Oldfield’s Appliance & Home Theater

I am beyond pleased with my appliance package from Oldfield’s! I shopped the «big box stores, including Sears» & felt more overwhelmed with each visit. Their info & recommendations conflicted with online customer reviews. I’ve been using my refrigerator, stovetop w/​downdraft, wall oven, microwave & dishwasher from Oldfields since November. AWESOME! I felt the salesman Bryan, really listened to my needs, Gave me accurate information & answered all follow-​up questions & concerns in a flash. The personal service and knowledgeable salesman made my major purchases stress free & rewarding.

I am waiting for a call from their VP since their manager refuses to refund me the installation fee for a hybrid hot water heater they sold me without ever discussing the 7 inches of extra space it needs nor the size of it. All the sales lady Helen was interested in was selling a 80 gallon tank. When I talked to the manager, she said it was my fault for not knowing these facts. Beware if you shop at Oldfield. Apparently their staff doesn’t know much about their products and you are stuck with paying the plumber to pick it up, and return it. If the VP provides good customer service, I’ll let you know.

Oldfield’s is the kind of place where you’re expected to haggle a little for a better price, or to package together multiple appliance purchases to get a better deal. This might work for some folks, but seems pretty outmoded for appliance retail. In the age of mover’s coupons, flash sales, online-​only coupon codes with free delivery, etc., a savvy customer will *always* be able to match or exceed any deal you’d get at Oldfield’s. The national chains (big box hardware and electronic stores, etc.) recognize this and have adapted to the market. Granted, those chains often mark up their merchandise prior to sales, but if you’re patient, it’s easy to see the patterns and quickly learn what the best possible price is on a given appliance. With Oldfield’s, you have to parse the BS and pressure from the sales staff (no doubt directing you to high-​profit margin items). Everyone shops differently, but for me, it did not take long to realize I wanted nothing to do with Oldfield’s business model.

Overpriced compared to sears, best buy and home Depot don’t recommend this store .nice people and customer service but high price and won’t price match if there not making money.

Audio department: Had an install scheduled for speakers in our home. When I found a better price elsewhere for some of the speakers, I told Oldfields I only wanted to have them install the surround sound portion of the home. They opted out of any business with me at that point. I guess they are an «all or nothing» kind of place. I’m sure if I would have originally just asked for the surround install, they would have been fine doing the work. There are plenty of businesses in town to do this same job. Check these guys off your list.

When I went into oldfields today I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for but the expertise of the staff was outstanding and Shawn (or Sean, I feel bad if I spelt his name wrong) was so helpful. From the moment I walked in he was kind and easy to talk to, he helped me find what I needed almost immediately! I highly recommend going to oldfields for any appliances or appliance needs you may have! The store is beautiful, has a great selection, and you can’t beat the customer service skills of their staff. Thank you guys for helping me out today! I’ll be back and hopefully my friends and family will be too!

We have bought several major appliances from Oldfield’s Appliance Center over the years and always had a great experience with their sales staff and, on the few occasions when we have needed service or repair work, excellent service and follow up there too.
Recently we bought a new washer & dryer and had some mechanical problems with the washer. Oldfield’s service department was very responsive and timely in making the repairs. Because the washer was just a few months old and needed several repairs we asked Oldfields to replace it with a new washer, which they did. And, they did this with a smile and a great attitude throughout.
We prefer to support local businesses when we can and we have always been pleased with Oldfield’s staff and service. This most recent experience further heightened our respect and appreciation for Oldfield’s.

The 5 stars are for Bryan and his dedication to customer service. We were impressed by his quick responses, sincerity and efforts to understand and to make right a serious breech of customer confidence. With today’s expenses, tight budgets, mfr’s cutting corners and cost at the expense of the customer, dwindling customer satisfaction and poor after-​sales support, is it any wonder brick & mortar stores are losing out to Internet sales? We prefer the human touch and are grateful when we can walk into a store and touch, see and feel the product in person.
One last note: most appliance sales people are on commission and usually a pecking order of who gets who (sometimes based solely on the customer’s shoes!). Perhaps our salesperson was just a bad fit for us. So in the future we will not hesitate to ask for a different sales person if this or a similar situation arises in the future.

The first salesperson who spoke to us was very nice and helpful. He found us exactly the right kind of stove we were looking for. The reason I am not giving more stars is because of the terrible man who «helped» load the stove into our truck. The man had apparently just been hired. Before putting the stove in our truck, he looked at me, then to my husband and said to him, «It’s going to be hard to get this down by yourself.» I found that to be incredibly sexist and small minded. He then told us he had put all the grills inside the broiler before they wrapped it in seran wrap even though the salesperson had told him to set them aside. Then, even though there were 2 other people standing 10 feet away, they asked my husband to help the ignorant young man load the stove.
PS: We were able to get the stove down from the truck and up our porch stairs just fine on our own.

The appliances are nice and based on my experience 2 of the salesmen were not. If this was any indication, I questioned how they would be on a warranty call. I think Keith S. Review nails it when he referred to his salesman experience. I think we may have had the same one. I very glad I did not go thru with the purchase.

Very unhappy. My top of the line Frigidare refrigerator, only 5 years old, quit working. The warranty expired last December. Oldfields and Frigidaire said they can’t work with me on the warranty. I have to wait a week for the part. $ 400 for parts, labor and frustration. Sorry Oldfields, I won’t be back.

You will get the best of everything — whether you need a new appliance, tutorials about appliances, or even service attention — through Bryan at Oldfields. He is responsive and enthusiastic — always. He makes Oldfields great. I have to say — if Bryan were to move to another company — I would only go where Bryan goes. Other salespeople there do not even seem to notice you’ve walked in. If it happens to be Bryan’s day off — find out when he’s working and come back when he’s there.

Not a good experience. My new refrigerator from their main store – not the damaged products – died completely 5 months after they installed it. Since they couldn’t offer me any service appointments except during my working hours, I bought a new refrigerator from another company. The person who installed that new fridge told me Oldfield’s should have let me know that it’s not a good idea to plug a 3-​pronged refrigerator into a 2-​prong outlet. I got no such warning. So, out the price of the old refrigerator, the new refrigerator. Have an appointment with an electrician. They were not helpful at all at Oldfield’s when I told them my refrigerator wasn’t working well.

Wow. Rather knocked over about the rudeness of the sales person in the store today. We were the only customers in the store; four or five sales folks sitting around doing, it looked like, very little. This guy seemed downright irritated that we were there and flat out said he couldn’t help us find what we wanted. In about 5 minutes, I found what we wanted online. We’re driving to Portland to buy a refrigerator, I guess–

I’ve been in Oldfield’s twice now. Both times to look at refrigerators. The first time was after I’d just bought a new house and I needed a new stainless steel fridge. No one ever came up to me in the store. I was there about 20 minutes and finally just left since there was no customer service. The second time, yesterday, was for a work appliance, again a fridge for our break room. We only had a budget of $ 500 and went to the location on Conger where they have the dented and scratched appliances. We found one for $ 549 and probably could have stretched our budget. But when we told the guy we had hoped to find something for under $ 500 he just said «Good Luck» and walked away.
I will never go to Oldfield’s again, whether personal with a decent budget, or work related…

I stopped in Oldfield’s to purchase a new washing machine and was greeted pleasantly enough. I had previously selected four models with the help of Consumer Reports (CR) and other review sites. I also knew Oldfield’s had them from their website. The salesman who greeted me showed me to the models. .. well, two of them.
I looked at a Whirlpool model, with a CR estimated price of $ 800. The in-​store price was $ 899.99, which surprised me. First, most places beat the estimates from CR. Second, the Oldfield’s website listed that same model for $ 720! I showed the printed web page with the price from their own site, and the salesman responded, «well, I don’t know where they got those prices.» We then looked at a Maytag, which was $ 1200 in store, about $ 100 more than the price listed on CR and $ 155 more than their own website. Again, the salesman offered no help with the discrepancy.
The salesman then pointed me to an Electrolux model. «This is the next model I would buy.» This is where the interaction got a little weird. He no longer seemed interested in what I wanted. And honestly, I was surprised that he would spend $ 2000 for his «next model.» This came across as pure salesmanship, in the car-​dealer sense. In addition, CR rated 34 models better than the best-​rated Electrolux, and the model he liked wasn’t even the best Electrolux. There were probably 50 or 60 models rated better.
BTW, CR rates models on their ability to actually clean, energy and water efficiency, and their noise and vibration, all things that salesmen would know nothing about other than product propaganda from manufacturers. Interestingly, tho, they posted CR ratings on some of their machines, but the salesman seemed surprised when I said, «oh, here you have the Consumer Reports reviews.»
I then asked about an LG. I was told that LGs are horrible because they break all the time. They, like the Samsung (my third choice) were apparently unreliable. Now I had looked at repair histories in CR, too, and LG and Samsung had the least major repairs, at 6% & 7%, respectively, of all brands from a survey of 92,000 readers. In contrast, Whirlpool and Maytag had 12% repair histories, and some were worse. He pointed out that CR did not offer good information. So I wonder, do I believe a salesman’s experience with *sales* to a maybe a few dozen people or the experience of 90,000 plus respondents to the CR survey? Tough choice.
I moved on to two other stores. Both had my top choice Whirlpool and Maytag models, and both stores were much, much cheaper. Home Depot had the Whirlpool at $ 720. That’s $ 180 cheaper than Oldfield’s. Lowe’s had it for $ 630! That’s $ 270 less than Oldfield’s! Lowe’s also had the Maytag, $ 1200 at Oldfield’s, for just $ 805, so I bought it. I saved nearly $ 400 and received free delivery and removal of my broken machine. I do not necessarily recommend those particular stores, but I simply want to point out that they, like probably many other stores, had much better prices (and more friendly salespeople).
So no, Oldfield’s is not an option. My first trip to Oldfield’s, back in 2002, was very good. This is the second trip since, and both the last two have been poor (at best). The experience with the sales staff was a bit creepy, and their prices were ridiculously high, 50% higher than the competition. I will no longer waste my time with Oldfield’s.

We’ve been using Oldfields for more than 10 years. Not frequent purchases, just the biggies like washer/​dryer, refrigerator, ovens and dishwashers. This week our «old» dishwasher of 5 years decided to stop working. So I went down to Oldfields to buy a new one. I settled on a nice unit and set up delivery.
The delivery was uneventful and we started using our shiny new dishwasher… for exactly one load before it stopped working completely. A quick call to my salesman and we had a replacement the same day! Now that is service. Home Depot and the other big box stores may be a little cheaper, but I highly doubt you’d get service there like you get at Oldfields.

We bought a stove, dishwasher and fridge 8 months ago. The sales guy was great. The delivery guy was so so. Had to finish peeling the plastic off after he’d supposedly already done it. Within a couple of months the door shelf on the fridge broke in half. After a few mis-​communications trying to get it fixed I talked with Bryan who was also the one who originally sold us our appliances. He got it taken care of that same day. I was so glad that he helped facilitate that. If you need an appliance, you should go see Bryan at Oldfield’s.

Their service department SUCKS! They incorrectly diagnosed a problem with our microwave, and then refused to refund the $ 75 fee for a tech visit. Don’t work with these guys, because unless you buy their extended warranty, they’ll send you out the door with a bad product and a «too bad, you’re out of luck» attitude.

Before you go purchase another electrical item, stop by this store room first. If you refused your dryer because it had a ding, they drop it off here.
It totally rocks price wise, and the selection changes all the time. As long as you don’t mind a minor imperfection, I say check this place out.
Several friends have gotten stainless steel appliances there, and I’ve gotten less expensive items.
