Porky’s Palace

This note is just to inform any potential customers that Porky’s is no longer a restaurant. Half of the building is now vacated, with the bar still operating. The only food they offer is from the fryer. I had to leave a star rating to post this, but since I didn’t eat here, it’s not reflective of any real experience except the disappointment of not having barbecue for dinner.

Today was the first, and likely last, time I’ve eaten food from Porky’s Palace. We placed an order through Pony Express, and when the food arrived about 1.5 hours later, it was mostly wrong.
First they called to inform us they didn’t have jalapeño tots, so we opted for onion rings — big mistake. We got very few onion rings, and to top it off they were in a sad soggy state.
Next, we ordered our burgers well done (it’s an option when ordering — rare — medium — well), and they arrived almost still mooing. To top off the experience, I paid extra for cheese on the burgers, and neither burger had cheese when we received them.
Avoid this place like the plague, there is nothing offered here that you can’t get elsewhere (and better).
I also agree with the other reviewer — that glowing 5 star review must be a company shill, or a friend of the family, because it is far from accurate.

I can’t help but believe that the latest long-​winded 5 star review attesting to the new owners’ quality was written by… the owners, or their friends. The meat is good, I’d say it is «good bbq’d meat». But the side dishes were terrible, onion rings and fries were soggy. The sandwich buns are the cheap plain bland kind. For $ 8+ a sandwich, there is much better in town.
My suggestion to the new owners — increase quality of everything.
Also, «Porky’s Piglet» is running a Unilocal deal. Problem is, I guess this was a food cart affiliated with your restaurant that is now defunct? Since you renamed your restaurant to «Porky’s Piglet Café» this is extremely confusing. I’d contact the previous owner of the food cart and have her take down the website, facebook page, and Unilocal entry, or request Unilocal take it down.

Our go to breakfast place with some of the best bacon in Eugene. The prime rib breakfast on Saturday is phenomenal. This is not a place for yuppies though sorry.

The new owners of Porky’s should be proud.
We ordered takeout through Pony Express (ponyexpressdelivery-​dot-​com), so we can’t attest to ambiance or service, but let me tell you: all of us agreed that was some of the best barbecue we’ve ever had. The only slight question (I’d hardly call it a «complaint») is that the brisket was a bit bland, but that’s possibly because I use a rub in my own barbecue (my wife says I use too much, in fact), but the smoke «ring,» juiciness and unbelievable tenderness were all there.
Their barbecue doesn’t come basted in barbecue sauce, which we all really appreciated. (That’s how «real» barbecue should come anyway, not coated with a thick layer of some sticky, sickly-​sweet candy to disguise any potential faults.)
The ribs (we ordered a half-​rack and immediately regretted not getting a full rack) were hands-​down some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Fallin’ off the bone tender, but not chewy, stringy or chalky in the least. The «bark» on the ribs and especially the brisket was «to die for.» There is simply no other way to get that than smoking top-​quality meat for a long time over hardwood — «low and slow,» as they say — but not for too long.
The side dishes were simply excellent. The mashed potatoes were creamy, with just enough tiny chunks of potato to let you know they were truly homemade, not whipped up in a food processor or regurgitated from instant mashed potato flakes. You HAVE to try their homemade onion rings. I love onion rings, and they have the art down. (I could never figure out how to get the batter to stick to the onion, so you don’t take a bite and have molten onion flop out of the fried «tube» and leave burn marks on your chin. Not one single one of their onion rings did that. I must find their secret.)
Believe me, the sheer quality of the food and skill in preparing it, really convinced us that the new owners are serious about their food.
This is going to be one of our «once a week» restaurants. We love barbecue, and Porky’s has the best we’ve found in Eugene.

I live very close to this place… It is very… Blah. Not impressed. The surroundings are not good. Very out dated place… kinda gross.
Food is average at best. I want to like this place, but I can’t. Very much a biker bar. «hick» would be a good way to describe it.
It was under new owners so I thought I’d give it another try… not good.
I feel bad… It’s local owners and they said some of the staff teamed up and bought it together.
If you go, go to support the local aspect. Or go for a beer (kinda hard to mess that up).
It’s not going to make you sick. They’re nice enough… but don’t expect a wow factor.

So nasty. The food was basically inedible. I won’t even go into details. There is no need. Our waitress was hammered drunk and kept cussing (like «f word» cussing) and forgetting stuff we ordered. She obviously was spending her away time at the bar that shares the location. Worst part of it all? H&H BBQ is like a block away.

So I will start this review by saying that Porky’s Palace is under new management… Not being there before this change, I can’t compare. The bartenders are pretty friendly. The place is a dive, but I like it that way. Everyone pretty much leaves you alone. There is always free pool (but only one table) and lots of nights have Karaōke. The drinks are a decent price, and the food is great bar food. I enjoy the sliders or the cheese steak. Don’t go here if you are looking for something fancy. Go here if you want to belly up to the bar with some old timers (and a few young folks), and enjoy a quiet drink with the occasional testosterone and booze fueled yelling match (usually entertaining).

Great sign and the new name pulled me in for lunch. (Who could resist a pink neon pig and a name like that??) Disaster — all I salvaged from the meal was my first one star review. Won’t even bother with the details. Bad food. Really bad. And not even a «good dive vibe». But hey — I still like their sign when I drive by.

In a moment of weakness in the wee hours of the morning I gazed leftwards and there it was in all it’s pink earned piggy splendor. A mid 80’s cargo van stuffed full of cooking equipment; with no shortage of BBQ goodness.
We got here at midnight so at that juncture I have to believe the food quality was a bit timed out. It was a phenomenal cut of meat, hog meat infused with delicious pieces of bacon.
The beef battered fries were absolutely amazing-​add that to the ranch I put on my ranch and we’re BOSS status.

Both my wife and I ordered steak dinners. It took 30 minutes during which we never saw the waitress and my coffee was not refilled. Speaking of the waitress, she was a young one with an attitude. Not friendly at all. The people came in, ordered, were served and finished paying before our order was served. They lost us as customers 6 months ago after a once or twice week experience of getting meals there during which this waitress gets worse and worse. Who’s kid is she, the owners? Better food and service is at Countrytime on River Rd, not this bar and dive on 99.

This was literally one of the worst meals I have ever had.
I ordered the chicken fried steak. This came covered in a gelatinous country gravy. It also came with toast, hashbrowns and eggs. I ordered my eggs over medium and they came out EXTREMELY over easy; I would have sent them back had it not taken nearly an hour to get my food in the first place.
My boyfriend ordered brisket. He said it was the worst brisket he has had in his life. It was 75% fat. The potatoes tasted like mashed potatoes you’d get from an elementary school cafeteria.
After the meal, my body told me instantly that it would make me regret eating at that place. Needless to say, Porky’s Palace got the only 25 dollars it will ever get from me.

A fantastic breakfast, massive portions. If your afraid of some gravy don’t even bother, sissy.

I created a Unilocal account just to warn people just how terrible this place is. I ordered a plate with several different BBQ meats. None of them were even close to being edible. After my first bite my initial thought was they must have had this sitting out all day long. I’m truly impressed that a restaurant would even serve somthing so foul. The entire meal went into the garbage.

OK, so I’ve driven by this place a million times, but never even thought of stopping by. Just looks very seedy from the exterior. Well, I was in the area & was wanting breakfast, so I stopped by.
Walking in it smelled like mildew & I just about walked out. I went ahead & sat down & ordered the country fried steak breakfast. While waiting for my food a had to swish away numerous flies, very annoying & gross. Food arrived & actually looked pretty good. Taste, texture was a different story. Not the worst country fried steak, but ranked right up there. Greasy & tough. Real tough & chewy. Hashbrowns & eggs were good, but hard to screw that up.
The service was good & the waitress did a great job of keeping my coffee filled. However, the smell of the place, the flies buzzing all around, & the chewy nasty chicken fried steak, earn this place a whopping 1 star. I do nit recommend this place & I definitely won’t be coming back.

Had their french dip sandwich. Was very hungry and expectations were high since I loved their open faced brisket plate last week. It was my second time there. It was a to go order. I was very upset with the sandwich. It was two buns with left over scraps oily beyond reason and half of it burnt. It was crunchy with every bite… I’m pretty upset that a restaurant would treat customers that way… maybe the counter lady sneezing and wiping her nose with the back of her hand should have been a clue… though the first time was good, this 2^nd time made me sick… literally, my stomach isn’t too happy right now… beware… price is cheaper than other places, but found out there’s a good reason for it.
Will not be going back at all.

This was the –worst– food I have ever had. We were visiting Eugene and were tired and hungry by the time we got to the motel. We ordered off of a delivery menu.
I got a ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and salad. The steak was greasy, tough and grey. Absolutely terrible. The mashed potatoes were glue-​y and the gravy just tasted like salt and fat. The «salad» was a pile of chunks of iceberg lettuce with tons of gloppy dressing and 3 crutons. That was it.
My husband got the BBQ sampler. The ribs were disgusting. When you first tasted them they tasted like cardboard but the longer they sat in your mouth the more their flavor came out and… let’s just say it was not the flavor of something that anyone would voluntarily put in their mouth. The pulled pork was bland and salty and mushy. The brisket was bland, salty and fatty. The last two pieces were only palatable after being drenched in BBQ sauce. However, the serving size of sauce provided meant that you could only drench a small portion of the food.
If we had gone into the restaurant rather than ordered delivery to our room I 100% would have sent the food back and demanded a refund. As it is now, we will never go there again and have told everyone we know to avoid it as well.

Today, my wife and I were debating again what to do for lunch. So, during the customary «who chose last time debate» I googled for nearby «lunch». Porky’s was in the list. We have driven past the place a number of times, but other than a cool «Porky’s» sign with a pig on it, there is nothing remarkable about its appearance. It was easily out of sight out of mind.
The inside is dated. A remodel would not be out of order. Browsing I noticed the menu looked like it was made on a home computer circa 1988. We ordered even though our apprehension had grown quite a lot.
Before passing judgment — bring on the food.
I was there to eat after all.
As our meals were placed on the table my eyes began to thank me. The food looked absolutely delicious.
My brisket just fell apart and was cooked perfectly. I was disappointed to see my fries were the battered type. I do not like battered fries. However, I tasted one and had to change my rule. I do not like MOST battered fries — but these were great!!!
My wife had the pulled pork — all though I didn’t taste it — it looked even better than my sandwich. She substituted onion rings for her side and they looked just gorgeous. I stole one, and it was hands down one of the best onion rings I have ever had. Ranking up there with homemade beer battered onion rings.
The service was very friendly. However, we were the only customers in the place who the waitress did not know on a first name basis. But if our future visits are as good as this one, she will get to know us just as well.

Porky’s Palace used to be Our Place Bar. It now serves fairly good BBQ. Ordered through Pony Express and the food arrived warm.
The ribs were good, albeit a little dry, and the pulled pork sandwich shouldn’t be frowned on either. Average portion sizes for the meats.
The sides were a little on the lacking sides. They have potato salad and no other potato products (Mashed or Fried, fries are considered an appetizer not a side item) and the cole slaw was a mayonnaisey mess, and a little on the bland side.
Overall I would order again if Oklahoma Smokehouse was closed and it was a Monday, meaning Hole in the Wall was closed to. But more than likely I will get my BBQ elsewhere.
On the plus side they do have an entire breakfast menu, which I haven’t tried. That in itself warrants it another star above 2.
