bill Bowerman have to the University of Oregon, you’d think that their official store would have a little more in the way of Pre and Bowerman swag. I mean, at least more than overpriced ($ 25) screen-​printed cotton shirts. No official Nike Pre/​Bowerman gear to be found here.
That said, it appears to be a more than adequate college bookstore. I wouldn’t know, as I donated most of my earnings to another branch of the Oregon University System. Still, like it is with most official college bookstores, you’re probably better off heading off-​campus. At least that way you can avoid the utterly ridiculous back-​in parking spaces along 13^th Avenue.

Right when you walk in you see O’s and Ducks all over the place.
From wall to wall and shelf to shelf you have an insane amount of duck things left and right.
Tons and tons of merchandise for purchase.
The staff is very helpful and constantly restocking or adjusting items for display. They are always willing to help and point you in the right direction for what you want. I spent over an hour in there just looking at everything wanting to buy the whole store!
If you love supporting your favorite Duck’s team, then this is the place you have to come to.

Great for buying Duck gear, souvenirs and gifts. This is also a nice place to stop for a snack or cup of coffee in between class. They also continually have book sales right at the front doors, and I’ve picked up many a cheap, good book from there. This place is a true campus icon.
As a real bookstore it sucks though. It (usually) has the books assigned to your classes but the remained of the selection is terrible. Skip the Duck Store and go to Smith Family instead. Check them out for your course books too.

I worked in the Duck Store when I was a grad student and it was a fun, friendly place to be. The young and old folks who work there are happy, friendly, and helpful people who care about their stuff and every customer who enters through the glass doors.
Go upstairs for book books and journals. Browse the main floor for sportswear, gifts, coffee, food, and digital awesomeness. Go downstairs for art supplies. It’s really a store for everyone. Every time I visit Eugene, I stop by.

Just as a previous reviewer mentioned, the textbooks here are way too expensive. You’re much better off ordering used on Amazon.
If you’re here though to check on the current on-​sale merchandise, you won’t be disappointed. They have some steals on t-​shirts and sweaters from time to time that you simply don’t want to miss.

If you want to buy something that says Oregon Ducks on it — shirts, hats, golf balls, shot glasses, baby shoes, helmets, bobbleheads, stickers — this is the place to go. It’s fun to wander around and see what new item they’ve printed the logo on, and it’s hard to turn any of them down if you’re a fan. Everything’s right around what it should cost, which means you’re not going to save any money shopping here instead of online, but it is fun to be there in person to see the ridiculous number of color options with jerseys. This area of the store could easily get 5 stars in my book.
But there’s more to the Duck Store than memerobilia. Upstairs is the book store, where they’ve got a decent selection of books for sale in addition to text books… but nothing is cheap. Textbooks are ridiculously overpriced, although that is probably on the textbook company, so I can’t be too upset with them. What I will complain about though is that most of the other books in the store are sold at full price, something that you usually only see at airport bookstores. I always assumed books were priced high so that stores could bring the prices down and look like the good guy… but they don’t seem to do this, making it very difficult to fork over $ 26 for that new novel. For both textbooks and recreational reading, just go down the street to Smith Family Bookstore and save some money buying used books. Book store: 3 stars.
Downstairs is an art supply store. I never took any art classes (and can’t draw) so I only went down there when in need of binders or notebooks. Seemed like a well supplied store, but I’m no expert. 4 stars.
Bottom line: If you’re a Duck fan or are visiting from out of town, this is the place to go.

and buy them there and then resell them at the Duck store at t he end of the term. The student and staff workers are very friendly and helpful especially during the first week fo the term. I like how they separate the digital duck, clothing, and arts/​school supplies. It makes looking for things way easier.
Location is amazing: right at the edge of campus but the traffic is kind of scary. Students always walk without looking while cars try to avoid not hitting them. Its kind of dangerous intersection and they should add stoplights or something to prevent an accident from happening
