I’m a engineering by trade, and I still love to get some of my gadgets at RS. Even though they don’t carry as much as they use to over ten years ago, they’re more targeted with selling mobile contracts these days. However, as long as they carry the basics, RS will still be a good place to pick up a few gems.

I have stopped here a few times in recent months for some tech components that I needed immediately. Unfortunately I have come away disappointed each time. There was a time in the past when Radio Shack was a great source of specialty tech items, connectors, and especially electronic components(resistors, fusses, batteries, etc). It is still great for connectors and electronic components but don’t expect the staff to be of any use. They constantly try to up sell me, even on things I am neither looking for nor interested in. When I cam here to try to find a pre-paid phone option the employee told me this was a waste of time and I needed to get a monthly plan if I was going to use the phone more than a couple times a month. He also told me the phones I had would not work on any of the pre-paid plans, I am still using one of these phones today on a pre-paid plan. Sadly I think this attitude from their employees is part of the reason Radio Shack is in such decline.
